Gears of War 'Hidden Fronts' map pack free starting Sept. 3

Originally available in May for around $10, the Hidden Fronts map pack for Gears of War will be available for free starting Monday. This falls in line with statements made by Epic's Mark Rein earlier this year that they'll try to get content out for free eventually, but it is Microsoft's store they're working with and they do need to make money.

According to Microsoft, the map pack was already downloaded by a half-million people and has become the #1 piece of premium downloadable content on the marketplace. Thank gawd, we were afraid if could have been the odious Gears of War COG tag videos. The map pack will be free globally. At this point Gears of War has sold four million copies and, according to Microsoft, holds "the highest cumulative number of hours played by Xbox Live members." Let's see how long Gears of War can hold on to that title starting at the end of this month.

I've went almost a year without even trying this game! I wouldn't have to say this if they put in at least one hot chick in there. Watching nothing but a bunch of armored, sweaty guys just doesn't sound very appealing it me.

Well I guess is an incentive for the people out there that haven’t bought Gears of war yet or Didn't wanted to pay 800p back in May but if Epic really want players to keep playing Gears of war after Halo 3,Bioshock and Blue dragon here a free tip: Give us the 6 chapter.

Also C´mon it takes ages to get the seriously achievement, I rather play the Darkness which I did. Gears of war online achievements are a *Glitch really I don’t feel like playing the game for 90 days to get an achievement people cheated 5 months ago and a picture I could buy for 100p.

In my experience Gears of war has the problem that if you want the achievements the game turns into a job. First you must play in Ranked Matches which mean unless you and your pals are playing in the same game which requires coordination because you cant invite friends to ranked matches you are forced to play with the usual gang of xlive aholes, the kills you get in Annex doesn’t count, everyone playing in ranked matches are going for the sniper rifle, the explosive arc etc etc achievements.

Really Epic should change the achievements for the PC version kill 1,000 to get the seriously achievement so we can get over ranked match and play with my friends the way I like or make the kills you get in Normal matches and Annex count.

You don't *have* to get all of the achievements, you know.

True but I'm tired of "Time" achievements like the ones in Gears of War or PDZ. They aren't fun, they don’t require you to have skills, they don't make you play the game any different and they are just tedious not to mention that it feels like the developers put them there to torture the souls of the innocent.

I’m totally sick of those achievements, also that I like to complete games at 100% but those achievements aren’t worth it, put a lot of time in something only you give a damn. Really WTF?, Achievements suppose to be fun not tedious or painful.

Word of the Street,this is why profile glitches exist. I did it to my girlfriend's account and mine. She has maybe 800 total kills,but every achievement (including seriously and the annex ones)

Don't play into the developers BS,if you want the achievements get them by any means.

I think it got patched like a month ago, also I hear you needed to have the seriously achievement first or something.

There are people doing that on the internet for 800p but c´mon I'm not dying for them yet I would be very thankful if you told me how.

I got all my achievments the good ole fashion way. Yeah the "Serious" achievement was a pain but well worth it for me, and as for the peeps complaining about not being able to play with friend in ranked thats bs, you just have to get in a private chat and get in the same one. Very easy. Anyway you glitchers are losers. This game rocks and hopefully more people can try the new maps now because they are pretty bas ass.

The thing is that my friends suck at Gears of war,there is a guy that is always trying to get me into his ranked matches but we always lose,I get to score some points but...damn he is bad,he can't hit anything with the sniper

Also most of my friends are playing Halo 2 or not ranked matches,for some reason they dont like matched.
Is hard to get them to play in ranked.

I was going to play it tonight but damn Bioshock is so adictive also Gears of war online is kind of repetitive for some reason in ranked matches I always end playing the same 3 maps for the rest of the night.

Your right about it being a pain maybe in part 2 it will only require 5000 kills, lol! Because trust me we will see an acheievement like this in part 2 lol

The sad thing is that I'm going to buy the sequel,I loved the single player,I got all the single player achievements and most of the online achievements.

It was one of the best games I've ever played in single player,the online if it wasn't for the xlive community is better than Halo or at least more realistic.

You know I really hate time achievements especially because I have 1 hour to play per day.

IMO if Epic is going to add another seriously achievements for the sequel at least make annex and local matches count like The Darkness.

It was a b*tch when I got the 100 chainsaw kills and no achievement until I notice I got 30 of them in Local.

Yeah I usually only get to play for about an hour everyday. I have 3 kids lol or else I would be gaming way more.

Oh and Word on the street I would help you but, Im currently kinda retired from Gears lol since I got all the achievements on it. Im really into Bioshock too and Im trying to get all of those achievements but I do get into 2 or 3 Ranked matches every now and then just to get my Gears gore fix haha. Either way whats your gamertag and maybe we can get into some matches later on.
