Who the hell wants that big hunk of plastic in between their controller? Yet another stupid accessory I will never buy.

Wow, this isn't actually that bad of a deal after all. The headset cost's 20 bucks alone so it's like getting the pad for only $10.

Well usually headsets are around $20-30 by themselves so next time I break a headset I'll get this one...

I'm pretty sure it will work without the keypad. For example, some of the old xbox headsets work with 360.

I didn't realize people do excessive typing on their 360, considering you can send voice messages or get into a private chat.

The picture of the back is what I wanted to see, looks like my worries were unwarrented. It will not block my fingers anymore than the battery pack already does.

It's a handy litle gizmo but I'm not paying the money MS want for it.
It's just as quick to plug in the headset and send a voice message instead.

Does anyone know if this will do "hotkey" type stuff? I do private chat w my friends on live but sometimes i need to swap to the game chat channel to get a game goin in the lobby and such, and if MS made it so I can just hit a button on this to swap between chats I'd be immediately sold. Just one example, but does anyone have any info?
Posted: Sep 2nd 2007 6:09PM Anticrawl said
Yes you can do the hotkey stuff.

1. Can use any standard cellphone headset when the keyboard is attached (just like you can use a cellphone headset normally.)
2. The headset works without the keyboard, just like any normal cellphone head does.
3. Can connect and disconnect the keyboard as needed.
4. The keyboard is for people that put their Windows Messanger/MSN/Microsoft Messanger accounts on their 360 so that they can text message from on PCs/Cellphones/PDAs that uses Windows Messenger instead of AIM or Yahoo.

@ Anticrawl - Thanks for the reply man. You have any links or more details on that by any chance?

I wonder how this will affect the battery of the controller?
Posted: Sep 3rd 2007 12:33AM Anticrawl said
Well I know for a fact that you can use the control+M hotkey to open up the little see through chat menu while one the dashboard or in game without having to press the dashboard icon and from what I remember you can swap multiple conversations from that little window. I'll go look for a link I suppose in a bit.

In response to a question about msn and hotkeys on the chatpad there is a button for msn only, a specific key so I'd imagine that will be your solution to quick and effective messaging on your 360.

Cool idea, but I'd rather see MS clean up the chatting/texting/menu interface and reduce the amount of button pressing and 'Do you want to join the chat?'/'Do you want to send your message?' nonsense... It's already a clunky slow interface and the redundant menu questions have really gotten on my nerves. Too many steps to enter/exit a chat... Have you ever started talking only to realize you are still looking at a 'confirmation to join the chat' screen?

I play a lot of Forza 2, and I end up having to type in names for car tunes using the joystick all the time. I'd much rather use this keyboard. Sold!
