FarCry, Prince of Persia, Rabbids, Ghost Recon for free on PC
ShackNews leads us to free ad-supported PC games for this lazy holiday in the US. You'll be able to play full versions of FarCry, Raving Rabbids, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Ghost Recon, though you'll need a US Ubi.com account to install the games. We aren't aware if the ads are just in loading screens, or if you'll find empty McDonald's fry boxes washed up on FarCry's pristine shores. Here are the links:
- Far Cry full game
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
- Ghost Recon
- Non-Ubisoft bonus: Command & Conquer Gold
Just remember to take it easy on this ironically named holiday. The only thing that should be working today are your thumbs and trigger fingers for console gamers, and general hand stuff for PC gamers.

Not to complain about free stuff, but most of these aren't even close to being new. But, since I've never played the ghost recon series, seems like now would be a good time to start.
Phour ZwanZig @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:32PM
I hear ya..
I already own 3 of those 5..
Bah..
Ska Oreo @ Sep 4th 2007 6:40AM
ummm that's why they are free, because they're not new. It wouldn't make sense for Ubisoft to release shit for free that's new.
TSouthgate @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:50AM
Wow, I'm going straight for C&C!
TSouthgate @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:51AM
That's actually quite cool :D.
Hashbrown_Hunter @ Sep 4th 2007 2:57AM
I agree! This is really nice of Ubisoft to do.
Kn1ves @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:55AM
*waits in line*
Patrick @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:57PM
I was in line for about 40 mins before FarCry started to download.
KLind @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:56AM
Prince has the least ads. Far Cry Medium. Rabbids every few seconds. PoP is the one to go with.
Kn1ves @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:04PM
how intrusive are the ads?
Dylan @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:09PM
In Far Cry the only ads are in the main menu and loading screens. However, the ad completely stops the loading, and is one of the stupidest, most annoying McDonalds ads I've ever seen.
Eric @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:25PM
Is it just my computer or is the download speed for C&C impossibly sllow, I have fios which typically runs at 3000 kbps, and im downloading a 550mb file at 9kbps. 9!
SPJglitches @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:27PM
That's pretty sweet. I'm not much of a PC gamer, but free games are always nice. Now I just have to get through the wait...
Neebs @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:30PM
Someone other than Crapplanet has the games, good. My FP downloads always corrupt.
SeriousKriss @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:36PM
Just to be precise, Command & Conquer is offered for free by EA for the 12th anniversary of the franchise, not by Ubisoft, and it doesn't contain any adds.
Too bad I already bought most of them...
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:51PM
"general hand stuff for PC gamers" what are you implying? Oh what the internet is for, I get it.
Patrick @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:56PM
Fileshack? I don't know how those sites stay open, someone needs to make a TorrentShack site and offer these files up. I can't stand the public/private download server crap. And waiting in line is horrible.
Poisoned Al @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:10PM
Is anyone else having problems with file shack? I won't send me my out password and verifying a new account doesn't work.
kilodelta @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:11PM
no love for Canada. boo.
t_m @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:20PM
well, i'm not in the us, and i chose the "download without logging in" option. I currently have a 38 minute wait.. but it seems to be gonna work.
Prince of Persia is one of the best game EVER, so its worth trying if you haven't. though ads will probably spoil the amazing atmosphere. Farcry is also amazing.
I wouldn't mind trying rayman.. though i hear the ads obscure the scores, making it kinda pointless. But i'm not sure i can be bothered with a 1.2gb download.
t_m @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:42PM
ahh.. its the ubi.com account you need to install, not the fileplanet one to download. darn.
they are also on torrents and on a few other sites now.
Daniel @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:14PM
Harder still for Euro gamers not to feel like they're constantly getting screwed. OK, I get its free, its a lovely gift and I shouldn't be demanding, but all these games came out cheaper in the US and, though now budget games, are probably still cheaper in the US.
Slaziman @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:46PM
How and where do the ads appear? Specially for Ghost Recon?
RyanD @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:49PM
Far Cry would have been better if it didn't have mutants. Especially the ones that kill you in three slashes.
muppetmeth @ Sep 3rd 2007 4:02PM
Okay, that's bullshit, because I bought Far Cry for ten bucks last Wednesday. You might say it's just ten bucks, but seriously, this is a real blow to the balls. At least I can finally have Ghost Recon though.
Kazi @ Sep 3rd 2007 5:30PM
Now if only the Phantom was real enough to release a bunch of free ad filled games.
ThornedVenom @ Sep 3rd 2007 7:44PM
Ad-filled FREE games aren't a problem. It's only a problem when FULL-PRICED games have ads.
Kataclysm @ Sep 3rd 2007 8:18PM
Holy crap, I almost bought C&C Gold a week ago just for the original C&C! Patience pays off!
math0ne @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:18PM
I think this is pretty sweet, the ads are very un-intrusive. Free games are always sweet, and really these aren't even that old for being totally free. I would totally like to see more of this.
PyrosNine @ Sep 3rd 2007 10:39PM
I think some mods for FarCry that change the main menu and loading screens, like this CryRadio mod I've been messing with, don't show the ads. Especially the total conversion mods.
So you can technically just play one of the tweaked single player mods to play the game unhindered by that damned annoying Mcdonald's ad. MAN! If only there were at least some variety!
No shortage of friendly competition at the toy store!
Cal @ Sep 4th 2007 2:12AM
If you really want to play the games, just make a Ubi.com account and list the country as United States. Should work, but I haven't downloaded anything yet.
Ska Oreo @ Sep 4th 2007 6:24AM
Wow!! and these are some pretty good games too.
Maybe Ubi isn't turning into EA.
Kesh @ Sep 4th 2007 7:07AM
WARNING! I downloaded Prince of Persia and the install program said 'you must live in the US to play this title'.
Better shut up before I start swearing.
Kesh @ Sep 4th 2007 7:17AM
igonre me above, just use Cal's method
Adam Danielson @ Sep 5th 2007 12:18AM
anyone know if you can get a cd key to play farcry online?
Rossmancer @ Sep 10th 2007 4:39AM
I can't get farcry to unzip. It says that the archive is either unknown format or damaged. Is this a bad download? Help!
sharp911 @ Sep 10th 2007 12:29PM
I live in the US, but the install keeps saying that I need to live in the US. Anyone know why this is. The PC was bought in the US, UBI account was made in the US with US information. Downloaded in the US and run the install in the US. Just to say that......
AdamC @ Sep 10th 2007 4:54PM
I have the same problem. I am pretty sure that I am in the US, and I created 2 accounts, both saying US and neither one works. I was kind of stoked to play Farcry too. Oh well.
