In an interview with Gamasutra, Marvel's VP of interactive media Justin Lambros says he hopes to see Marvel vs. Capcom make its way to digital download. The main focus of the story for Gamasutra is supposed to be about EA's new Marvel Fighting Game, but following EA's aptly named Rise of the Imperfects, which was far beyond imperfect, you'll bear with us as we don't get excited about that and focus on Marvel vs. Capcom.
Lambros answers Gamasutra's questions about Marvel vs. Capcom appearing on Xbox Live by saying, "I'm a huge 2D fighting fan ... the Marvel vs. Capcom stuff has a definite close place in my heart, so we definitely wanna see that stuff live on." He says that there are no deals in place, but they may be considering it. Maybe when Capcom has Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (with a side of cole slaw) completed, they can get to work updating Marvel vs. Capcom, let's keep Udon working.

Wow, countless days after school spent playing this arcade. A digital download would be sweet.

Personally... I liked MvsC a lot more than MvsC2. Yeah, the second had the 3-on-3 matches and whatnot... But it had no soul!
With the first, almost every character had their own unique stages, background music, and endings.
With the second... Everything was bland and generic. Generic, generic, generic!
"I'm gonna take you for a ride!" Argh, that drives me nuts!
Still, I happily own both on Dreamcast, and have no desire to see them on a newer system.
However... If they were to port them to a new system... Only thing I ask of them is to finally make new spritesheets for the Darkstalkers characters. Good God, they look so terrible and out of place compared to the others!

Actually, MvsC1 just didn't have enough characters. I don't think Guile was even in there and countless others. It was a great game but MvsC2 was godly. And yes I loved the music. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the sprites. If there are any complaints about this game it would be the fact that they went from the 6 button layout to 4.

Including the clone secret characters, there was a total of 21 playable characters in MvC1. Not a bad number, really.
Personally, I think MvC2 had too many. 56 is a lot, and I think is the reason why the game has no soul (image about ~56 stages, BGMs, and endings... That'd take up a lot of memory!).
Seriously, the Darkstalkers sprites look awful in the Vs. games. They're the same ones used since the last game in the Darkstalkers series. They look aged and out of place compared to the newer sprites created since. The contrast is even worse in the CvS games, with SNK's well-drawn and animated sprites.
Besides... the truly great thing about MvC1 was... there was no Cable for people to spam Viper Beams with.

Live and download only? Hell no.
Make it a retail two-pack. It'll make more money, and it's better for gamers.

Well, knowing that your game isn't tied to one machine or one account is good. So you can let others borrow the game, or keep it for whenever the newer versions of the systems come out.
I hate digital distribution because of games being tied to one account or one system. If I had the choice to pay a bit more to get a copy of the game that I could take with me to other people's houses? I totally would.

Wow, people want to play Marvel Vs. Capcom titles more than anything released in, like, the last five years.
Guess how shocking this isn't? Whatever corporate genius ended that deal should be forced out of the industry. MvC games were undoubtedly not just marvelous fighting games, but also outstanding comic book games, and even more important, good licensed games. Rare indeed.
Whatever planets aligned to make those games happen really need to come back together.

Capcom knows how to do good licensed work (for the most part).
Remember their NES/Super NES/Genesis Disney games? They rocked.

Do this, Capcom. Do this for Xbox Live, Capcom. Seriously, MvC2 for Xbox Live (just as it was, with nothing to potentially screw up the experience) would print money.
As a side note...am I really the only one who liked the soundtrack? One of my favorite fighting game soundtracks, ever. I thought the remixed Jazz/Lounge theme was very quirky and fun...a lot more interesting than you usual Techno/Rock fighting game junk.

This would be an awesome thing to have happen.
I would however be willing to wait for an updated version a la SSF2THD( wow I never thought that abv. could get any longer).
First of all though the music HAS GOT TO GO. No ifs ands or buts. A new arrangement at the very least. The music in MvC2 was the absolute worst. Mediocre jap jazz thats repetative and annyoing. Plz by all means check out overclockers.org if you want some good game music.
The rebalancing mode they are talking about for Super Turbo HD is a FANTASTIC idea. This would be a great thing for MvC2 as the original while immensly fun was broken in some areas and would hurt the enjoyment for the rest in the long run and there by shorten the longevity of sales. Only wish they had done it with SF Hyper Fighting before they released it.
While my dream situation would include several more additions like more characters, updated visuals, an UNRESTRICED FILE SIZE, do you hear me Microsoft!?!?! I loathe your restrictions on my XBLA games!! Smaller does NOT help you make more money!!! I digress. Of course they dont care. Although MvC2 on the PS2 was a rather small file to begin with....hmm....

Although I absolutely adore MVC2, I'd have to give the award for best fighting game to Street Fighter Alpha 3, or possibly Virtua Fighter 4.

Find a way to put MVC2 out on all systems (XBLA, PSN, and WW) and this will be HUGE. Then, after they cash in on this, they can make the game we've (a.k.a. me) have been dreaming about for years.... Capcom Vs. Midway!

Would be nice if they would fix the BC issues they are having with MvC2. Its unplayable. I went through so much troble to find my coppy again, Please Microsoft fix this game. So many people would be happy.

I dont give a damn who you got to get killed over at EA to get this game lic. back to capcom but get it done or rerelease it on a game disc sell it for 19.99 but add a couple new guys, keep the soundtrack keep the dumb sprites keep it all and release by this holiday season. then get working on marvel vs capcom vs midway for holiday season 2008.

Please Please Please do this Capcom, I've been desperately looking for MvC on any platform and I'm just too lazy to trek over to that dingy arcade for another round. Its just... too much effort... walking... all those... blocks.

IMO, drop MvC1 and up for MvC2 download. Do not rush it with a poor port. Anyone remember the PS2 version? This game is still being played daily, weekly, and competitively nationwide! Hell, on ebay this game sells for $80+ easy for both PS2 and XB versions and Gamestop, EB Games sells it for $79.99... used!
The DC version is the best one out and if you have a vga box, hooked up to a monitor it looks great!
So if they ever decide to do a xbl release of a game from the versus series, it should Marvel vs Capcom 2 and include the online support that was in the Japanese DC version. The fan base and competition is already there. Easy money, and everyone will love you! A win, win for everyone.
