I agree that it would be nice to have DVD functionality on the Wii, unless it would increase the cost/require buying an add-on. However, I don't think the Wii needs it, given it's current sales...

it's too bad the 360 isn't selling well in japan, it's got a lot of great games for it

japanese ppl are just fiercely loyal to jap companies. their loss.

For us of western civilization they are may be good games.

But Japs don't seem to be interested much. As much as we not interested in most of Jap games (with all the lengthy talk and kawai-ness).

I have all 3 systems and the Wii is played the least by far and I've bought the least amount of games for it as well. The batteries on the wiimote die out quicker than any other wireless controller, or should I say it uses batter at a rate of 3 to 1? The only halfway decent games on wii are in fact first party, but that could almost be said about PS3 and 360 as well, in many cases.

I don't think it is good for any one console to "win". I'd like them all to compete on a good playing field, since that would result in better games. Unfortunately, the Wii's graphics are really not up to par this gen.

"The batteries on the wiimote die out quicker than any other wireless controller [...]"

Last man standing?

Pride prevents you from buying pair of accumulators??

Though on Wii games (at moment) I would agree with you. But to me it is the state on all consoles - I'm not going to buy a console for just two games interesting to me. And this is how current state of PS3 and 360 can be described too.

Let's hope they would compete - and compete on games.

P.S. OK. No. I'm lying. I'd rather have PS3 die - so it wouldn't drain resources of game developers. It is piece of good hardware. But...

I still have the batteries the Wiimote came with and I've had it for over a month now.
But I don't play it as much anymore. I only play with the VC games.
And my 360 hasn't been turned on since Forza2 came out.

That'll all change when Halo3 and Mario Galaxy come out though.

@cheese,

For every tit there's a tat. I have a 360 and a Wii. I would buy the PS3 if it was anywhere near worth the money. When it's sub-$300 and has decent games I will reconsider.

I play the Wii every day. The 360 was turned off for a LONG period before the Halo 3 beta, then again until Bioshock came out. For the Wii, there's always a good catalog of GC titles or VC releases to choose from when Wii titles are slow. Now, I own 7 or 8 Wii games, many more than the 360 which I've had for about 8 months longer.

Battery life doesn't both me because I was smart enough to spend $15 for rechargeables and haven't had to buy new batteries since. And Wii graphics is an old debate so I won't go there.

Anyway, I too like when the consoles compete, but I don't think last generation was a failure because the PS2 destroyed XBOX and GC in sales... why would Wii winning destroy this gen?

I have all 3 consoles I have a completely opposite experience.
First of all, I'd not consider myself a hardcore gamer and not many games interest me. I buy a console simply for the exclusive titles (Halo/GT/Zelda/FF/etc). Other than that I tend to buy games that appeal to friends when they come over. This means party games and Wii wins pretty much by default.
Just ask yourself this: How many games do you really really enjoy by yourself? To me, it may be 1-2 per console so I really don't care much about the console spec. Who cares if it's a PS9 vs XBOX720 vs GC1.5. No interesting game and you won't get a single dime from me.

Seriously thought everyone had got past this in 1980 with Commodore versus spectrum. and then again with SNES versus Megadrive. Its not even like the Wii is comparable, any game thats been designed properly for the Wii, would be rubbish on 360/ps3.

Going back to the topic, I'm happy Nintendo is back on top, they learned their lesson. If the competitors weren't Massive companies they would already have gone the way of the Dreamcast, lol, I guess you could say Nintendo is Sega's Avenger!

The description of the 360 as "napping" is interesting. It suggests that it isn't trying. But with the big name japanese titles releasing on it, it is clear that it is trying.

I think that "failing miserably" is a more appropriate word choice.

Right, they weren't always "napping". They made an attempt with Blue Dragon. It's like they tried, failed, and give up.

I like Nintendo, it brings back the innocence of my youth. I mean Mario and Sonic at the Olympics seems like a great idea. The postreboys that nintendo has makes their characters unforgetable. But they don't have the hard games that I want as well. Sucks 1 concole can't have both simplistic fun and intense games. Some people go the Wii360 route, but I'll go the WiiS3 route. I always stood on the foundation of 1 powerhouse system and in this case a Wii on the side. Congrats Nintendo! =]

I have had no issues with the camera in Zelda. You can adjust the camera you know and it is quite easy to do. Also as for the sword I usually hit my first swing. Nor do I flail around. You swing the sword right and it responds. The archery is superb especially on horseback. You are just subpar in game playing.

funny how the ones bitching about the sword swining were the sames bitching about button pressing before they put in the sword motions.

There's no camera control in the Wii version of Twilight Princess. The GameCube version does, since it has a second analog stick (C Stick). Although, personally, I've had very few instances where camera control was desired in TP for Wii.

But, like with any game, your experience may vary.

Big name Japanese companies are NOT making a lot, nor good titles, for the 360. What are you talking about?

Mist Walker, a new Japanese company made Blue Dragon and are making Lost Oddyssey. Blue Dragon spurred some sales and Lost Oddyssey is eagerly anticipated, but that is it.

All the other Jap games have been way sub par; Vampire Rain, Bullet Witch, DOA Extreme, Project Sylpheed and so on.

I was a nintendo fanboy until just last generation, when I purchased an xbox (I also owned a gamecube). I enjoyed both systems but found the xbox had more of my attention because of the online play.

Now this generation, Im 360 only. Ive builtup friends in the online community and I like to play these games online. Not to mention good graphics for my new hdtv. The wii I completely skipped. While I still enjoy the nintendo franchises like metroid and mario, I hate that crap excuse for a controller which is the wiimote. What a terrible idea. Very unfun. Theres no 1:1 mapping which I thought it would be. Instead its just an action in a game which has its button press replaced with a flick of the remote. I cant stand it. I would purchase a wii if It didnt use those stupid controls. Unfortunetly, most games require the wiimote to be used.

As for japan and 360. I couldent care less what the japanese buy. I bought a 360 cause I like the north american + european games (+ online). I hate all those japanese games. Games like MGS, FF, ninja gaiden, DMC, insert ps3 game here. The only game I like from Japan is dead rising. And thats not enough to get me to purchase X console (I suppose im lucky its for the 360)

It looks like only 400 000 people in Japan will know what fun is come september 25th. I hope the other 4 million enjoy playing their cooking sims, mini games and brain trainers.

you people need to relax with this wii phenomenon, it's really not that serious!!! anyone would sell that many consoles when you have a cheap price, what you're really buying is a revamped gamecube......wow that's really taking a chance. It's no surprise nintendo decided on this cause they know they can;t compete on the same level as the other guys, so they sink to these kind of tactics. Who cares how many wii's get sold what are you gonna play on it the same games like on gamecube but with twirling controls.....how exciting!! PS3 is the only one that took a chance to build a true next gen console and if people just wait they will succeed. 360 tried but they'll just come out with another system in 2 years so they're not really an issue. so let's just stop with all the nonsense and play whatever games everyone wants to play!!

the only system i have is a 360 (and ps2 of course) but cmon, the wii is clearly winning this console war. of course, the 360 and ps3 aren't going to die, but they aren't doing nearly as well. that's just facts

Ah the wii version of twilight princess does have camera control. You use the c button and analog stick then when you go back the camera has been moved. Only takes two to three seconds and 99% of the time once moved you don't have to move it again.

Its funny how people bag on the Wii for its graphics or control scheme or even its casual audience . It just seems that everybody forgets why the PS2 succeeded the way it did...

PS2 catered to a vastly casual audience, its install base was low, but with it catering to so many people it became the system that you had to get if you wanted to play the same as others (for instance Madden, you knew if you had another system your friends would be like well i don't play it on this system cuz i have a PS2)

the PS2 had the lowest quality graphics of that gen, with the Xbox having the highest, and who won? the one with the lowest quality graphics

Sony's control gimmick has always been dual analog

Nintendo was just very smart this time around in actually taking the same approach Sony took with its previous console (which was really an updated PS1) Sony just got too arrogant this time around, they saw that they had such an enormous install base from their previous system and felt that those consumers would just instantly buy their next offering.. not realizing that that mass percentage of their consumers weren't hardcore gamers....

Plus, we all know that whatever system has the highest install base will be the system that the most companies gravitate towards, plus with the Wii it would cost half the price to make the same caliber game thats on another system (granted slightly lower quality graphics) and the 360 will continue to get good games because it already has an established install base.. the only one that can loose in this battle is Sony if either their attach rate doesn't grow to record levels or they start getting systems sold

FYI:

Ico series: Sony's wannabe Zelda rated good but SOLD POORLY!!!

Singstar: Tries to be mainstream but ended up being forgotten or ignored by mainstream expect by Sony Fanboys!!!

Resistance: Looks good but nothing; didn't sell as well to make up for the cost and development time.

Warkhawk: Meh, this is AAA?

Wipeout: Wannabe F-Zero clone so I'd rather play the real one.

Okami: Rumoured comming to the Wii (Zelda clone I still rather play Zelda)

Parappa: Para who? Oh wait this was a shallow PSone game.

Untold Legends & Sony's sports line up: Hahahahahahaahaha...hahahahahahaa...umm...are you serious!!!

Jak,Ratchet,&Sly: Sony's wannabe Mario(cuz you know they want that money maker)but more like the new age BUBSY, Spot, and Aero the bat or some shit like that!!!

CoolBoarders: 1080 wannabe
JetMoto: wannabe Wave race
Gran Tourisimo: was so 90's
KillZone1&2: Yawn, just like any FPS before it but neither was/seems to be impressive.
GoW: Play DMC it's the same thing but with less of a KORNY storyline!!!

BTW: Wii is currently selling at a HUGE profit and as for games selling; Ubisoft as with other companies attributed profits to developing for the Wii unlike losses garned devloping for the PS3. With the Wii, companies don't need to sell boatloads as game development cost 1/3 that of PS3 and still sells those games still sell more than the PS3 games which goes on clearance rather quickly making the cost to develop hard to recoup. Also, Wii isn't just for Nintendo Fanboys (it's for them too but...) but for mainstream/casual gamers which you know Sony tried and continues to woo with not much success.
