Nintendo trademarks Body Controller, others
Nintendo has registered a few new trademarks (via CVG) in Japan that, quite frankly, will do nothing more than cause rampant speculation. We will list them here along with our own, ill-informed thoughts on the future of the product name:- Wii Body Controller, the oft-discussed hula-hoop attachment
- Wii Handle: we're pulling out our dictionaries for the second definition of handle, a screen name. No, Nintendo wouldn't do that, we're actually guessing it's some sort of barbell attachment for Wii Weightlifting.
- Nintendo Magic: a game that prints money, obviously.
- Mii Audition: it's kind of like the Everybody Votes channel ... except the winner is probably the avatar that looks most like a penis.
- Soma Bringer: CVG tells us this is some kind of noodle. Could Nintendo be entering the culinary business? Will Mario be getting a new power-up? O, the anticipation!
Additionally, Nintendo has renewed the Pikmin trademark -- and though the quirky game seems perfectly fit for the Wii and is no doubt in development, we're pretty sure Nintendo would have renewed its ownership regardless of current plans.

The wii body controller will probably be like a human action figure. You move its arms the character on screen does the same. you move it's legs it does it and so on. Wii voodoo doll action!
-Nintendo Magic will probably use the wiimote as a wand.
hydralisk456 @ Sep 4th 2007 7:47PM
Dude, awesome zombie Mario avatar!!
Kazi @ Sep 4th 2007 7:52PM
Nintendo Magic is a DS game where you preform magic tricks using your DS.
Kazi @ Sep 4th 2007 7:54PM
Add: It's known ass Magic Taizen in Japan.
Seraph_X3 @ Sep 4th 2007 7:29PM
Soba is a noodle. Soma was that drug they used in Brave New World, inspired by a real Hindu psychedelic drink.
So... Soma Bringer - Nintendo's new IP is a fantasy version of a drug dealer?... Will he/she show up in Mario Kart with a special mushroom item?... Hmmm...
ThornedVenom @ Sep 4th 2007 7:42PM
"Soma" means "body" in Ancient Greek. A broader horizon is urging to be explored. =)
Vegnagun @ Sep 4th 2007 7:47PM
Maybe I'm crazy, but look at this.
Soma Bringer
Flip Soma around to form Amos
Flip Bringer around to form Regnirb
Put the B in front...
Amos B. Regnir...
That's all I got. It's better than anything that they'll come up with on the Nintendo forums, too.
ThornedVenom @ Sep 4th 2007 7:56PM
@ Vegnagun: Oh noes! A Nostradamus prophecy interpreter!
Vegnagun @ Sep 4th 2007 8:00PM
Amos B. Regnir... initials ABR, flip that around and you get RBA...move the r to the end and get Bar.
Interesting, it appears to me that Nintendo is making some sort of bar.. or perhaps a Nintendo themed bra? If for some reason you add the ending "arator" to Bar you get "Bararator". Perhaps Nintendo has some sort of new missile defense system in the works?
Good thing I'm not getting to convoluted with this.
Seraph_X3 @ Sep 4th 2007 8:02PM
Take out one of the r's and you have "Amos B R Niger" - "Amos be are Niger." Nintendo's new character is named Amos and is from Niger and is a soma dealer. Just another one of the many white supremacy messages Shigeru Miyamoto sneaks into every one of his games!
Vegnagun @ Sep 4th 2007 8:05PM
I like the way you think Seraph. So as it turns out this "Amos" man is a drug dealer from what I can only conclude as Nigeria. A Nigerian Drug Dealer named Amos is the new Nintendo poster boy.
yes, all the pieces are falling into place.
BPM @ Sep 4th 2007 10:47PM
He said Niger, not Nigeria. :P

Chris @ Sep 4th 2007 11:11PM
does all this add me to 23? is not, then FAIL
Dragoneye @ Sep 5th 2007 12:41AM
No I'm betting its totally different, and that it is a puzzle game, where you build a cube out of 7 differently shaped pieces. Look it up, the puzzle is actually called soma cubes.
Me and some friends have solved 244 different cubes. Though they say the maximum is 240, and we have no same cubes.
Vegnagun @ Sep 5th 2007 11:04AM
Dragoneye do you seriously think that I was serious? seriously?
James @ Sep 4th 2007 7:30PM
Hmm, that's all a bit interesting :o
TRUTH @ Sep 4th 2007 7:37PM
WOW That's Just Corny...
Mr Khan @ Sep 4th 2007 7:41PM
Soma may relate to the Latin word for sleep, or the Japanese verb, "Somaru" (to influence, to dye, to be stained)
So maybe its a Nintendo perscription sleep aid, or a realistic survivor-horror game that leaves you stained
AwesomeMachine @ Sep 4th 2007 7:45PM
Or maybe it's Wii Laundry: Scrub those pants like it's 1894!
ThornedVenom @ Sep 4th 2007 7:54PM
I checked in my Latin dictionary and I haven't found "soma". On the other hand, "somnus" means "sleep". =) ("sopor" too, but that's for a "deep sleep")
I still stand for the Ancient Greek translation of "soma" meaning "body". ^^
FM @ Sep 4th 2007 7:42PM
Nintendo Magic? As in perform magic tricks with the Wii controller?
"Look guys a bunny came out on the TV!"
I have to say that trademark name is funny, same thing happened with Nintendo trademarked the Wii,so who knows..
DonWii @ Sep 4th 2007 8:44PM

Vegnagun @ Sep 4th 2007 7:43PM

Important information about Soma
This medication may be habit-forming and should be used only by the person it was prescribed for. Soma should never be given to another person, especially someone who has a history of drug abuse or addiction. Keep the medication in a secure place where others cannot get to it. You may have withdrawal symptoms when you stop using Soma after using it over a long period of time. Do not stop using this medication suddenly without first talking to your doctor. You may need to use less and less before you stop the medication completely. Soma can cause side effects that may impair your thinking or reactions. Be careful if you drive or do anything that requires you to be awake and alert. Avoid drinking alcohol. It can increase drowsiness and dizziness caused by Soma.*

ThornedVenom @ Sep 4th 2007 8:29PM
I hardly believe that the Soma drug has anything to do with Nintendo's trademarked "Some Bringer"... hmm, a game which brings drugs?
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 4th 2007 8:34PM
Pharmaceutical training?
mirage @ Sep 4th 2007 9:15PM
Maybe the code name "Soma Bringer" means that they intend to use tobacco company tactics in video game technology. If they could add an addictive substance to gaming they could exponentially increase their profits overnight!
Nomi @ Sep 4th 2007 8:30PM
All this ends up bringing is a closet full of peripherals...
baby sea tuna @ Sep 5th 2007 8:13AM

colin @ Sep 4th 2007 10:28PM

Nintendo Magic? That's arrogance!
Seriously though, can't wait to see what these turn out ot be. :)

Soma
From Wikipedia
Soma (Sanskrit: सोमः), or Haoma (Avestan), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *sauma-, was a ritual drink of importance among the early Indo-Iranians, and the later Vedic and greater Persian cultures. It is frequently mentioned in the Rigveda, which contains many hymns praising its energizing or intoxicating qualities. In the Avesta, Haoma has an entire Yasht dedicated to it.
It is described as prepared by pressing juice from the stalks of a certain mountain plant, which has been variously hypothesized to be a psychedelic mushroom, cannabis, Peganum harmala, Blue lotus[1], or ephedra. In both Vedic and Zoroastrian tradition, the drink is identified with the plant, and also personified as a divinity, the three forming a religious or mythological unity.
REUYL @ Sep 5th 2007 12:07AM
Well, I always did think the Wii would be perfect if it had more cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms.
ark_v2 @ Sep 4th 2007 10:05PM
My guess would be bands to attach up to 4 controllers in each one of your limbs...
Donald @ Sep 4th 2007 10:15PM
"Mii Audition: it's kind of like the Everybody Votes channel ... except the winner is probably the avatar that looks most like a penis."
You mean that's not how the EV channel works now?
Color me disappointed.
BPM @ Sep 4th 2007 10:50PM
Everybody Votes Channel is a question poll thingamabob. It has nothing to do with Mii appearances.
Meloche @ Sep 4th 2007 10:32PM
I,m sure the Wii Body Controller is the official name of the Wii Balance Board. Sounds dumb in my opinion, but meh...
blooh @ Sep 4th 2007 11:27PM

J.G.F. @ Sep 5th 2007 4:53AM
Once Wii gets some good games it will be all over.

Don't stop believing!
pdrec @ Sep 5th 2007 5:14AM
originally posted when kotaku broke the story someone please tell me what u think.
Wii handle, a handlebar device that attaches to the Wii Balance Board with adjustable height. Designed to be compatible with games such as skate/snow/wakeboarding/motocross, jet skiing u get the idea, making them more immersive. The handlebar of course has buttons. The handlebar can be swiveled left to right for turning, much like a motorcycle. Or swing side to side a certain degree for sharper turns when your balancing all your weight to one side. Oh and of course it has sweet sweet rumble. I totally just made all that up, but how fucking awesome would that be?!
baby sea tuna @ Sep 5th 2007 8:17AM
Sure, I can't wait for Wii Segway racing.
Synergy, yeah!
Crono @ Sep 5th 2007 10:03AM
Your just mad because all the gangstas think your too white and nerdy.
Todd @ Sep 5th 2007 10:16AM
Nintendo could introduce some "adult" motion sensative controllers, to compliment some adult themed games. They would sell tons if they did.
Imagine, "Wii After Dark"
