If you're being honest with yourself, you're not going to be paying much attention to Gears of War a little later this month. Now, don't feel bad for Gears, you two guys had a great run. Remember when you tried to stay in the light to avoid getting eaten? Remember the first time you roadie ran? Gears will always treasure those moments, and he knows you will too.
But why not give the old guy a proper send off? Why not pop in the disc, give it a spin, and get the "Hidden Fronts" map pack that went free yesterday. Think of it as the last party of senior year, when everybody gets together for one last hurrah. That way, you won't feel too bad when Gears is relegated to its case on the 25th. And remember, no matter which game gets your love next, you and Marcus will always have Emergence Day.

So are games to be referred to as male now?
" Gears will always treasure those moments, and he knows you will too."
Or did you mean Marcus, not the game itself? I'm just curious, so many objects in english are properly referred to as female (vehicles, boats, etc), have we decided at some point that games are male?

It's not my damn internet connection, Gears of War is pretty much the only game where I suffer such massive amounts of lag. Probably has something to do with most of the people who play and host matches being on the opposite side of the Atlantic ocean.

Gears has a lot of lag. This is because the devs expected it to be played using cover more. The way the game detects hits is that you fire your gun on your system, that data is sent to the host where it decides what happened and it sends the data back, which your system displays.
On most games, you fire on your system, your system sees what the bullet hit based on what it is displaying. If it happened to hit the host in the head, it will send that data to the host to inform his system that his gourd should be assploding now. The host dies. He doesn't know that he actually died two steps ago, but that doesn't really matter usually.
In Gears, Epic was worried that the cover system would make the "old" way not work. They expected people to constantly be covering up. Using the usual method would cause you to dive into cover, then have head assplosion moments later all the time. That would be more annoying than popping up to have a well timed round fired 0.5 seconds ago brain you.
But it falls apart because you usually are shotgun dancing and sniping in Gears. People don't use cover in multiplayer. Cover is everything in campaign but doesn't help much in multi. I bet Epic changes things for Gears2.
By the way, I don't know anything above as a fact. Perhaps if Gears 1 has no lag and they explain it we will know.

Gears is awesome, but I'll be too busy playing CoD 4 when it comes out.

Gears has stayed in my machine since November and will continue occupy the disc trey. It's funny I preordered Halo 3 months ago and over time have lost more and more interest in the game. Now my hype for it is pretty much zero.
Halo was a cool franchise, but Gears really created a whole new standard of how good a game should be. From graphics, to gameplay, to sound, and even level design... every aspect is beyond top notch.
I really think it's hard for a halo fanboy to admit it, but they know Gears is the better game deep down.
