"It'll be a carefully orchestrated national tragedy like 9/11"

Oh Jesus, you're one of those retards.

Is there any particular reason why my comment indicating the proper name of the St. Louis newspaper was removed?

Just curious.

rule of thumb seems to be that comments correcting the initial post are promptly deleted. Some kind of infallibility clause, I guess.

I have played this game before. It's actually a very neat free FPS, if you don't mind all of the "training" missions you have to go through if you want to unlock new stuff. If you really believe that real war is like the game on keyboard+mouse, then you're a fucking noob: no wonder the Army wants to recruit you.

But I'd have to agree with the vets on this one: it saddens me to see that recruitment isn't based anymore on the patriotic spirit of one's sacrifice for his country. What do I see? Ads on TV which portray how "kickass" it is to be in the army. I see "America's Army" as a magnet to attract real life noobs into believing "wow, I'd so pwn in the army because I've got skills AND experience!".

It saddens me to see that army recruitment nowadays is based whether on exploiting ignorance, or whether by force in some countries (looking at you Singapore).

They're protesting it as a recruitment tool. Code Pink and other anti-military organizations have been doing this kind of thing for years now. At least, unlike the other groups, they didn't vandalize and destroy property in their protest. Then again, unlike the recruitment centers there were actual GIs standing around here.

As an aside, it's too bad that the St. Louis Post couldn't do a google search and report some background on the protestors. IVAW, a group of left-wing veterans reviled by many other veteran groups, and praised by American socialist groups, was the organizer. Heck, one of their co-founders said he'd like to organize peaceful blockades of military facilities in Iraq (Kokesh).

IVAW, ideological descendent of VAW and the "Winter Soldier" movement has fomented some good. Their activities and protests has spawned military bloggers, veterans, and active duty GIs to organize. And they do represent the views of more vets and GIs than IVAW, so you'll never get to read about their protests unless you frequent the mil-blogs.

Read this comment quickly, as I predict it will quickly be voted down. Freedom of speech only for the right kind of speech after all.
