Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry tells Billboard they are working "hand in hand" with the developers of Guitar Hero IV. Guess that seals that deal: Aerosmith songs confirmed for GHIV. Speaking with Billboard, Perry apparently says that the next GH game will be dedicated to the group's music.
Don't expect an official Guitar Hero IV announcement from Activision or Red Octane for a while. We're pretty sure Perry spoke out of turn -- but that's rock n' roll. We know that the plan is to have a Guitar Hero every year, but we don't think they're going to announce GHIV before GHIII is out the the door. Before the band geeks start freaking out, the game is sure to have more than just Aerosmith. We just expect this dedication means plenty of master tracks from Aerosmith -- they better be master tracks!

I hope by "dedicated to the band" they mean they'll have a few songs by them and not MOST songs. Aerosmith has been kind of lame for about 20 years now..

After the craptastic GHII debacle, I'm not sure I'm even interested in this series anymore. But we shall see what we shall see.

I'm calling either an encore expansion or downloadable content.

I'm starting to think that they're planning on eschewing the DLC model for the "Madden yearly update" model. It's a shame and will earn them a fair amount of ire in the long run. Just look how many people were disappointed by the full price '80s Encore Edition...
PS. Aerosmith are a bunch of frighfully ugly motherfuckers.

That is true. I just can't imagine doing a whole game focused soley on one band. Surely they'll have other songs from other bands, but then whats the point of the Aerosmith name brand?

So does this mean that GHIV comes bundled with scarves and a cucumber?

I'd be down with an all Aerosmith expansion like the 80s expansion. If they mo-cap steven that would be awesome that guys got some great moves.
Maybe we can get like a few of his famous groupies in the audience as well!

God damn, do we really need these crusty old bastards shitting up an entire Guitar Hero game? Part of what makes the GH games so great is that they have music from all different types of rock, not just one artist or style.
Does anyone even care about Aerosmith anyway? They had some popular songs, that doesn't make them rock legends, or musical icons, or any of the other crap they try to market themselves as. They're just a pop group that appeals to 'rocker' wannabes who are too dumb for Led Zeppelin. Give me a Led Zep Guitar Hero, that'd be something worth playing.

If there was a Led Zeppelin Guitar Hero, I'd camp out for that, and I also think that Guitar Hero will still sell a huge amount of games just because of the current popularity of the series, which took a year or two to build. Rock Band, after that same year or so, will probably become just as, if not more, popular.

What, they couldn't get Aerosmith into Guitar Hero 3? They haven't even announced all of the songs for the next version, much less v4.
This is getting ridiculous...

One of the most annoying bands on the planet. Looks like GH3 is what i'll be playing for the next few years.
Before my comment gets buried, please don't mistake my taste for denying them musical merit. They have it, yeah, but it doesn't change the fact that the singer is ultra-annoying, as is the whole "we are the ultimate band" vibe they constantly give off- which I find to be unwarranted.
Never liked their tunes, never bought any, can't stand hearing it, and it gets stuck in my head just as much as any other crap alternative radio crap these days that you can't get out "unless you blow it out, wit a bullet" as the great Carl would say.

As the announcements keep trickling in, I can't help but draw parallels between Guitar Hero/Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution/Pump It Up. Like PIU, I am sure that those who devote themselves to Rock Band will claim it to be the better game, but like DDR, I see the Guitar Hero series as always being the more popular one.
In regards to the "Guitar Hero every year" comment, we already had one in 2005, one in 2006, and one this summer, and we will be getting another one this fall. The franchise is already in the yearly installment groove, so it shouldn't be a shock.

I for one can honestly say that I will not be buying GHIV if it only has Aerosmith, or is mostly Aerosmith songs. Unless they put a lot of DragonForce either into that one, or GHV!

how cool would it be if you failed a song, and Steven Tyler's voice came on and said "Don't give up!"
