Peggle gets free online version, but still no Mac love (for now)
Popcap Games have just announced a free, web-based version of their pachinko-inspired, unicorn imbued casual hit Peggle. Despite being played in a browser, the web version of Peggle still requires players to download an executable file and install a plugin before use, making the online game just as PC-exclusive as the (other) downloadable version.
Still, that doesn't rule out all hope for the perpetually-deprived Mac gamers of the world. Some insider news reveals that Popcap is currently working on Mac versions of several of their PC-only titles, including Peggle. No word on whether these will be Universal Binary releases, or just Intel-only, but several are expected for release in the upcoming months. Until then, PC users can still enjoy both the full version of Peggle, and the new free online version, which features scoretracking and randomly-generated levels. Hooray for them.

god this is a slow news day. Would cliffy b, david jaffe, and trip hawkins mud wrestle while miyamoto films it or something? maybe jack thompson could comment on racism in re5 and debate videogames as an art form with ebert? Newel could go to a hot dog eating contest and ban copies of bioshock? how bout an old fashion flame war?
Fernando Rocker @ Sep 5th 2007 3:16PM
Ok... Im gonna start the old fashioned flame war.
... but still no Mac love"
Maybe because Mac, just like the PS3, sucks for gaming.
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 5th 2007 3:20PM
Watch as Reggie, Chuck Norris, Mr. T, and [insert] fight for the universe. These name taking, roundhouse kicking, fool pitying, [insert] undefeated bad asses beat the crap out of each other. Be astounded as the universe tears itself apart from the massive damage and then they repair it in 4D.

He got downvoted for that? What is this, Engadget reader comments?
SeriousKriss @ Sep 6th 2007 4:55AM
Macs (just like the PS3 btw) don't inherently suck for gamging purposes. It's just that the games aren't there because they usually don't sell enough.
Then again, maybe Joystiq should just focus on consoles. Seriously, it seems they can't help being Apple fanboys who can only report PC news with great reluctance. Maybe that's just me though?

I just busted up laughing when I read the title of the story. "Still no mac love" for a game I've never heard of.
kip @ Sep 5th 2007 3:16PM
Fernando, I really hate your icon. I hit the minus button on all of your comments without reading them, just because I hate the icon.
That is all.
Fernando Rocker @ Sep 5th 2007 3:17PM
Its not an icon... its me =(
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 5th 2007 3:21PM
The picture looks too dark. Lighten it up so you don't look so spooky.

"peggled" adj -new internet term that describes when one group of people gets "screwed" out of something "awesome" that another group gets to "enjoy"..
eg "Man we Ps3 owners got peggled on fusion frenzy 2, lucky 360 bastards!"
mr nimblewick @ Sep 5th 2007 3:30PM
Man, early adopters of the iPhone sure got peggled out of $200.
More a verb, I think.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 5th 2007 3:22PM
Peggle = crack
T3H WICKERMAN @ Sep 5th 2007 3:24PM

I'm already unpacking my horns and koala bears! This new peggle shit is going to be crazy good.
WiNG @ Sep 5th 2007 3:40PM
IMO, anything about Macs NOT getting games isn't news.
hvnlysoldr @ Sep 5th 2007 4:05PM
But rubbing it in their faces is news.
ThisGuy @ Sep 5th 2007 3:45PM
Aw no peggle, but we get quake wars? Booooo!
Shagittarius @ Sep 5th 2007 4:09PM
I think the game would have been better if it featured a dildocorn.
Shawn @ Sep 5th 2007 4:30PM
peggle is like crack. one of the most addicting games i've played in a long time
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 5th 2007 6:48PM
The greatest casual game ever made.
robotplague @ Sep 5th 2007 8:00PM
I really, really hope they bring this to Xbox Live Arcade eventually.
drklrdbill @ Sep 6th 2007 8:36AM
my macbook pro is fine for gaming, seeing that i can now run windows natively.
also, this game runs fine in parallels. i may try running it in crossover, but i think my head might explode. crossover causes too much pain
