Sony has issued forth a press release stating that the newly slimmed PSPs (the PSP-2000 to the tech savvy) are now available in the wild. You'll still have to buy the silvery systems as part of the $199.99 "Entertainment Pack," which comes with a copy of Daxter, the Family Guy -- Freakin' Sweet Collection on UMD, and a 1GB Memory Stick.
Funny thing though, calls to all of our local game stores turned up squat, both in terms of consoles and in info. In order, we heard "We don't know.", "There's no date.", "It's not in our system." and "Christmas." Have any of you had better luck?

I want the "core" model, most likely around the time of release of a little piece of software involving vampires and the ubiquitous symbol of all things cool, the letter "X".

""PSP sales have soared since we introduced the $169.99 price point in April, and that momentum will only continue with the launch of the newly designed PSP" said Jack Tretton"
So basically, they noticed when they LOWERED THE PRICE, they sold MORE.
Oh, it's not that the price tag is too high... we were just waiting for a bunch of people to get excited about the Playstation brand name, and they all coincidentally appeared when we cut the price. Right.
I guess the pack-ins are good for the price, but that $170+ price point is really keeping me away from the PSP.

The Piano Black Core Pack will launch later this month for $169.99, same as the original Core Pack PSP. I think for $30 more, getting 5 episodes of Family Guy, 1gb memory stick and Daxter isn't so bad.
I do wish they could release the ceramic white in a core like everywhere else instead of us getting it in a bundle.

Good thing I had internet on my phone, cause the Target Tards were in full ef-FECT! WOW! Some dude scanned it and said the release date was 9/16...I almost jumped over the counter LOL! But I got it....$215 after tax for the Daxter entertainment pack.
Got it in Las Vegas at Boca Park Target for those who are interested and in the area....DI and Jones don't have it. 6 remaining....

So is there definitely a way to tell by the box that you have a new "slim" or PSP2000 model?

All they have right now is the Silver Entertainment pack...so just ask for 'the silver one'...keep it simple for the Target employees, alright?

I called my target and some forty year old lady told me they didn't have it in. Should I just go to the store or save gas. It's like twenty five minutes away. Has anyone tried best buy?

I was walking through best buy yesterday and saw the dexter box caged up. I asked around if it was a new one and no one knew, I bought it and "es" it is.
It's so light. It still makes the disk spin noise, and I'm glad to say that I'm returning it, i just wanted to see the difference.
I live in Woodbridge Ontario, just north of Toronto.
They have around 50 systems here.
@229.99 cnd before tax.

here in singapore, they've had in the shops for last few days...
Silver or Piano Black, basic packs are charged min 285 S$ (187 US$). Couldn't find the "Entertainment Pack". I don't mind paying extra 20 S$ for the "Entertainment Pack"
They say that I gotta buy the video cable separately?! that sux!

I got my corruption model on Monday. It does read "Slim & Lite" on top of the box, and the box is smaller than the old one, I'm told.
I gotta say, much improved. The weight reduction alone makes the PSP a lot better, as does the improved D-pad.

I went to sony-style store. They had daxter packs there. I asked if it was the new one or the old one. They were sure it was the old one....except the speakers were on top. I bought it....opened it in the store, and compared with the old...definitely new one.

I bought mine yesterday at a Sony Store in Vancouver, for $229 CDN, and they were not even on display. Other than that no other stores seem to have them yet including EB games, futureshop, bestbuy. Also wanted to buy the video out cables - but they are still not available apparently.

Sorry for posting this a few times, but its related to a few of the stories...
Anybody know where I can pick up a AV Cable for the new PSPs? I bought a new one from Best Buy last night, but BB, Walmart and Target don't seem to have the cable yet. GS doesn't have the new PSP nor the cable around here. And none of them have it on their websites either...
Any Ideas? I'm in the Madison, WI area.

Where does the cable plug in, the top mini-usb port ?
We took a look at the ones we got in yesterday, and I didn't see any port that resembled TV-out, or any new ports period.
Honestly, it looked identical, aside from the fact that it was silver. Well, the memory card slot isn't a cheap plastic flap anymore.
