This commercial for TimeShift is one of those things that after watching all the kids go, "Me wants, zomg!!111!1!" And all the adults go, "Where's the game footage? That's not the game." Granted, we haven't seen past the demo, so maybe there's a convenience store robbery you thwart in the past in FMV and it'll all make sense. As a stand-alone piece this commerical is great -- but the original trailer was at least CGI and not some guy walking around in a leftover Power Rangers costume.
TimeShift is still scheduled for an Oct. 30 release on Xbox 360 and PC, PS3 owners are looking at a "December" release. We're still not over calling the game TimeScript though, based off the demo not allowing us to save friendly soldiers we clearly have the "time" to save. Who knows, maybe the game will impress while the demo didn't, that's still our hope for Heavenly Sword.
Oh come on. The demo played like F.E.A.R. with a torque bow and cheesy costumes, with low rez graphics and high rez bump maps. There was just nothing that stood out as new or good about it.
I like it too but I disagree with you, there is no better suit than the ones the power Rangers use, except maybe for the Lost Galaxy ones(WTF?,Crayola suits?)
I thought that too. Why doesn't he just beat the shit out of them when they leave the car. Instead he waits till everyone is in danger. What a jackass.
John Anderton: Mr. Marks, by mandate of the District of Columbia Precrime Division, I'm placing you under arrest for the future murder of Sarah Marks and Donald Dubin that was to take place today, April 22 at 0800 hours and four minutes.
Maybe I'm old and cynical but yeah, I was suspicious at the lack of game footage. In the bad old days it was almost always done to sell a really fugly game.
For once I can say the game is better than the commercial. The full idea of the game is to play with bullet time, time pause and even time rewind. From the 360 demo, this looks like an awesome game with a very nice concept !
Bullet time is in so many games now. And rewind isn't anything new, try Prince of Persia or Full Auto. And time pause was even in NES games. Anyways, when you actually play the demo, you pretty much just use bullet time with the rewind as pretty much a scripted event. There was just nothing ingenious about how these abilities were used in the demo. The overall quality just felt like crap in it.
The rings out "Power Ranger" in my head. It's weird cause I watch all those Kamen Rider shows and I'm pretty used to all of those live action suitplay. Maybe it's cause it's American and there's gun violence in it?
I think the lack of gamepley footage isn't that much of a big deal since there is a demo on the marketplace that anyone with a 360 can download and play for themselves.
I loved how during the shotgun fight, after the timeshifter hits the guy, he doesn't have any wounds at all. Not even tears in his shirt. But then they show the same scene from a different angle and his guts are torn open. For a game about time, they sure don't care about continuity.
Actually re-watch the video. The angle is covering up the would inflicted on his left side. Towards the end of the initial assualt angle, you can just make out the wound before the camera switches to the robber on the floor.
The quality of that commercial was pretty good. Hell, with an extended budget they could have made a decent flick!
My idea of a good video game movie would follow the same lines of that commercial: Instead of having a wide cast of characters, and an emoy main character, just give the setting, give the conflict, and show off what the main character can do, and just have him resolve it after some difficulty.
Perfect movie plot! None of that contrived plot bull of every other V game movie!
well if you can't be original, you might as well go for some shock value. It's competing against Halo 3 for your dollars; what else are they supposed to do?
AND WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE THAT SAY CONTROLLING TIME AND SLOW-MO IS OVERUSED!
Can anyone even name over 10 fucking games of this generation that use slow-mo or time control, no you fucking can't, it's just something for you to bitch about. Seriously.
major cheese. Its not just the suit, you can tell its...something about the way the guy in the suit walks/moves that is all power-rangers-esque. If you put like the governator in or, or a hot chick, it would probably look awesome.
The demo felt constricting and scripted, the movement was sloppy and felt robotic, and the core shooting action felt unsatisfying when not in slo-mo(especially with the weakass machine gun).
I can say however that I had a blast messing around with slowing down and stopping time. Stopping time and putting 15 shotgun shells into some dude and watching him fly in a bloody mess was awesome; that or trying to go through the demo with minimal kills (stealing guns with time stop only), or using time slow to run past everyone.....the time control gameplay felt great.
Hopefully the devs will make the game feel less scripted and more satisfying when it comes out.
At the very least, i'll definately look for this game in the bargain bin.

i'm tired of these damn cut scenes...where's the gameplay footage?
Player1 @ Sep 5th 2007 10:04AM
That demo was so bad. I can't believe it was the second attempt at one. I have to wonder how bad the orginal PC demo was.
Osiris @ Sep 5th 2007 10:15AM
That was ridiculously cheesy.
The guy in the suit does not look cool.
Ryoga Vee @ Sep 5th 2007 4:59PM
He looks better than the first models we had at Atari
Vegnagun @ Sep 5th 2007 10:15AM
I've seen a lot of things but none are stranger than these mighty morphin timeshift rangers.

And their Time traveling Zords.

Save the blonde? WTF! I would have gone back and bought some shares in Google, or Apple or AOL when it was it was new...
ssuk @ Sep 5th 2007 10:48AM
The great thing is, you can do both! That's the great thing about time travel.
0ldb0y @ Sep 5th 2007 10:20AM
Am I the only one who thought it was pretty cool?
And the outfit is way better than that Power Ranger crap. Not that I watch the show or anything.
Really.
(Demo wasn't the bad, either...)
Youri Zoutman @ Sep 5th 2007 10:23AM
No, I though it was fun too.
Nothing special though, and probably not worth full price, but I'll definitely pick it up when I find it second hand.

Luckily I really like F.E.A.R.

If you can stop time, couldn't you stop the robbery without getting the store all wrecked up?

I liked the demo. Not enough to pay full price for the game mind you but enough that I will rent it and give it a solid playthru.
TimeScript be damned =P
