Black College Football Experience coming in November
Developer Nerjyzed (try saying it out loud) has licensed several conferences from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) including the SWAC, SIAC, and CIAA, adding up to around 40 teams. There are a few features listed on the game's official site that would help set it apart from the back, but we're most intrigued by the "Battle of the Bands," which allows you to "suit up, grip your baton and lead your band of musical maestros through intricate formations as the crowd roars in amazement." Y-e-s. Watch your back, Nick Cannon! The game is due on Nov. 23, but you can get a sneak peek when the game goes on tour ... at some point.

I wonder why there hasn't been news. And what does the black in Black college football mean? Does it mean they are going to play football in the Dark?
kip @ Sep 6th 2007 12:51PM
"And what does the black in Black college football mean?"
Umm.. seriously? Didn't you read the post? Minus-ing you for being a moron...

My nephew works for this company and is assisting in developing this game. I need to get a demo.
T. Holbrook Walker @ Sep 6th 2007 9:55AM
I grew up watching Alcorn State University's football team compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC, pronounced "swack"), so I was rudely surprised when I found out the all football wasn't the same as historically black college and university (HBCU) experience. I remember thinking while watching a big 10 football game, "Damn, that band can't dance at all!"
Anyway, assuming that the football is any good, it's nice to see the greater gaming community get a taste of culture to which they wouldn't normally be exposed. I generally don't play many football games, but if I can see those big legged dancers come out at halftime ... woo-whee!
Neon Jebus @ Sep 6th 2007 9:56AM
Do the bands show the half time score for the game? That is one of the cooler things they do in those shows. I love watching Battle of the Bands. One of my favorite parts of the Circle City Classic here in Indianapolis. Can't wait to hear more about this game. I hope they do it right.
samfish @ Sep 6th 2007 9:58AM

Actually “Rag doll Physics” is listed as a game feature…

@LAZoftheTamarinds,
LOL, playing football in the dark...
This game is clearly racist. Obviously, the game is all black football players. If you watch the trailer on the main site, you can see this.
Whats next, Hispanic College Football Experience or Asian College Football Experience...
I think this is a joke, its gotta be...
ill trooper @ Sep 6th 2007 10:12AM
Your assessment of "clearly rascist" is not really accurate here, as it's a game based on black colleges and the football divisions they are part of. I'm not trying to argue the over-all nature of whether or not that should be part of the integrated American race experience, simply pointing out that there is such a thing as a "historically black college."
So, no it's not likely 'next' to see the "Hispanic College Football Experience or Asian College Football Experience."
...All of this gleaned from SIMPLY READING THE POST! How about that?
Slvrgun @ Sep 6th 2007 10:51AM
Most professional football players are indeed Black or African American. Most collegiate football teams, have predominately African American players, and nearly every HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) has African American players. The same goes for the NBA, NCAA basketball, USA Track and Field, and NCAA Track and Field. You really have to face facts here: African Americans are practically the face of these sports inasmuch as Caucasians are the face of sports such as Hockey,Lacrosse, etc.
And if any of you knew anything about HBCUs or HBCU sports than you would know that they are open to all ethnicities. I am a Senior in Environmental Science at FAMU (#1 HBCU in the country, one of several top institutes in the Southeast (including traditionally white schools) in terms of scientific research papers, and we have the BEST band in the Land (Marching 100)). Our football team has several white players. Many of our programs such as our Pharmacy have diverse groups of people: Asians, Caucasians, Indians, Hispanics, etc.
And to whoever said this is "Edgy" stuff, please explain how it is edgy. Is it edgy because the word "Black" is in the title? Man, I tell you some of you get so paranoid when you see something that doesn't imply it being "white". This black experience is imbued into American Culture as a product of racism and segregation. The "Black" college is real just as much as "black" football. It (black colleges) are also a product of racism, segregation, and white paranoia and the need to educate black youths. Most of you would not understand this. So I say, I hope this is a good game that tastefully explores Black culture, and gives insight into teams and universities that don't usually get the spotlight like predominately white institutions (with mostly black players).
Crono @ Sep 6th 2007 11:46AM
"Southeast (including traditionally white schools) in terms of scientific research papers, and we have the BEST band in the Land (Marching 100))"
The Mighty Sound of the Southeast disagrees with your best band in the land assertment.
Yeah, I'm a band nerd. Yeah, Carolina Band rules.
Abscissa @ Sep 6th 2007 9:37PM
"And if any of you knew anything about HBCUs or HBCU sports than you would know that they are open to all ethnicities."
True. Which leads me to ask: So why is this being called "Black" Football?
Do you even realize how much bitching would (rightfully) occur if somebody made a sports game and named it something like "White College Football Experience" or "White College Hockey Experience"? People would be justifiably outraged at the blatant racism. And yet you're defending "Black College Football Experience" as being *not* racist?!?
Oh, I see, it's only racism when it's against blacks, right? Bigoted asshole.
Game Junkie @ Oct 11th 2007 5:42PM
It is funny how things always become racist when a minority race creates something that is not and has not been featured in the history of something majority white. It is no secret that there are no black colleges featured on ANY of the video games right now.
The experience of HBCU football is totally different than that of majority caucasian schools. The reason it is called black you nimrods is because it features schools that are "Historically Black Colleges and Universitie" or HBCUs. Hence the reason that it is calle dan experience. No other video games allow you to utilize the bands, the reason is because that is a major part of the HBCU football experience.
If a team has caucasian members, and they usually do then they will be included as players on the game. It is about the team, not the players indivually and the color.
tisha @ Nov 24th 2007 6:16PM
you prove that there are still very narrow minded people in the world. The game focuses on historically black colleges and universities. Therefore most of the players featured are black, however other nationalities attend these colleges and universities. These students are also in the bands, sports programs, sororities/fratenties, etc. Please open your eyes to the world in which you live!
RolexDPracer @ Sep 6th 2007 10:03AM
Interesting. I'm curious to see the :battle of the Bands" mode. One of the few things the EA NCAA game is missing is the annual Grambling vs. Southern classic. If the game is decent, I'd like to see 360/Wii/PS3 version.
jorojoserojas @ Sep 7th 2007 12:14AM
It's powered by Unreal Engine 3, so I would doubt a Wii version...
But imagine if you could drum using two Wiimotes! That would be worth the price of the game ALONE!!!
ill trooper @ Sep 6th 2007 10:03AM
Weird! Intriguing. But this is coming from a guy that watched 'drumline' a couple of times (once on a flight, couple of times on HBO). Love me some perididdles. Yeah you might have to google that if you don't know wtf that is.
Phi Nguyen @ Sep 6th 2007 4:25PM

*sighs*
where's a .50 cal when you need it
ill trooper @ Sep 6th 2007 10:30AM
That's a mildly alarming post... Are you talking about you need a '.50 caliber' for some Kurt Cobain-style action, or some Virginia Tech-style action? Of course you're joking...
...right?
Lemmiwinks @ Sep 6th 2007 5:58PM
ewe arr aye tule
Gimp @ Sep 6th 2007 10:04AM
Of course this calls for an "ALL WHITE" football game to be published!! doesnt it? oh wait we arent allowed to do that that would be wrong.....so the story goes. *sigh*
gamermonkey @ Sep 6th 2007 10:09AM
True. Double standards are a bitch...
ill trooper @ Sep 6th 2007 10:15AM
I really wish you guys would take the time to read more than the headline... You're taking this in the wrong direction.
Truepatriot @ Sep 6th 2007 10:19AM
man some of you can be dumb.
the colleges are predominantly black which they were forced to make because whites didnt want them in regular schools.i know its easy to claim its unfair but read some history on why these schools exist.
riggs @ Sep 6th 2007 10:40AM
this is an example of when someones username clearly represents them.
kip @ Sep 6th 2007 12:55PM
Weren't all the players in the original Tecmo Bowl white? And I think that was true of the original RBI Baseball too.
Abscissa @ Sep 6th 2007 9:47PM
"the colleges are predominantly black which they were forced to make because whites didnt want them in regular schools."
Which was how many decades ago?
Abscissa @ Sep 6th 2007 10:03PM
"i love how the white kids are complaining when it was your ancestors that forced blacks to create these colleges because you guys didnt want to mix with them"
My white northern ancestors risked their lives by going to war to help free the black people! And this is the thanks they get?!? Ungrateful fucks.
Additionally, even if I did have ancestors that were involved in oppressing any race, then you you fucking dare hold me accountable for what some dead son of a bitch did before I was even fucking born!
Abscissa @ Sep 6th 2007 10:07PM
Argh!! Dangit! First I miss the "Reply", then I end up replying to the wrong post. Sheesh...
WiNG @ Sep 6th 2007 10:06AM
I give up on video games. For serious.
Guybrush Threepwood @ Sep 6th 2007 10:09AM
Now there needs to be an all-white hockey game.
Oh wait.
gamermonkey @ Sep 6th 2007 10:14AM
Or they can make a
"Black Hockey Experience" game...
http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/hockey/artikel.php?ID=126279
Platinum_Skeet @ Sep 6th 2007 5:58PM
Bioshock didn't have one black person in it. No one complained. Most of every WWII or WWI game has all white people in it. No one complains? What if I come in and complain every time I play an FPS as a random Caucasian character and say the developers are racist.
GROW UP!
Because it's a game and it's recreating a theme/history. You guys are being so stupid because there can be an occasional Caucasian in the game but only if they're really on a team for the black college (highly unlikely). Just like finding a black guy that plays hockey. They're on the same page o.k?!?
So how about you shut up and stop talking about double standards.
Shogan @ Sep 6th 2007 10:11AM
I'd love to see them make a White College Football game. Just to see the reaction from people, the riots, Sharpton and Jackson going berzerk...
Even that stupid White Power car someone made in that racing game got massive outrage, but this is ok to put on store shelves. Isn't this supporting segregation? Where's the DIVERSITY!! :/
samfish @ Sep 6th 2007 10:22AM
Can you name me any White Colleges?
And no, Harvad and Yale don't count.
Shogan @ Sep 6th 2007 10:25AM
No I can't name any. White people ended segregation years ago. I guess not everyone did though.
samfish @ Sep 6th 2007 10:30AM
So that makes your post stupid.
squeevi @ Sep 6th 2007 2:32PM
White people ended segragation??? how about white people started it, and blacks ended it. the way you put it it sounds like segragation only ended because white people said it could.
3cubed minus 3squared plus1 @ Sep 6th 2007 2:36PM
haha thats funny.
I guess you're white then and you really don't know what it means to be segregated then, huh.
Its still happening in this day and age so STFU.
Platinum_Skeet @ Sep 6th 2007 6:06PM
It's not segregation because white people can go to the school, if they decide they want to go. Watch drumline I'm done. You see white people and black people at the school it's just more black people than white people.
If you read books or watch shows or movies about black colleges you'll know that white people don't get made fun of for going to the school. It's just people trying to learn. You guys being so narrow minded is what's making it seem segregated.
Especially since you can apply to an HBCU but you don't because "that's not the school you want to go to".
Another post ruined because of immature gamers...
Truepatriot @ Sep 6th 2007 10:12AM
lol i love how the white kids are complaining when it was your ancestors that forced blacks to create these colleges because you guys didnt want to mix with them XD.
anyone can go to a black college btw but really how many of you white kids wanna be know as the white guy on campus?its the reverse in mostly white schools o_o
/not black or white
Zoruon @ Sep 6th 2007 10:29AM
Hey asshole, Thier own race sold them to the "white man" so you have no one to blame but the black man for slavery.
samfish @ Sep 6th 2007 10:31AM
Well there's a new twist on history.
Truepatriot @ Sep 6th 2007 10:52AM
who was talking about slavery Zoruon?yup they did sell themselves too.but after all they were done selling themselves they were taken over too o_O
wtf is your point?
thats was way to many "they"
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 6th 2007 11:12AM
That last line of ZORUON's post was pretty ignorantly phrased(hell, the whole post was pretty damned sloppy and juvenile), but here's a correction for those with a bit more maturity than ZORUON.
"Yes, some black slaves were sold by blacks; but the majority were easily found to be white/caucasian. Blame can and should be placed upon both sides, as well as upon anyone involved in slave trade."
'nuff said.
Crono @ Sep 6th 2007 11:53AM
I think Zoruon was refering to the fact that most black slaves that were brought from africa were sold to the slave traders by other blacks, usually from rival tribes selling their captives.
This is a moot point for the post however, as Truepatriot is correct. I had the same kneejerk reaction of "racism", until I read the post and realized that this game is mirroring reality. Instead of a football game focusing on BCS type conferences, its focusing on the predominantly black school conferences. Schools created because black kids couldn't get into "white" schools of the time.
Abscissa @ Sep 6th 2007 10:11PM
"i love how the white kids are complaining when it was your ancestors that forced blacks to create these colleges because you guys didnt want to mix with them"

OnimushaSoki @ Sep 6th 2007 10:14AM
It would be cheaper to just disperse/publish a highlight reel of the bands than make a game about it. Or just offer a scholarship(yay, tax write-off)instead.
