F.E.A.R. 2 officially dubbed 'Project Origin'
And no, that's just "Project Origin," not "Pancake Robots Occupy Jamaica Every Century To Obtain Rapidly Ingested Gyration Inducing Narcotics." Monolith Productions told us it was all acronymed out, remember? Defeating the slightly less generic "Dead Echo" and the slightly more ambiguous "Dark Signal," "Project Origin" has been voted victor in the "Name Your Fear" contest. Expect to see the terrifying title transformed into a spooky logo and plastered across the paranormal first-person shooter's marketing campaign closer to its release in 2008.
On an unrelated note, is a game about fighting inebriated pancake robots in Jamaica too much to ask for? Let's make that happen, developers.

I don't even look at the author. I just know Ludwig's writing style now.
Joshua @ Sep 6th 2007 11:16PM
Whenever I read a Joystiq article that Ludwig wrote, I immediately recognize it within the first few words. It's so great...
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 6th 2007 8:38PM
I hate it. Generic Sci-Fi Title.
My entry was the best: Aphasia. Look the word up.
archie91s @ Sep 6th 2007 8:54PM
Horrible name;I voted dead echo because it sucked slightly less than the other choices even though they still all sucked. Aphasia does sound pretty cool, but I don't really know if it relates to the game. Never played FEAR.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 6th 2007 8:57PM
Aphasia is the loss of the ability to communicate. Think about it for a moment, and how it relates to the story.
Rein @ Sep 6th 2007 9:07PM
Aphasia is the loss of communication due to brain damage. I've never played fear, so I don't know if the characters are brain damaged or not.
StChristoph @ Sep 6th 2007 8:41PM
Terrible, terrible name.
Tom @ Sep 6th 2007 8:49PM
It's sad that they had to actually have a contest to come up with a such an unimaginitive name, that the developers couldn't rack their brains enough to produce such mediocrity themselves.
waves @ Sep 6th 2007 10:11PM
When you hold a vote for a name, you are always going to come up with a generic one. Of course they all kind of sucked to begin with.
Kazi @ Sep 6th 2007 9:02PM
Add project to it and it makes everything cool!
Project Paranormal, alliteration!
Project Origin, NEW ULTIMA ANNOUNCED!
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Sep 6th 2007 9:04PM
Don't really like the name of the new game, but happy there's a sequel. And is it just me or the girl on the cover looks like the one from "The Ring"
Kazi @ Sep 6th 2007 9:10PM
I'm sure Sadako had a lot of influence on the girl in FEAR.

F.E.A.R. 2 The Fearnening: Fierce Fighting Force Faction vs. Creepy Little Girl
LAZoftheTamarinds @ Sep 6th 2007 9:09PM
Dont really like the new name, but happy there's a sequel. Just to avoid confusion when released it should be named "Fear: Project Origin" So returning fans see then name Fear on it and know it's a sequel.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 6th 2007 9:43PM
Hey Ludwig - you must love the news I just submitted to you an hour ago - it's right up your alley.

They can't. They don't own the rights to the name F.E.A.R. anymore, hence the name contest.
Ska Oreo @ Sep 6th 2007 10:29PM
But there will be an official F.E.A.R 2 game.
Kyle @ Sep 6th 2007 11:11PM
I thought TERROR was a good name..
fffunfarm06---xbl @ Sep 6th 2007 11:39PM
???? sounds kinda like Criminal Origins, which by the way is made by the same developer. and looks and feels like the same game.
Einhanderkiller @ Sep 7th 2007 3:04AM
Personally, I would've gone with 'Snake Fist!'
Watch the Project Origin name nominations video on GameTrailers.
t_m @ Sep 7th 2007 9:12AM
Most generic name ever. At least FEAR was unique and memorable.
I don't really get why monolith is bothering to confuse all the gamers with a FEAR sequel that isn't called FEAR. I know about the legal cluster****, but most gamers aren't gonna know, and they are gonna buy the ones with the FEAR name, not the one with the MGSFNE.
(Most Generic Sci Fi Name Ever).
They make awesome games, so they should revive one of their classic franchises. (Shogo!!!).
PS/ Aphasia is indeed a much better name.
Phillip @ Sep 7th 2007 9:07AM
Project Origin + Project Offset = Project Result? Project Absolute?

PPS/ Stupid joystiq reply system... :-(
Sean @ Sep 7th 2007 11:18AM
FEAR was goooooood.
Benny @ Sep 7th 2007 5:10PM
Dead Echo was so much better. As was Aphasia.
Jonathon @ Sep 27th 2007 11:55AM
If you don't like the name, don't buy the game. Nobody cares. The game will still be a bestseller in 2008. Oh yeah, all the gamers I know expect project origin to be better than FEAR 2 coming out in October.
Katie @ Oct 20th 2007 6:03PM
I have a question... Is "Condemned 2: Bloodshot" coming out on PC?
I'm a huge fan of F.E.A.R and have to say I'm gonna miss the original title, I thought it was a great name for the game. I agree w/ other ppl also, it would probably be best if they put "F.E.A.R: Project Origin" so fans c its the sequel. Can't wait till it comes out though!!
