Sony has confirmed that the French will be getting a new "Starter Pack" for their PlayStation 3s starting Sept. 19 which will include Heavenly Sword and F1 Championship Edition. The rest of Europe can still take their Motorstorm, along with Resistance, and like it too! Speaking with GI.biz, Sony said, "The choice of which titles to include in the Starter Pack, and the freedom to change the titles is up to the individual markets based on their unique market conditions."
Sony went on to confirm that this new pack will be introduced in France for the time being and will be available for the Heavenly Sword launch. Actually, it would be hilarious if Sony America ever introduced the Starter Pack in the States and started offering games to "individual markets based on their unique market conditions." One state gets Motorstorm, while another gets Heavenly Sword. We'd love to see how those determinations would be made.

Not a bad bundle, but I'd rather they lower the price for a cor model.

So I guess the french prefer cars & girls while the other Europeans prefer monster trucks & Guns.

Wait, isn't Sony supposed to be trying to entice people to buy the console?
"Man I wanna buy a PS3, but its so expensive, if only they included a game with it to get me started...oh wait, they do...Heavenly Sword? I'll check out the reviews...."
"IGN...7.0, hmmm the official playstation magazine 7.0?!"
"ah fuck it, i'll get a 360 with gears and bioshock instead"

But it's Sony, so it sucks...I get it. Its a broken record with you people.

Why would I buy a system with two shooters, if I was looking for a game like Heavenly Sword. Just because a reviewer didn't like the game doesn't mean I want the games that he did like. If I don't like shooters, then I have no interest in Gears or Bioshock.

But that 40% stat has gotta be pure bullshit

That's only because we send all of our education money to the Iraq.
I think what they are referring to is that "Europe" is generally considered to be a market, with the same products distributed to each country (hence Nintendo of Europe instead of Nintendo of England). Giving a different product specifically to France would be comparable to selling Lair bundles only to Texas.
The word "market" really just refers to a region in which a product is sold. It can be a store, a city, a country, or a world market.

Most companies bundle older games.
I remember getting Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, and Daytona USA when I bought my Saturn. Good times.
It's nice when companies get desperate.

Lots of people must be having fun using the PS3 as their whipping boy. Poor PS3. : (
But hey, Nintendo did well with the NES and SNES and slumped with the N64 when they became arrogant and still decided to use cartridges but got back up again eventually. Sony's gotten arrogant over the PS1/PS2's success too.
Come on, its a beautiful cycle, rise again once more Sony and fall again Nintendo, please? Please?

I don't see this cycle. So far, Nintendo is the only one to have climbed back on top. Atari went away. Sega went away.
I think we need more data.

Yes, but SEGA never climbed to the top to begin with
the 16-bit Revolution was won by the SNES, but yes, this is the first time a loser has climbed back up to the top. It is interesting that the 6 gens have gone in 2 generation cycles of dominance. The Pong System and the 2600, the NES and SuperNES, the PS1 and PS2
more data is necessary, its hard to draw on anything with 6 complete samples (and a bunch of machines that are hard to place in any one generation, like the Atari 5200, the Sega CD, the Virtual Boy, and the Sega 32X)

I still wouldn't say that Nintendo has climbed back. They're selling a lot of units but so far it's empty hype. With the exception of Wiisports, metroid and one or two GC ports that got the controls right, their game lineup is complete trash. I've never been so pissed off with game purchases as I have been with Wii games. I'll admit, early on I bought into the hype.
Nintendo is in the rare position of actually making good profit on console sales, but they are still going to need healthy game sales to make it a long term viable console and I'm not convinced that they're going to get that. Once the hype wears off, which it has already started to do, can they survive on games with lower graphics quality and controls that still haven't met the expectations set by Wiisports?

A shitty overpriced console bundled with a shitty overhyped game.
What's next, Halo 3 or Mass Effect will come bundled with the Xbox 360. (Both games are overhyped shitfest as well)
The French are soooooooo lucky.
