Messenger Kit not delayed, we repeat, not delayed

There has been a half a dozen or so rumors floating around the internets as of late surrounding the release of the Xbox 360 Messenger Kit. The kit should have been available September 4th, but some are saying that they've received emails from online retailers stating the item has been pushed back into October while others say that they simply can't find them in stores. Well, it's our duty to find you answers and we went straight to the source ... Major Nelson.

Major confirmed with the Messenger Kit product manager that the product is not delayed, has shipped to retailers and is readily available. So, the September 4th release still stands. Though, you should know that hardware is treated a little differently than its software counterpart as peripherals are usually only shipped on the release date. As a result, such items like the Messenger Kit may not make it onto store shelves until a few days later. Happy Messenger Kit hunting!

I've blown more free time driving around town looking for this thing this week than I want to admit. This just sucks. Circuit City, Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart...nobody has it around here and I'm about tired of looking.

If it's truly out then I am having one hell of a time finding it. I've gone to GameStop, BestBuy, Wal-Mart, and Circuit City and have had no luck anywhere.

I don't need it RIGHT NOW! so it's not a big deal.

I ordered a Chatpad from www.game.co.uk (i'm in the uk obviously) and i got it on thursday (today) a day before the official release date.
My impressions so far - Its noticeable when its on and you cant really tell whether it adds weight to the controller or the pad always was quite heavy. The keys are very unresponsive imo but when it works its pretty good but not better than a conventional keyboard. I think because i'm quite a fast typer, i am not used to how hard you have to press the keys yet. So i'll probably get used to it. The headset is also a step back imo. The mute button is near the microphone so you have to take your hand off the controller to mute/unmute your mic.

If your thinking of buying one and you already have a USB keyboard that you can use comfortably, dont bother.

You guys should've just called all those stores b4 wasting your time! lol

No luck here in Toronto, either. I check my two local EBs, the Best Buy and the FutureShop. No dice.

I have mine paid for in full at my local EB and I just called them........THEY DON"T HAVE IT!!!!! Why?? This sucks!!!

i got mine yesterday (GAME UK).. it really is awesome. it doesnt alter the balance of the controller, you can type messages lightening quick, it has cool hotkeys and a great free headset with inline mute and volume controls..

oh.. and did i mention the backlit keys ? oooooh baby.. they are sweeeet.

GS/EB don't overnight accessories to their stores like they do games. This should explain why no one will be able to find this until next week.

OK, I am glad the MSFT has decided that is is out there...since none of us in the US can find it.

Didn't they also tell us there was no systematic problem with the Xbox 360 and the RRoD was an unusual occurance?

i needed a new headset so i just bought the chatpad. i got mine today. the weight/balance is not a problem. it's very convenient and i prefer using it to a keyboard.

I don't know what kind of uber customer service folks you have in all your stores in your area but I can tell you that if I call ANY of the retailers I listed the chances that someone knows what I am talking about will be next to NONE.

Have you guys seen this in Black? I have an Elite so I ain't buying a white one...

My local Best Buy didn't have it and when they checked their computer they said "It doesn't release until October."

Best Buy here in St. Louis has them on store shelves. I pre-ordered mine through Gamefly and they confirmed that it will definately be in tomorrow.

I dropped by my local futureshop on tuesday to see if i could pick it up, but they said the messenger kits were still in transit. Then I was going to preorder Halo 3, but i was in a rush and there were 3 other ppl in front of me at customer service. So I'll do both this Saturday when I get back home from school.

Thanks for confirming this, I just got back from gamestop and I was unable to reserve the kit since it has already shipped. I'll be at the store as soon as the UPS guy gets there at 10:45am, as the manager told me he was positive there were 2 kits in the shipment, woohoo!

I would think most places only got a couple of units in and probably sold out rather quick

they still don't have them at my local futureshop or bestbuy but I did see one at my local Microplay. Decided to wait a bit before i pick one up tho.

Just picked mine up (I'm in the UK) and it's fantastic. Finally I can use Messenger on 360 properly!

I work at Best Buy, and our inventory system definitely says 10/28. Not September 28, but OCTOBER. Our website says the same thing.

Major Nelson says "no delay", but we're supposedly getting it nearly 2 months after the initial launch.

Still says 4 On Order, too. Every store in the district.

Man... i've been wanting this since I saw the video on XBLM. Yet nobody has one in town.

Any chance that those dates wouldn't change until after the Distribution Centers would receive physical inventory? Seems that if every store is showing 'ship 4' that it could very well be a place holder.

Perhaps Inventory didn't get the updated release date which would mean they have yet to change the available release date?

I know problems like that can occur in any business...seems like this could be one of those cases.

Yup, Amazon told me it was delayed until Mid-October. I hope they are wrong, I've wanted one since first reading about it months ago.

Bestbuy in Canada confirmed that it has been released. Not sure why the US sku is out of date?

Mine should be waiting on my doorstep for me when I get home :)

Amazon also told me delayed until Mid-October. I hate to say it but Amazon is right more than they are wrong.

I work at Gamestop and we're FINALLY expected to get these in today at my store. I've been getting tons of phone calls for it. Also, is anyone else having trouble finding the Halo 3 headset. I actually had a customer Pre-Order it and it was supposed to hit stores on Wednesday. As of yesterday, we didn't have that come or on an invoice of today's incoming shipments.

I seen em hanging on the hooks in Walmart last nite (Sept 6) right next to the Halo 3 wireless mics. So I know for a fact that we got em in Nova Scotia, Canada.

These are out at best buy. Each store received at least 4 via drop shipment. (not from a DC)

I got it at my best buy. Only place that had it and only one left. Im thinkin there are going to be very very few places that have it till october when every other place gets it in

Man there are over a dozen Gamestop stores in Houston and NONE of them have the messenger kit STILL!!! :(

I got mine off of Buy.com!! And only paided 25.98 for it, with shipping!! And for ? # 15 no it is not a wireless headset!!

Just picked one up at the Strathmore, AB Wal-Mart.

i am none too pleased with microsoft now. they changed the messenger interface on the 360. now, to chat, you have to press Y to add text. i used to be able to use a usb keyboard, but no longer.. and why? this stupid chatpad thing - they're going to try and force me to buy it just so i can continue to use the convenient messenger option on the 360. that ticks me off

Our local Walmart's have all had them on display and avalible (as much as i've been there) non-stop since two days BEFORE the launch.

Guys try Walmart... They're already the unofficial Microsoft xbox360 service / repair / warranty center anyways.............

Oh, and buy a manly USB keyboard lol
