Variety is reporting that one helping of live-action Street Fighter just wasn't enough, Hollywood is going to try again. Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom have signed on Andrzej Bartkowiak to direct a new movie of Street Fighter ... but here's where it actually gets good. Variety says his credits include Romeo Must Die, Exit Wounds and Cradle to the Grave. What they fully neglect to mention is that Bartkowiak directed another video game-based movie: DOOM!
Yes, the man who directed DOOM is going to helm the new Street Fighter movie, which will apparently follow Chun Li on a "journey for justice." Can't you just feel The Darkness swelling up inside of you to stop this? The original Street Fighter movie starring Jean-Claude "muscles from Brussels" Van Damme earned $33 million. It also starred Raul Julia (Addams Family movies, Kiss of the Spider Woman) in one of his last roles ever -- that was the real tragedy. Hyde Park just finished a couple movies you will probably never hear of. Place your bets now if this Street Fighter movie will actually be worse than the original, which would seriously be an accomplishment.
[Thanks Ben]

http://imdb.com/name/nm0001840/
gettin a little old now though :/
I mean, I know taking into acount the cost of making the movie, marketing, distribution, etc. sure it could easily cost the studio a fortune if it didn't sell well.--but that's not what I'm asking.
Is it possible to actually make less than $0 once it is in the boxoffice/DVD? If you sell no DVD's and do not sell any movie tickets, essentially you make $0...but can you make less than $0?---I think with this movie, better than any other before it, my question will be answered.

Anyway I won't be surprised if this movie turns out worst than the Super Mario Bros Flick *shivers*

Also, keep in mind, during the time of the Street Fighter movie, majority of the story was still rather haphazardly thrown together (as evidenced as Malibu Comics tried desperately to spin a yarn from the series). By the time Udon got their shot at making the Street Fighter comic, Alpha had fleshed out so much of the story.
Love is a pretty strong word for such a pretty crap movie.
Go watch it again.
The last time you saw it you must have been 4 or 5.

You guessed it... games being turned into movies.

On hindsight, does Stranglehold counts as a sequel to a movie, a game based on a movie, or a game set in the same world as a movie? I'd think it's relevant here. (since it could count towards the number of movie-to-game situations which worked well)

The Following Takes Place Between 3PM and 4PM:
*Dhalsim has stretched his legs once more*
at 24 feet Ryu breaks in screaming:
*His balls are stretching out of place too, get Dr. Zangief in here STAT*
Zangief enters
*Commrade Dhalsim I will have to squish your balls back into place or you will die in 24 hours.....*
M. Bison secretly plans to overthrow India while this is happening. But it is up to Ken to stop him, along with his loyal sidekick E. "fatboy" Honda.

I don't think they've forgiven me to this day.
And if this leads to a sequel to "Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game", I officially quit video games.

Now I remember why I read Joystiq.
I didn't like Doom and I don't know if any of you like it but I didn’t. In fact I was surprised they had a Script for Doom, Last time I played Doom on the X360 there wasn't a plot unless you count the Text at the end of each Chapter.
The only movie based on a Videogame that I enjoyed was Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat Annihilation was horrible but MK:1 was absolutely brilliant. Well maybe not brilliant but it was truly great.

I've been waiting for a Street Fighter movie ever since i saw that last one with Jean Claude Van Dam as Colonel William Guile.
That movie was BADASS!
Now if this movie can at least reach Transformers level of awesomness I'll be VERY HAPPY. But they need to include all the important characters and not screw the history up...or the relationships. Or the freaking clothes.
Plus the plot has to be believable. And the graphics really good.

I don't think that'll work unless unless your marketing strictly to 16 yr olds.
Never underestimate the 16-year-old demographic. ^^
quote from IGN -
"Casting is not yet underway, but that hasn't stopped the rumor mill from turning out names like Jessica Biel (who is so not Asian, but who's getting caught up in particulars?) for the lead role."

Oh wait, no sorry this is Chun Li's story. So a spinning bird kick will become a cartwheel kick.
The original SF2 movie was entirely rubbish and I used to love it as a 5 year old. At least the anime had some form of plot!
As for the DOA movie at least it was eye candy.

That's why it was so shit, not enough good fights, too much 'America will save the world'.
I hope they use actors who can fight (and look like they're characters), or at least fighters who can act.
And I hope they pay attention to detail - remember, Ken is half Japanese and has reddish-blonde hair but black eyebrows.
They're better be loads of fight scenes, good ones, with projectiles and Alpha-esqe super moves.
What's this guys number? lemme call him...

How about finding the guys who made the SF: The Later Years films and give them $40 million to make a feature-length version... anyone with me?

Also, as someone said, there is a rumor that Jessica Biel will be Chun-li. If the rumor turns out to be real, then I guess Hollywood is resorting to yellow face unless they write Chun-li as an adopted child, white, or half asian.

Oh, I guess I was the only one. Anyways it was bad, but left open for a sequel. I am surprised no one has picked it up yet.
I would probably check this out on a DVD rental.

A - No main characters.
B - No Plot
C - No consistent setting

PS/ Nothing is ever gonna beat Mortal Kombat as the best video game movie of all time.

Now they're also planning a live-action Dragon Ball Z movie.
Why can't they understand that series like these are best animated.
