A poster on the 2K forums has stirred up a little Splicer's nest exposing what appears to be new hidden plasmids for BioShock. Showing a bunch of code from the PC version of BioShock -- and we know how reliable that can be -- he points to new plasmids waiting to be unlocked in "PlasmidPack1" at a later date. Four of the plasmids listed are Machine Buster, Vending Expert, Sonic Boom, Eve Saver, along with a bunch of other plasmid content.
Joystiq spoke with 2K and they delivered one of those delicious open-ended quotes that beg for wild speculation. 2K says, "Since 2K Games hasn't announced any downloadable content at this time, we have no comment." Where's Ken Levine for us to get a straight answer? Don't make us use the magic words 2K, if we want answers about more plasmids we know exactly the precise words to use! It'd be nice to get more plasmids (for free) as a little bonus down the road, but we'll be happy if those plasmids get saved for BioShock 2 and cut out just that small amount of time in development.

Great game, but I wished 3rd person view was an option.

If the new plasmids will have to be purchased as downloadable content, why did they put them on the disc?

They have to use all that space on DVD-9 somehow.

Yeah, Shag. It is pretty tough to fill up 9GB, isn't it?

Seems like it'd be pretty easy to hack and get it for free if it's already on the disc though. I'm not paying again for something I already bought.

Did you guys do the He-man caption because He-mans name is Adam?
Clever!
I am Adam. Prince of Eternia and keeper of the secrets of Castle Greyskull. This is Cringer... my fearless friend. Fabulous secret powers were revealed to me the day I held aloft my magic sword and said... By the power of Greyskull!

Not just He-Man, Hot Fuzz as well. That makes it a whole lot funnier.
"But he's NOT Judge Judy and Executioner!"
I love that movie. I can't wait for their next flick.

Didn't Major Nelson at one time say that MS had a policy that publishers couldn't place code on a shipping disc that they would then charge later to unlock?

You mean like having all versions of Vista on the same DVD and you can pay to upgrade your license to a more robust version with the same DVD?

Why isn't anyone here noticeably upset with 2K Games? I realize that I'm the only one in the gaming world that thought Bioshock wasn't that great of a game (yes, I did finish it,) and so I'm not as willing to cut them slack as others might. But this has to stop. This content appears to exist, in a completed, tested, launchworthy form, on every single copy of the game. People already paid for it! If this continues, one day you'll buy a full-priced FPS, only to discover that you need to pay to unlock any other weapons but your fists! At this rate, I don't even think that's a joke. I don't mind free games supported by ads, and I don't mind DLC where you actually download something that has been developed/refined after the launch of the game (later Oblivion downloads, Crackdown come to mind.) I also know that several other companies have done this deliberate ripping off of consumers in the past, and I know there was an uproar because of it. Have you all already just given up and given in?

i realize adding DLC to a game is supposed to help with the replay value. everyone is supposed to get all excited about new weapons, maps or missions and pull out that game they haven't played in a couple of months and enjoy it all over again.
this new DLC business plan every company seems to be adopting actually has me waiting to purchase games until after the "new" content is available. most of this content doesn't change the game play significantly enough to excite me about playing a game again so i might as well wait for the DLC and get the complete experience my first time through.
