Life is good for fans of massive fantasy worlds who haven't yet found time to see what the whole internet craze was about. Not only will
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year edition be released next week on 360 and PC, but next month you'll be able to buy a standalone disc containing the
Shivering Isles expansion along with the
Knights of the Nine DLC. The disc will retail for $29.99, a $10 savings over those who bought the packs through Xbox Live.
But take note of that "Storage Required" sticker on the box, you still need to have a hard drive for the expansions to live on. Those of you rocking the Core systems are unfortunately still out of luck.

So about how much storage will I need...? I've typically got a few gig (say 2-6) left on my 20g drive and don't really want to fill it to the brim...
McWeen @ Sep 6th 2007 11:07AM
I doubt that anyone dumb enough to buy the core system and not have purchased a hard drive by now wouldn't be interested in an expansion pack anyway.
Anonim @ Sep 6th 2007 5:42PM
I see MEMORY CARD on this picture.
So CORE users ARE OK.
EOT.

Can you install the expansion and sell the disc? It cant check for both original and expansion discs on boot up.
pha7e @ Sep 11th 2007 2:31AM
A similar point; am I going to be able to rent this for five bucks and get the complete content?
jtenma @ Sep 6th 2007 11:11AM
And so it begins...
xXFenixKnight13Xx @ Sep 6th 2007 11:14AM
Clearly this is for the few poor peeps who dont have or wish to have xbox live ok LOL!!! Now let them have their fun and shutty!!!
ShaggyB @ Sep 6th 2007 12:06PM
Umm Fenix..... There are lots of non-poor people who dont have highspeed access. The unfortunantly couldnt get SI or any of the dlc for oblivion. Calling all who dont use live poor is just plain arrogant and ignorant of the many factors for why someone wouldnt be able to make a FREE SILVER ACCOUNT AND DOWNLOAD SI.
If they bought a 360 and oblivion the chances are they arent poor. Perhaps they dont have high speed. perhaps they were waiting on a disc to have the content backed up on. Perhaps they just didnt want it yet and would more likely spend $30 to get $40 in dlc. Perhaps you should consider all the options before you blast people for being poor if they didnt have live or get this as dlc before.
I for one have SI already and would recommend Game of the year to all those who dont have oblivion. but this will be nice for those waiting for a disc copy of SI or just wanting the backup / printed materials. (I may waist some cash on it that way... lol wouldnt recommend to all but if you have the cash why not)
ssuk @ Sep 6th 2007 11:22AM
Oh... I was going to say "finally" if it was Oblivion Elderscrolls + the expansions on one disc. Would save you buying two games, but no... Just a disc with the add-ons. Well, bugger that.
LeChuck @ Sep 6th 2007 11:28AM
The Game of the Year edition they mentioned which is coming out at the same time is Oblivion and the expansions together. They're releasing this so people who already have the original won't have to repurchase it to get the packs on disc.
Sean @ Sep 6th 2007 11:22AM
People rock the core system?
brandon @ Sep 6th 2007 11:25AM
Actually, it looks like the Storage Required emblem has a memory card pictured, though I doubt one would work.
Jake @ Sep 6th 2007 11:38AM
This deal is more for people that don't follow the internet and know what and when everything is coming out. Some people still go to gamestop, scan the shelf, ask the clerk what's good, etc. Not all gamers are super geeks like us. It can be for people without high speed internet as well.
MariosInferno @ Sep 6th 2007 11:49AM
Sweet....
/realizes still only have Core...
F**K....
Ska Oreo @ Sep 6th 2007 2:19PM
You have a core?
You are a disgrace.
Kevin Sullivan @ Sep 6th 2007 12:01PM
Shivering Isles has been $29.99 since the day it was released. Retail copies of the PC version were selling for $18 the first day so this is in no way any kind of deal.
This should be coming out at $19.99 seeing as the expansion will be 6 months old at that point.
ShaggyB @ Sep 6th 2007 12:08PM
How are they protecting the content now? or are they even trying as its on game of the year edition and anyone who buys oblivion now would be foolish (unless you like the collectors edition) not to get that. Seems like the Halo 2 MapPack thing again
Austin @ Sep 6th 2007 12:20PM
Yes Mr. McElroy, Mr. Sullivan is right. Shivering Isles has been 2400 M$ points ($24) since it was out. The people who buy retail save nothing.
Austin @ Sep 6th 2007 12:21PM
^ opps, I meant 2400 M$ points ($30*)
Kevin Sullivan @ Sep 6th 2007 12:31PM
Actually, what McElroy said was right, since the original Shivering Isles didn't come with Knights of the Nine (which was $10). So if you had bought both packs you would've paid $40.
At this point Knights of the Nine should be free since it was included for free with the PS3 version and Shivering Isles on XBL is long overdue for a price drop so I still say $29.99 is overpriced. They should have thrown in all the other overpriced DLC as well, especially since this release is clearly targeted towards people without Xbox Live who couldn't get that content even if they wanted to pay for it.
Justin McElroy @ Sep 6th 2007 4:50PM
Boom-sha-ka-laka. Thanks for handling my light work, Kevin.
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 6th 2007 12:35PM
I'd prefer to have a disc than a download. Comfort in physicality.
Austin @ Sep 6th 2007 1:16PM
Oh yeah, that's right. Good call. My bad.
Sweet Tooth @ Sep 6th 2007 3:10PM
Justin failed to mention that The Game Of The Year Edition due this month will also be available on PlayStation 3 : http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/09/oblivion-game-of-the-year-edition-coming-in-september/.
Mr Slavio @ Sep 6th 2007 5:09PM
Thoroughly enjoyed both of these expansions. I still recommend waiting for the game of the year edition.
Wubbytoes @ Sep 7th 2007 2:29PM
Why didn't they just come out with a GOTY edition like Morrowind?
Morningstar @ Oct 7th 2007 1:18PM
I believe the knights of the nine expansion for the pc came with all the other dlc for the game, escept, of course, SI. So if the SI disc includes Knights of the nineshouldn't we also expect the other dlc?
