Gamespot reports that Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed to them the PS3 version of über-value The Orange Box will be delayed on PS3 by "a couple weeks." The PC and Xbox 360 versions will move forward with their Oct. 9 release. Wonder if those poor Valve employees still won't be able to play BioShock until the PS3 version is done too. Valve overlords, have a heart and let them play, everyone seems to be getting stuck on these delays -- for real, no joke.
Per the usual of all these PS3 delay announcements, Valve would not identify the reason for the delay, the game is being ported by EA. Lombardi also wouldn't talk about a specific date, he merely let the "couple weeks" quote float out there. Hopefully Sony can craft some message to explain these delays away, maybe it'll be the first memo by Karraker's replacment.

360 version is being developed at Valve but the PS3 is being done at the new EA studios in the UK, so it was very likely that PS3 version would be late, so Valve guys enjoy Bioshock in October, the EA guys not so much... or maybe they were playing it thus the delay :)

These delays are not helping Sony at all. People that purchase a console solely for an upcoming game will just about always go with what is available at the time.
Even if it is a pressing process Sony need to address the issue as Microsoft will constantly be getting a jump on the competition. Eventually some people that own a PS3 will purchase a 360 as games are being released sooner and and in some cases with superior framerates.

Thanks for another great PS3 bash, Joystiq!
I am sooo happy I gave up waiting for the PS3 to launch and bought a 360 in 2005. I love how this giant has fallen so hard, so fast. What an enjoyable travesty this is to watch unfold. Fall you arrogant Sony bastards, FALL!

I'm going to give you a tip since we have the same name - trade the ps3 in and get a 360. if you like games, that is. It's coming to 360 too. Plus theres more than a handful of 'decent' games for it. (not to mention a few blockbusters by the years end).
but you know, that's only if you actually got the thing for, ahem, gaming.

Oh phew. For a second I though you meant they delayed the PC version.
What exactly is the point of having Half Life 2 or Team Fortress 2 on a console if you can't get mods for it?

Being a Valve fanboy I find it scarier that they're still releasing the other versions on time.

I don't know why the 360 fanboys are trolling hard on this one.
It's not like they're getting the better version. The PC version is still the best one to get. 360 people will be stuck with a couple of maps for like over 6 months because Valve takes forever to release new content(Look at DOD:Source) while PC users gets to mess around in custom made maps and mods.
Guess the fanboys are blinded by pure hatred to fail to see their own shortcomings, and its not like they'll be playing it anyways with Halo 3 being 2 weeks in.

Or they don't care enough about that extra content to invest in upgrading their computers.

Eh, I enjoyed HL and HL2 and other maps/mods/releases for in on the PC, but I'm more stoked to have this on the 360 as I perfer console gaming. on my PC, I like playing casual games and the occasional Sims type of title. I think a lot of console gamers probably feel the same way about PC gaming. You might get a little more here and there in regards to user generated content and maps and such, but I just like the instant gratification of being able to pop the disc in and play. I don't have to worry if the graphics card I just bought six months ago will still be "good enough" or if the damn thing's going to be too much of a load on my processor.
I remember the good old days of PC gaming when the main requirement you needed was to have SVGA capabilities and a 486 DX chip and a soundblaster card. Now it's turned into this ridiculous soup up the whole system routine every year just so you can play the latest games without them sucking (Bioshock on PC is a goddamned nightmare compared to the 360 version and had I played it first, I would have wound up hating that game outright). If anything PC gaming is an elitist choice - and that's not a dig against PC gamers - if you can happily afford to keep everything running smoothly, more power to you.

I get what you guys are trying to say about not upgrading your PC's to play HL2 and all, but this is still the HL2 engine.
You don't need a killer PC rig to play it smoothly. If anything Valve has probably optimized the HL2 engine so more PC users can play it smoothly with many different specs.
And where did the idea of upgrading every year to play games comes from anyway?
I had one of my rig for over 6 years before I jumped onto the multicore band wagon.
But your right about how many people would rather have console and plug-in and play. I'm just jealous and a angry of what Xbox has done the the PC market in terms of FPS games. I seriously believe that Xbox has dumbed down FPS. I remember the good old days of Rainbow Six, when you get shot in the leg you would limp around. Now you can get shot 6 times, and all you have to do is stand behind a wall and wait 30 seconds and your good to go...
But I always have the RTS games so that's consolation.

OK, well perhaps souping up the whole system "every year" was an exaggeration on my part, BUT, I have certainly been in the situation where I'd buy a new graphics card - not the top of the line model, because I find dumping a few hundred bucks into a card is silly - but certainly a good one to play a game I really wanted, only to have another game come out a few months down the road and stating that the card I just bought that was just dandy for my other game was the "minimal required" for this newer title. That's the sort of frustration I'm talking about that I have experienced personally when playing new titles on the PC. I'm not saying all new games are guilty of this that come out in that format, but as I said Bioshock just limped along for me on the PC, and so I'm glad I got to enjoy the 360 version first as it's an amazing game and should be able to be enjoyed fully without being rendered gimpy because my graphics card is now not up to snuff for a title like that.
As I said, this is why I like console gaming more. I can pop the game in and enjoy it straightaway and not worry if my specs will be "good enough." If there's a patch, the 360 grabs it and play commences.

"the game is being ported by EA"
In other words, the ps3 version won't be worth buying if you have the choice between the two anyway. I know which one I have preordered on Amazon, and it has nothing to do with a delay.

It's pretty bad when I'm flipping through the pages of the newest EGM and see a Ghost Recon 2 ad for the PS3 that states "Now available on PS3" when it has been out on PC and 360 for months.
I mean, it seems that almost every game is being delayed on the PS3. What the hell is going on?
PS3 fan-boys are getting owned by their own console.
Ouch.

Impatience is for the unworthy and the foolish. Not a huge deal a person has to wait a couple weeks or even a couple months. Sony has been having problems with the blu ray discs. This blu ray disc is NOT going to make the orange box any better than the 360 version. Before you judge, wait until you see games specifically designed for the ps3,(killzone for example). I'm not claiming that microsoft or pc sucks, i'm simply stating i don't believe we have even seen sony's true potential. Enjoy your gaming experience, with whatever system you may utilize, but don't go around trying to manipulate others opinions with your ego filled propaganda. Keep it real, keep to yourself, and dont forget that different people have different tastes with different ideologies. For those who think differently, go fuck yourselves. GAMING ROCKS whether its Xbox, PC, Nintendo, or Playstation.

if the delay is truly due to blu-ray, I'd be willing to bet they're going to put all 5 games on one disc. which prompts a new menu screen to be developed which would put the release date back a "few weeks"

Let me tell the less informed as to why this is happening. EA are known for PATHETIC delayed ports, Valve opted not to develop the game in house and passed onto an unspecified team at EA to do, oh yeah, Gabe Newell is an ex Microsoft employee. Fancy that! And somehow this all happened. PS3 isnt hard to code for, look at COD4, the ps3 SHITS on the xbo if you care to read over the individual capablities of both. Microsoft are known for SHIT products, they always have been. On that note, thank god for Sony, Linux, Apple and all other makers of quality :D FCK M$
