If you were into heart-warming, somewhat-video-game related stores in August, you may remember 9-year-old Matty Lovo, the boy who saved his dad's life by taking control of a 100,000-pound truck after pops passed out. The kid thought, understandably, that his reward should be a PS3.
Sony apparently agrees. They rewarded Matty for his quick-thinking and (we assume) PlayStation 2-honed driving skills with a PS3 and a stack of games. It's a classy move from the company, especially considering all the free PR the kid brought them. (Just so you know, if Big Mutha Truckers was a PS3 game, this post would have ended with a hilarious joke. We're sorry for the inconvenience.)

If anyone is interested, the list of games were Kindgdom Hearts 2, Gran Turismo 4, God of War 2, Ratchet and Clank Up Your Arsenal, Metal Gear Solid 3, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Shadow of the Colossus, Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy XII, Okami. And who said the PS3 doesn't have any good games?

Wow, they threw Okami in there? That's kind of surprising.
Personally, I'd have left some of those games out as they aren't at all appropriate for a 9 year old, but it's actually great to see Sony throwing some support (for whatever little good it'll do at this point) behind Okami.
Such a shame hardly anyone bought it...

True look at the look the dads face. He just looks embarrassed about the fact that his kid wanted a PS3 after he got rescued...

What message is Sony sending out to kids who just let their parents die? Anyway, wasn't he in the truck, too? Sounds to me like he saved his own life.

Kids, risk your parent's lives, save them, and win a PS3.

Poor kid, 9 year olds don't really understand games yet. He will probably enjoy Lair. But at least when he's 19 he will still be enjoying an up to date, 10 year system.

I counted 10 games in that stack... $1100 for goodwill PR is good business. Just hope they dont mess it up by giving him an M rated game.

Uggh. Seriously if anyone thinks Sony is doing this to be nice, you are seriously naive. Sony wouldn't have done this if it didn't give them good publicity, which they desperately need, and it's just a business tactic to make themselves look like the good guy in all of this. Now I ain't saying Sony is the only one who will do this, I'm sure Microsoft and especially Nintendo would have done the same thing. This is a common business practice that every company does, has nothing to do with being nice and generous.

I know, that's why I said all company's do this. It's just a way for Sony to get their name on papers and get some good pubicity. I mean if Sony was doing this to be nice, there are kids who deserve a free ps3 much more than this kid.

How many of said kids actually ask for a PS3, though?

Whether or not they did it to be nice doesn't matter. It was still a nice thing to do, even if it was just for publicity.
$1,000 of gaming (including the games) is a pretty sweet reward for saving someone's life.

He may not have Big Mutha Truckers, but at least he'll have Lair in case his dad ever passes out while their riding their dragon.

So is this the only way they can get people to pick up PS3's these days? By giving them away?

the kid said he wanted a PS3 and Sony deliverd. Good PR? of course.
i'm sure if the kid said he wanted a 360, M$ would have delivered as well.

This isn't a donation, it's a business decision. Seriously, they figured since the PS3 wouldn't sell anyways, they'd save money in the long run by vacating the shelf space to make room for more PS2s.
..nah. That was nice of them. Unlike cold heartless Nintendo that makes nursing homes purchase the Wii.

It's a 9 year old he really didn't do this so he could get a PS3 but you ask a little kid what they want as a reward and you will get some cute request for things they want.

Thats right, because the second a person undertakes a lead position in a corporation like Sony they immediately lose all soul they have and become a heartless demon. That... is the correct interpretation of your logic, right?

Actually this is one smart lad, Think about it, if you could get any console as a reward why not the most expensive one?
Yet I wonder what other things he could get instead maybe a Big Ass bravia but I guess it wouldn't be as fun as a PS3.
Really this kind of stuff is motivating, I feel like fighting injustice today.

Great driving skills kid!!
Bad taste in gaming consoles!
Oh well, maybe MS will give you a 360 when you need to save yourself from boredom on the PS3.
