By merit of the attached Halo 3 beta, the success of Realtime Worlds' Crackdown was none too surprising. However, the critical acclaim and overall quality of the title turned more than a few heads. Any Business 101 textbook would tell you that the best move would be to release a sequel. Alas, it's not meant to be.
Speaking at an Industry All Stars event (via Develop Magazine), producer Phil Wilson said that there is no sequel "Microsoft were a little late in stepping up to the plate to ask for Crackdown 2," he said, "and by then we had already started working on bigger, better things." Those bigger and better things are a cops-and-robbers themed MMO due out next year entitled All Points Bulletin (APB) and an undisclosed project for release in 2009.
APB will reportedly focus on customizable characters and vehicles; given the descriptors, we wonder how much of Crackdown's spirit (and re-used assets) will be the online game.

I know what you said... This is a great game, and much could be added in a sequel. With all the nonsense that gets made, and then inexplicably gets sequels, I find it hard to believe this is the last we've heard of Crackdown.

A cops and robbers mmorpg is cool...
But I still need the orbs...
A sequel isn't nixed though they aren't working on it right now and from the sounds of it. They'll work on one after the next projects done. So it'll be a launch title for the XBOX 9000...

The orbs,Hehehe.
I never got them all; it was such a tedious task even with the maps I got from the internet. After 15 minutes looking for orbs I immediately switched to Gears of War, Dead Rising or Forza 2.Seriously it was boring in fact I only need 7 agility orbs and 100 hidden orbs but is so boring.
If you search the orbs with the crimes turn on the game become incredibly frustrating, I was about to get a hidden orb but suddenly a bunch of Shi-Gen soldiers shot me down, and killing them all only make more Shi-Gen soldiers spawn.
If you turn off the crimes you could search for the orbs in peace but it was boring.
Also that Pro street stuff was also boring; just get the Agency Super car and shot everyone down, Rinse and repeat.

That’s a shame but don’t worry we will see Crackdown 2 when MS needs a vehicle to promote Halo 4 :P
The game had potential. The thing with crackdown is that it felt unfinished and there are so many things that they could improve such as Local Co-op, Story mode etc etc.

I thought the sequel was called Infamous...
...or is Infamous just a blatant copy?

God, crackdown sucked so hard it hurt, and I rented it (meaning I didn't find it curiously attached to my halo 3 beta, I actually went out and payed money specifically to play it.)
Like a mix between GTA and City of Heroes, only without the character customization, and multiplayer aspect, and varying mission objectives, and interesting landscapes, and challenging gameplay, and replay value beyond the first mission, and fun, and (continues listing until people stop listening.)

APB? I heard about it AT LEAST a year before the Xbox360 was even announced! How can they claim that they decided to make that game when Microsoft never contacted them about CD2?

Hopefully non of the assets will be used. Because Crackdown looked like a crack whore of a game. In other words........ FUGLY!!

More DLC? No thanks. No more microtransactions, and no more "free" content packs that more serve to advertise the features of the to-pay content pack (Why include zones for rocket tag if I don't have the pack, or show vehicles/weapons in that pack?) than for, well, being a "free" pack.

The design of everything was ugly. The characters looked like gay raver bikers for god sake.

Dang. This makes me very, very, very, very sad. I was just telling somebody a few days ago -- if Crackdown 2 came out right now I would absolutely buy it. Crackdown was the most fun I have had in video games in years or ever. I love BioShock (960/1000 and working on the last 40) but getting (1000/1000) at Crackdown was an absolute blast. I am so sad.

I've been waiting over a year to hear more about APB. Good to know they're still working on it at least.

According to the interview in the Consolevania Fluff Piece on the Scottish games industry (which is awesome by the way :)) they have 3 games in development, APB, the 2009 title and Crackdown 2 :/

I, for one, really enjoyed the first one. The only reason that I didn't finish everything is because my 360 likes to read every 360 game as a DVD... I really need to get that fixed...
Anyway, I am upset and dismayed by this announcement. *ahem* This is blasphemy. This is madness. etc...
