Podcast Rodeo for Sept. 9: Ear 1

EGM Live: With little fanfare, EGM Live has gone from a little brother of 1UP Yours to a really entertaining listen in its own right. Instead of a long show, they've switched to a more broken up format, with each episode containing a series of features. Just this week, for example, you'll hear Factor 5 defending Lair from critics and hear from a couple of moms who Nintendo is targeting to spread the Wii message for them.
Video Game Jocks: Arrgh! We're angry at the VGJs. The idea of using Kanye West's new song "Stronger" as an intro is so good that we wish we'd thought of it. Ah well, we're going to rise above and recommend that you go listen to all the talk of Halo, Halloween and (war)Hawk that you can handle.
Joystiq Podcast: "How can I be on the Joystiq Podcast?", you wonder aloud to no one in particular. This week, you'll find out the answer: Invest in a boat (or hydrofoil) that can reach the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Also discussed: Alternate names for the bathroom.
1UP Show: We're linking to 1UP Yours this week, but it's 8/31 you need to be listening to. We meant to hit it last week and just couldn't pass up mentioning it. The original 1UP Yours four hosts reunited for a special show at PAX. If you're not a fan, this will mean nada. If you're a listener though, it's an entertaining trip down the (admittedly kind of short) podcast memory lane.
OK, we're done. Comments ahoy!

Where's the CAGcast? CAGcast Foreplay?
Matthew Watts @ Sep 9th 2007 11:05AM
Why can't we just have a normal password here? How dumb is this...
Anyway, I love 1UpYours and EGM. It's great to hear the voices behind EGM's articles every month. I'd also put The Hotspot by Gamespot at number 3. Kanye West sucks, I'm surprised anyone likes him.
Anti HipHop @ Sep 9th 2007 11:33AM
Agreed - Kayne West is a crybaby and his music is boring. I can't understand why people like him either.
I guess people enjoy listening to bad music or samples of good music used to create bad music. Because all he does is sample, just like P Diddy did back in 1997, 1998 and 1999,etc.

You changed your avatar picture but didn't see the change password option?

I like Kanye West. I'm not surprised to see posts about how "he sucks" however as any time someone other than Master Chief is mentioned, the comments section goes into a death spiral about emo. Or "rap sucks now." Anyway, did I mention I like Kanye West?
Almack64 @ Sep 11th 2007 10:59AM
I have to say (very late to this conversation) but I actually really like Kanye West. He's one of the few rappers that actually has stories and real commentary in his raps. That's what rapping used to be about but it has been lost to today's rims, ice and a$$.
Paul @ Sep 9th 2007 11:36AM
Hey Joystiq,
Thanks for adding into the Rodeo for this week.
You should be angry. That is a great song to have as an intro.
-Paul, Video Game Jocks Host Extraordinaire
PS - In regards to the "Kanye sucks" comment above. Listen to the two albums (which I have). Kanye's is far better and 50 Cent will not outsell Kanye this week.
Forest @ Sep 9th 2007 12:02PM
you guys really needed this weeks GFW radio, the heroes of the web about master chief being a virgin was classic
jorojoserojas @ Sep 9th 2007 12:30PM
I'm not really a fan of rap music (I think it's golden age passed with 2Pac and B.I.G.), but I must say, Kanye West has yet to release a single bad album. I've yet to be disappointed; his stuff is adored by critics as well.
blooh @ Sep 9th 2007 1:29PM
i only ever played dreamcast for about 5 minutes, in the mall gamestop
Yeah8a8y @ Sep 9th 2007 1:58PM
Surely you mean Kanye's so-similar-it's-a-blatent-rip-off of the excellent Daft Punk "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger"
blooh @ Sep 9th 2007 2:01PM
you mean the song that takes "faster harder" and just sings shitty rap lyrics at the same time? ugh
ill trooper @ Sep 9th 2007 4:51PM
Jeezus... I just saw Daft Punk play live, I'm planning on buying Kanye and 50's albums on Tuesday, I have tix for M.I.A. later this month and I just re-purchased a Ramones album I lost long ago. Open up and enjoy things a little more.
The Kanye West song is listed as 'Featuring Daft Punk' on the album pre-release and it's a sample they approved and will profit from - in fact they co-star in the video, sporting full robot-regalia. As for "Anti Hip Hop's" comment: Of all the talent-deficient people to complain about (Korn, T. Pain, Nickelback, for instance) you decide to say Kanye West samples like Puff Daddy? You lose all credibility asserting that; it's just inaccurate. He's one of the GOOD guys, stop shootin'!
I swear, kids have a meltdown whenever their favorite artists work with people they hate. Maybe that should be a clue to you that you might be judging too quickly: Daft Punk likes Kanye West enough to clear the sample usage and show up and be in the video. As you get older you lighten up and have wider tastes, and you don't take it so seriously.
Meh. I know I'm wasting my time, don't even bother hating on me, just consider me the old grump that hates to see you miss out on different experiences.

Why not have chatterbox? It's right up there with my favorites, The Joystiq Podcast and the penny-arcade podcast, but penny-arcade only just had they're first episode in a while.
RB @ Sep 9th 2007 10:09PM
Well, I get the reference to the fantastic Sports Anomoly podcast. Yak yak yak yak yak yak!!!!
Ryan P. @ Sep 10th 2007 3:44AM
There's a difference between sampling a song and just playing the WHOLE corus and singing over it. I don't doubt Daft Punk signed off on it cause they'll get royalties from radio play.
The hypocrisy is that he acts like he's such a huge genius but then he goes and coasts on a sample like a crutch . If he was so great he wouldn't have to. Even if he's put out good stuff before he just takes himself so seriously that the second he looks like a poseur everyone 's gonna call him on it.
So. Off. Topic.

Yeah8a8y @ Sep 10th 2007 5:49AM
Exactly... Daft Punk, unlike there name, are not daft... They realise the track will sell well and obviously the little change there is should mean the majority of royalities go there way.

Oh man, I cannot be the only one who feels the EGM podcats is worse now that they tape it is segments. It takes MORE work to edit and pices together a show in segments, but they seems to give it less effort. The whole show sounds disjointed and they even flub the continuity because they cannot be bothered to create interstitial segways.
