In a new interview with Ain't It Cool News, Roger Avary – the recently announced writer/director of the Return to Castle Wolfenstein Oscar contender – talks about the process of adapting a video game to the big screen ("it's a bit of an uphill climb"), the character of BJ Blazkowicz ("he is not racist or an anti-Semite"), and casting the role ("all one needs to do is look at the box art on the Return to Castle Wolfenstein game and you can see who I see in my mind for the role.")
Well, we looked at that box art and, unless they're casting a lapel pin in the role of Nazi-killing machine BJ Blazkowicz, we'll assume he means the RtCW: Tides of War box art pictured above. Nevertheless, we're having a tough time seeing precisely who Avary has in mind. We've crossed our eyes; stood away from the screen; nothing. Maybe generi-tough guy Jason Statham? Or sensitive tough guy Ben Affleck? Our vote is for aging tough guy, Bruce Willis. He practically has Nazi-killer written all over him.

It's probably going to be a mindless action film where hundreds of "villains" die. No questions will be asked about the motivation of the nameless minions who are going to die. Were they forced? Do they have loved ones? No. Kill 'em all.

I would rather NOT know about the characters getting killed. It makes watching these movies psychologically bearable and entertaining. If you'd prefer movie deaths to give you deep, psychological scars, watch something like Munich or Schindler's List instead.

Late 70's all through the mid 80's...
Jaws, Close Encounters, Star Wars, Empire, Indiana Jones, Back To The Future, ET....
All these movies were original and were good. Hollyweird just gave up on creativity because they would rather make a quick buck on something that's already been established. I can understand, it's business, but creativity is just dead in that environment.

Hey Nimble:
Does "Wolfenstein" sound Japanese to you? If you really want to complain about civillian deaths in time of war, you'd have brought up Dresden, but then it's clear you have neither thought deeply about the ethics of war nor read much history if you think "hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians" refers to something in particular.

And here I thought you would yell at me for using "their" instead of the "they're."
But anyway, please explain how my statement does not refer to anything in particular. Please.

Or maybe Michael Bay is an atrocious director compared to Steven Spielberg, and "Pearl Harbor" was one of the worst war movies of all time? Just a guess...

Btw there is an another reason why I hate action films. They seek to make all the enemy "evil". 19m German men fought in the war. 2m of them in the Waffen-SS and the rest fought in the German Army. So it's hard for a rational human being can say they were all evil. I mean America did break international law when it invaded Iraq. But who wants to see a game where American soldiers are killed? The sad fact of life is. The very people who die (soldiers and civilians) are the ones who don't deserve it. While the people who do deserve to die (politicians) stay at home in comfort while soldiers are fighting for them.
