The M33 team has done it again. The PSP Slim can now run M33's 3.60 custom firmware. The new firmware has "all the features of 3.52 M33, except the 1.50 kernel support". This means that some homebrew that was developed specifically for 1.50 (e.g. homebrew games that would go into the GAME150 folder) will not work with the custom firmware.
The installation is complex, requiring a Pandora Battery and Pandora memory stick, a non-Slim PSP with firmware 1.50 or custom firmware that supports 1.50 kernel, and of course, a PSP-2000. As always, this is not for the faint of heart nor anyone who hates carefully reading and following instructions, as there is always a possibility of bricking your brand new PSP-2000. As such, use at your own risk. Full instructions for the installation can be found here.
Download M33's custom 3.60 firmware here (scroll down to the bottom of the first post).

Q: is M33 gonna make a 3.60 cfw for the fat psp's?
A: The firmware as it is flashed in the slim psp's is only for psp slims. Whenever sony releases
an updater, we'll support both, fat and slim psp's, but we are not gonna make a custom firmware
using 3.60 slim dump, because it is not done for the fat psp. Stop listening stupid rumors of kids:
we are 103% sure that Sony will continue releasing firmware updates for all psp's.
Moreover, the 3.60 firmware was done before 3.52: the pops, for example, is a clone of the one of 3.50/3.51
So it has nothing new for fat psp's.

Ironically, by blocking the 1.50 kernel through hardware, Sony has made sure that hacked Slim PSPs will only make use of the CFW features that harm software sales the most: ripped PS1 games and UMD ISOs.
Most original homebrew has always been based on 1.50 kernel code. Hopefully, most of it can be ported again soon enough.

I guess this is confirmation that PSP Fanboy is now encouraging the Homebrew scene.
Too bad.

Eh, file this one under the personal I dont care department. Got my slim for official fw and my old on on cfw for ps1 games.
#7. No chance he is really is. Team m33 is russian and dont speak english, and I highly doubt they read this site much less comment.
#3: Quit trying to act like a homebrew team when your obviously not. Its one thing to take anothers screen name like I did wit my boi kingofwale but to act like your a big shot hb developer oversteps the line. You should issue an apology to team m33. Jeez thats almost as bad as the guy who started a site and claimed to be dark alex

Kspraydad, this site has always reported the on major things from the homebrew scene, but they are not encouraging people to do go CFW.
This sites stance on CFW has been "do it at your on risk" kind of policy, this is not encouraging people to do it. People that want to do it can do it, and people that don't want to go CFW can stay at OFW. It isn't like by reporting on the scene, the site pressures people into going CFW.
What do you want them to do? Pretend like homebrew doesn't exist(like IGN and Kotaku)?

I for one am glad of all the news, official, homebrew, sales or whatever. I don't care who bitches or whines homebrew and it's multitude of uses has been respoonsible for selling a tons psp's on this point alone.

To #'s 5 and 7, alot of homebrew actually does work. Also, ISO loading is built right into the firmware, so kernel 1.50 and some homebrew not working has nothing to do with that feature. So yes, ISO loading works right away and even supports playing on TV using component cables!!!

Sony should really get some gamers in for a survey and ask them what would get them to buy a PSP over say a Nintendo DS. Then MAYBE the marketing department would get a clue!!! The first PSP commercials were great! They showed pictures, video, gaming on the go. The PSP's versatility is really its best feature! If they marketed THAT, instead of coked-up models touching eachother or racial ads maybe they would catch up to the DS.
Oh yeah, and more games which are exclusive PSP IP's instead of just PS2 ports which do horribly on a portable system with less controls.

@ PSP Amigo.
I'm not talking about this past year.
I was talking about bringing a product to market during it's initial year or two and the marketing of that product.
Hopefully this trend of great PSP games continues and Sony does a better job with the marketing this second time around. However, I doubt it with the initial PSP slim adverts comming out of Japan. I think they're doing a horrible job selling the machine, which in turn gives little motivation for developers to create unique and distinct games. Yes, God of War, Siphon Filter, Killzone: Liberation, Outrun2 Coast2Coast, Loco Roco, Lumines, MGS:PO and some others are some great gems in the library, but what percentage of games like that are there out of the total library in the time the PSP has been out. How many of these would make you get a PSP over a NDS if you were a new buyer without any handheld system? Sony definately is tooting it's own horn about all the capabilities of the system, which definately sets it apart. I know, I have 2.
There's just alot of wasted potential (read: sales) that in my opinion is directly Sony Marketing's fault. Obviously a developer is going to create IP's for the more marketable systems.
