New games this week: Heavenly Sword edition

With Warhawk two weeks ago and Heavenly Sword this week, the PlayStation 3 is finally starting to pick up some real momentum on the release calendar. The 360 isn't slouching this week though, with SKATE and the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Would Have Been a Better Deal For Under $60) Game of the Year edition. On the portable front, there's Jam Sessions on DS. The PSP is continuing its stellar, earth-shattering relaunch last week with no new games this week. There's a full list after the break.

????? is finally getting some recognition. I've waited almost a fucking year for it to come to the virtual console. I'm guessing it'll be priced as all that console's games are?

The thing is, the developer for "????" didn't do "?????" and they changed the multiplayer dynamic to third person. Either way, I'm still buying it.

I thought ????? was coming to PSP this week.

Ive heard that ?????? had been in development for 3 years, thats not long considering the quality of the game. This game looks awesome anyway though.

The thing that annoys me about ???? are the rabid fanboys claiming it's better than !!!!². >:\ I mean c'mon, it doesn't even have downloadable content or ####'s numerous multiplayer modes. Don't believe the hype.

My list right now is: Heavenly Sword, the new PSP (Tough I've the old one) and of course Silent Hill Origins (I want this game so badly).

I think I need a new PSP also, Ive had mine since launch and its aging......badly.

DRAWN TO LIFE! Finally! This has been one of my most anticipated games (no joke)

Does anyone know what is so special about the Oblivion Game of the Year Edition?

How amazing it is what you can fit on a DVD-9?

It has the Knights of Nine and Shivering Isles with the game. Otherwise those expansions need to be purchase separately. Just an FYI it is also available for the PS3 this week too, its nice how they forgot to mention that.

It's it cheaper, too? When it was originally announced I remember reports of it being $10 cheaper ($40 for PC, $50 for consoles). I'm looking around and that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Pitty, I was thinking of picking that up. Looks like Jam Sessions (and possible Kengo) will be getting my $$$ this week.

I have a really hard time paying $60 for a game that I don't already know I'll love. Now if Gamefly would only send me the games that game out in the last 6 months.

Err...I own the originals on TG16. And I must say I really enjoyed both of them. Many of great hours...could I play them in this day in age...eh maybe.

I'm confused - what is/were the release dates for the PSP-slim? I know the silver pack came out randomly last week and the black was supposed to come out tomorrow I thought. Now I see dates for the black online (Amazon) as the 24th, the EB guy last night said "tomorrow" and BestBuy guy last night said "in a couple weeks." What gives?

I really hope no one is complaining about the price of Oblivion GOTY edition. Bethesdah announced on their site that Oblivion regular would go to the $29.99 classic hits titles. And to top that off the Shivering Isles/Knights of the Nine DLC content would be packaged on a disk for $29.99 in october. (sounded like along side the Platinum Hits version of Oblivion) That equals a total of $59.98 if you buy it that way. Eitherway you get a great game and its Recent add on for $59.99 (or $59.98). SO thats a 3 month old 30 hour/$30 expansion + 6 month old 10 hour/$10 one, along with a 1.5 year old near 80 hour/$60 game all for the low price of $60.....

The only complaint id have would be that all the other dlc is not on the GOTY edition disc nor is it on the Shivering Isles disc. Thats the one mess up they made (Horse Armor, Wizards Tower, Orrery, Thieves Den, Mehrunes' Razor, Vile Lair and Spell Tomes should have all been on the GOTY disc and the SI disc)

I'm so stoked to get my hands on SKATE. I hope I get a free t-shirt tomorrow with the pre-order :X

PS3 picking up some real momentum? An 81% on gamerankings for a game with such ridiculous hype as Heavenly Sword is a disappointment. PS3 fans have been hyping this game as THE killer app this year. Lair at 58% isn't helping things either. There is still no compelling reason to buy a PS3.

Even Warhawk isn't that spectacular and the only reason its getting so much attention is cuz they fanboys are desperate for SOMETHING to play with.

What? Do you expect them to just not hype any games at all? Console makers hype the best exclusive games coming at the time.

Heavenly and Warhawk are good fun games from what I hear and from the demos I've played. The most disappointing thing about Heavenly for me is that at 7 hours with little to no replay value I don't know how you pay $60 for it.

Skate received a good review from IGN. I'm going to play the demo and maybe rent it sometime.

Though I could care less for Heavenly Swords' premise, an 81% doesn't seem like something to attack. I haven’t heard anyone say it sucks.

If you are in the Sony attack mood, and really, who isn't, lets talk about the disinterest the company shows in its own new psp model. Thats pretty weak.

I haven't played HS beyond the demo, but Warhawk is very good. It's the best Battlefield type game on consoles, IMO. The game's a blast with 32-players.

Wow, you must be really enjoying your PS3. From the way that you are talking about it, you must own one and have played the games you are so passionately bashing. :)

I don't think there will ever be a bad Ratchet and Clank game. Insomniac isn't gonna ef up that franchise and seeing as to how to how all the previous games have gotten stellar reviews, i find it near impossible for hype to get the best of it.

Not saying it wouldn't be hilarious if it did suck...cuz it would be.

Hey now, we can atleast say the games have some bad ass.. box-art. No seriously Heavenly Swords box art is freakin hot, and Rachet & Clanks' box art is perfect. To bad Halo's, Orange Box's, and Mass Effect's box-art blows or is generic, but it's whats on the inside that counts.

PS3 - We are like the steak dinner, over cooked and over priced.

Xbox 360 - We may be ugly but we'll kick your ass.

yes. heavenly swords box art is bad ass. i'm glad it's a 6-7 hour game with no replay value though. i needed *something* to talk shit about.

screw heavenly sword, it should be the "skate" edition, the reviews for skate have been pretty damn good (90% on gamerankings) compared to the weak heavenly sword reviews (81% on gamerankings)

I'm buying skate for my lil brother. He floved the demo and can't stop begging me to buy it for him. So as soon as I get my 360 back at home I'm heading out to get it for him.

Its easier to put $10 a week down on a game this way. It's much easier to hide $10 a week from the wife than a whole $60 come time to get the game. I bought the PS3 back in March with my tax return. It's only a setback if you don't enjoy any of the current game offering on the PS3, which I don't have any problems with. Heavenly Sword will be my 7th title owned.

Hey Matt, well said and well defended against the fanboy. Simple people like Vinny don't understand what TCO really is and if he/she did, they would not have posted their comment and made themselves look like an idiot.

The PS3 upfront cost is heavy for a lot of people who don't make a lot of money. The 360 is cheaper at the beginning but like a lemon of a car, will cost you a hell of a lot more over the course of 3-4 years.

Why do 360 games consistently get better reviews than PS3 games? Lair, Motorstorm, Heavenly, Warhawk, and Resistance are all decent (except Lair). But why can't PS3 exclusive devs get the game quality up to 360 level?

Seriously. Is it about the tools available on each platform, funds from MS, install base, time to market, or just plain luck?

It is weird that buying the "surf n' turf" of consoles gets you they "macarroni n' cheese" of games.

That's a good question. I mean they had a whole extra year in the oven to get it right, and now a year later than that, you can count the PS3 "Must Haves" on one hand.

I guess that's why they've got that 10 year lifespan plan in place...
