That's one series I won't be participating in... Maybe when Bioshock gets to the bargain bin i'll pick it up.

Sorry to bring Halo 3 into this, but Halo 3 will demolish the sales record. The demo record no, because they aren't going to have a demo...

The story wrapped itself up nicely and I couldnt see having to force scenerios for a sequel to make for an enjoyable game.

Now, the story of Ryan struggling to find a place within the structure of mans law, the whole; no king shall reign over me living for true liberty attitude, that's something I've been struggling with and pulling for since I was 5 years old.

To me that's an interesting story but I cant say that would create a good game. In fact, I bet it wouldnt.

I don't know if they would be able to keep that special something that makes this game so great if they did that. I've really enjoyed BioShock though, so glad they release a demo because I wa not planning on buying it until I played the demo.

I imagine any sequel will take place in significantly different places with significantly different situations... Little Sisters are obviously intrinsic to the world of Rapture and not anywhere else.

As long as the series isn't taken advantage of horribly, I wouldn't mind seeing more of it. I'd actually like if it got a bit more complex along the lines of the System Shock series, but part of the appeal here (I imagine anyway) is its ease of access by comparison.

I think those numbers are technically "shipped", but to a game company that apparently means the same as sold to them.

I am sure Halo will crush this, but face it. This game is an original IP not a sequal and how much did MS and Bungie spend on Halo 3 adverts and hype. Bioshock while now advertised remained word of mouth and and previews from the gaming industry. I think a sequal will be great, but I am sure when they say GTA style it will be a different setting and different charactors. Part of me says do it completely different and part says to retain some things. Mayhap a prequel going on during the Civil war and you play a citizen of Rapture who knows either way we now 2k Boston is a good developer

Bring on the sequel/prequel!

heck, i'll preorder it now and put down the full purchase price for the CE!

Bioshock = GOTY -- halo fanboys, get used to it, and don't cry too much when H3 doesn't get it.

Bad idea to make more if you ask me. That game was damn near perfect for me.

Just reminds me of Red Faction, that game was amazing at the time to and when they threw out Red Faction 2 it was a complete load of crap.

I really think they should leave it alone, i mean..how much of this city is left to explore? How many times can they get you down there and for what purpose?

The way it ended...was all pretty final, making more could very well ruin it.

Course i could be wrong, could be the best move they've made but i somehow doubt it.

I can see why they sold so many copies, after playing the demo I had to buy it!
Awesome game but I'm not sure if they could continue the story and have the same impact!
I would definetly try Bioshock 2 if it's made though!

Bioshock's uniqueness is why it sold 1.5M copies. Why is our immediate reaction to expect a sequel?

Instead of a sequel, let's see more unique games.

Your crazy dude, the only thing that was innovative in Bioshock was it's story and setting. Don't get me wrong this game is very good, but GOTY? Not in my vote.

Sequel? I would welcome a sequel as long as it is innovative. The world of Rapture was something that was awe inspiring. When I first played it I was very moved. I think there is a universe here to be explored but not exploited.

@toro

and Halo 3 innovates? no, it just puts a shiny face on what they've done for the last two releases and added a few more gadgets.

"...the only thing that was innovative in Bioshock was it's story and setting..."

That's exactly why I bought the game.

I don't care about megaflops or terapixels, I want a great story that draws me in and makes me believe.

Hell yes Halo 3 innovates. I'll state how Halo/Bungie is innovative in very general terms:

First of all, they put a stamp for all FPS shooters to date with Halo 1. Almost every FPS copies Halo's gameplay mechanics. Innovative? Yes.

Halo 2 established matchmaking, which almost all other Xbox online games have followed suit. They also accomplished this with great graphics and no lag, a feat most Xbox and PS2 games could not do. Innovative? Yes.

Halo 3, saved films, which allows you to save your games as data on Bungie's servers. With this data, you can take high-res pictures, edit your film, watch from any angles, and finally, send them to your friends. Innovative? Definitely.

My point is that, Game of The Year should be given to a game that pushes Xbox to the next level. Do you think future games will follow Halo's innovations? For sure, and definitely with saved films, forge, matchmaking, customizablitiy, 4 player co-op, web-based stat tracking and web-based image sharing, and so on and so forth.

Watch for future games, they'll soon catch up to what Halo 3 is doing...

Why does Bioshock have to Innovate to be considered GOTY? It's just FUN, and enjoyable and Deep, and gripping.. You want Innovative, go play Boogie. It's Innovative.. maybe not fun or anything.. but it's Innovative.

It's funny that this story is talking about Bioshock breaking sales records... considering a few days ago Wii Fanboy was bragging about Metroid selling more then Boishock last month. Hmm, I wonder who is right. I mean... I'm sure alot of those copies could have been the PC version...

ok , halo 3 does add some stuff, but it's still not GOTY material imo.

it will probably get it though, whether it deserves it or not.

Halo is about as innovative as Doom 2 (ie. been there, done that, nothing to see here). Bioshock on the other hand is innovative in the sense of world immersion. When you play it, you care about some of the characters and want to finish the game to see the story unfold. The play mechanics, while they have been done before, are perfect in every regard. The way the NPCs interact with the environment and each other, which is a breath of fresh air for AI behaviour. Rapture is a living breathing world where every action you take has consequences. Halo would have been generic shooter # 124 if it wasn't the only FPS that worked well with a controller. Having never played Halo on the Xbox, only PC, I found it boring and generic in almost every way. It did not even compare to Half Life 1 IMO. Bioshock on the other hand has set the FPS bar very high for all new games.

I'm feeling Bioshock for GOTY... but then again we still have to play Halo 3, COD4, Assassin's Creed and Rock Band.

Wow, I feel sorry for those idiots that don't have a 360.

If they can keep the quality up, I'll keep buying 'em. System Shock 2 was amazing, and Bioshock lived up to the legacy IMHO (though I was kind of annoyed at how Vita-Chambers dumbed it down). I'm really looking forward to more. I only have one thing to ask:

2K, would you kindly make another dozen of these games?

Heh.
