Halo 3 launch events in US and free Xbox Live Gold

The time is almost upon us to finish the fight and today Microsoft announced the official details for their plans around the Halo 3 launch. Microsoft is calling it the "Unite to Fight" events. The most prominent thing that everyone can enjoy is from Sept. 25-27 everyone will automatically have Xbox Live Gold membership sponsored by Best Buy -- meaning you can play online with (or against) friends regardless of their Xbox Live membership.

There will be four major Halo 3 launch events in:

New York City – Best Buy, 529 5th Ave, New York, NY, 10017
Seattle – Best Buy, 457 120th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98005
Los Angeles – Gamestop, 1000 Universal Studios Blvd, Universal City, CA 91608
Miami – Circuit City, 8575 Northwest 13th Terrace, Miami, FL 33126

For those who just want their damn copy of the game without all the pomp and circumstance, remember you can just stop by 7-Eleven at midnight for the game and a Slurpee, or the "over 10,000 stores [which] will be open to sell Halo 3 in the biggest entertainment launch in history." Remember, the Halo 3 launch has lofty goals to attain.

Agreed. We Midwesterns need some love too. Oh wait, this is a Halo event. Yeah, I'll just wander in a couple days after the hullaballoo to my local target for my reserve copy. I still have flashbacks of the absolutely intellectually vacant conversations I had to endure during the midnight launch of Halo 2. Doesn't seem to be my crowd...

This game is VERY over rated. It may be a good game, but it is not gods gift to the earth. Get Bioshock!

Because Bioshock isn't overrated at all. Not when a Little Sister can walk right through the Proximity Mine I launched through her to kill the big daddy.

Little sisters don't take damage, dumbass! Try hitting one with a wrench, it does nothing.

Why thank you JJ Rooster for pointing out the central piece of my logic display as if it was a fatal flaw. If a core of the game is the inherent choice to save or feast upon these creepy little bastard children, then why are they immune to damage that not even a whiskey bottle is immune from. Or more importantly, how observant are these little retards that take no notice or warning of misgivings as a proximity mines flies through their chest?

Shep, I see your point. I actually 'naded a Big Daddy who became suspended in table 5 ft off the ground and was stuck until I killed him. To that I would only say I 've seen clipping and glitches in just about every game. I'm impressed the way AI reacts as-is, but it's not perfect and nothing like a human controlled opponent would do.

See, I'm not impressed with the AI at all. Majority of their reactions are scripted. I could practically crepp up behind several and follow them. And no, not the Big Daddy's who remain stupid beyond all comprehension. Especially Rosie. "Shoot, shoot, shoot, strafe."

I mean, the ambient things they say and the moodsetting of the game is phenominal and the story is entertaining so far, (predictable, but still entertaining) but I'd hardly give this game a 10. Low 9 at the highest. But I'm not through it yet.

Over-rated?
I'd like to know how you came to that conclusion considering the game doesnt come out for another week and a half.

Because of the first 2 games. Over rated games.

The government should put a 5% tax on Halo 3.

God, is everybody and their mom going to be selling Halo 3? And seriously, who is there left to advertise to. Aren't the people who give a damn already going to buy it?

Seriously... IMO, most everyone who's going to buy it has been fully aware of it for some time. All those extra advertising dollars slapping Halo on everything but BenGay© is a waste... every -gamer- knows about Halo. If you're not a gamer, then you're most likely not going to care.

this is kind of funny... it's sort of like cloaked desperation... not many of the great games need this kind of publicity to sell well... it's almost insulting.

You mean like the same midnight celebrations, including the Times Square celebration, for Halo 2, which only received universally high praise and set a record in single day sales?

I still think it's kind of funny that m$ really wants to shove Halo down everyone throats with these kinds of events. They have so many other solid games - everyone already knows about Halo 3.. it's pretty much one of the main reasons people own a 360... Xbox is synonymous w/ Halo.

I stand corrected on the WoW expansion launch. Apologies. I do, however, still think good games should sell well independent of launch parties and find launch parties rather amusing.

I'll be in Miami! or a 7-11, I haven't decided.

I wonder what happens when the 360's start failing en masse due to the all non-stop Halo sessions. Just think about it. Could get ugly.

I thought about that, especially considering how RROD's are more likely after extended play.

I have to admit, I've avoided turning on my 360 ever since I finished Bioshock for the fear of facing the RRoD.

I at least want - no, NEED - the box to last me until the campaign is over.

I wouldn't worry about it. M$ will just blow another billion+ to fix everyone's issues.

I enjoy the publicity. Halo is a highly enjoyable game, and the books are equally enjoyable. It may not have been the most ground breaking game ever but it brought so many of the best things from a myriad of great FPSs. And the storytelling and the characters are some of the most memorable there has ever been (Master Chief, Cortana, Sgt. Johnson, Arbiter, Capt. Keyes, Foehammer, etc). Please if you like to read do yourself a favor and read the books. Classic storytelling. I can't wait for the movie but please do it right!
