Castlevania guru Koji Igarashi in a Game Informer interview says he's leaning toward Xbox 360 for the next console version of Castlevania. He says that he's focusing on "the best platform for the U.S. market" and that would be in his opinion the Xbox 360. He goes on to the say that the US market is the "biggest market" for the series, so he's giving priority to the Xbox 360. He doesn't rule out dual development but says it "would be very tough" and that if Metal Gear Solid 4 expands the PS3 market they may release the next Castlevania on PS3 as well.
Still in business mode, Igarashi went on to explain Castlevania for the Wii. He says that Nintendo dominates their own console and third party titles are not so great in sales. He says he's researching how to make Castlevania work on the system in the future and it's about getting the whip motion to work properly instead of having players waggle like Zelda. Igarashi finishes by saying that the next DS Castlevania should be announced in the "near future."

Well Metal Gear is a great game but I don`t think is enough for raise the ps3 sales in America.
I need numbers, who knows how many games of the last Metal Gear games sell compared to Halo 3 or Bioshock?
May be not so much....
So, Castelvania go to Xbox 360. Nice.

Actually, according to the Wiki list MGS2 outsold the first one:
Metal Gear Solid (6.6 million)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (7 million)
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (3.7 million)

Don't get me wrong I think Bioshock is a fantastic game that everyone should run out and buy. It has shipped 1.5 mil, and thus far has yet to sell through half a mil.
I believe it will sell multi-millions ultimately, but its got a ways to go. Lets hope people give this wonderful new IP a shot.

Is more than last Metal Gear.

We shall release game for super attach rate 360. Yes. $$$>Waggle. He could have announced it for PS3 and just delayed it up front. However, I guess it beats last gen when PS2 got all the good ( or games with potential to be good) games and Konami would release TMNT on Xbox and call that supporting the system.

Your typical Nintendo third-party path:
1.) Nintendo system comes out.
2.) Figure that third party games won't sell, and test the water with ports of other games.
3.) See that ports don't sell as well as original Nintendo games.
4a.) Keep on porting games that sell less rather than making original games.
4b.) Release an original game with your B-team developers, find out that Generic Man in Danger Town (Vol. 1) doesn't sell as well as Ninja Chronicles: The Stirring Sonata of Death.

Actually, that's the DS port. There'll be a sequel for the Wii after the IP is sold to Codemasters - Danger Man: Revolution: Operation Stealth.
It'll be set in World War II. Nobody will know why.

YES!!! HAHAHA! I was really getting worried for Castlevania. My all-time favorite series isn't being left for dead like my other all-time favorite series (Metroid) was, thank goodness. Sure, IGA and crew haven't found a way to make a "3D Castlevania" a "Castlevania in 3D" yet (and I do believe they should stop trying), but it warms my heart to hear that a new DS Castlevania is finally coming.
It's wierd of him to announce that they're going to announce a new DS Castlevania soon. Thanks for breaking the news early, IGA.
As for researching and tuning the Wiimote's controls for whipping things in a realistic way and not like Zelda's sword waggle? I'm no professional, but sometimes, when I hear developers talk about their failed, original designs for a game, I laugh. Here, I'm laughing at IGA's not-quite-failed-but-obviously-lame-idea. It's only a matter of time before that one gets cut, I think. It's not going to be fun to cast a fishing line each and every time you want to "whip a skeleton" in a Castlevania game. We'll see.
I'm glad the Castlevania guys are bringing it to the 360, because if they had decided to go with the Playstation brand, I'd have had to buy one. Well, maybe not. Unless it was a brand-new, 2D Castlevania with the best 3D graphics in the highest resolution and the largest world with tons of awesome new features and online co-op. Ooooh baby!

Castlevania in 3D = Metroid Prime.
On the gameboy Castlevania and Metroid are pretty darn similar games. Side scrolling, platforming, ability gaining, backtracking, area-unlocking, action-adventure games.
Maybe he should drop Retro Studios a line now they are having a rest from Metroid.
Heck, they even implemented the darn grapple-beam already.. shouldn't take much to tweak that into a whip.
Of course, if they did make a castlevania similar to Metroid then everyone would be complaining it (a) had no multiplayer, (b) had too much backtracking, (c) wasn't like Halo.

"He says that Nintendo dominates their own console and third party titles are not so great in sales."
That's because 3rd party titles on Wii are not so great in QUALITY. They release nothing but shovelware crap and then assume their games sell poorly because they're 3rd party instead of 1st party. Idiots.
But anyway, I don't even have a 360 and I'm STILL not concerned about the one game being 360-only, because it's pretty much guaranteed to be a followup to the "Castlevania in name only" outings from the PS2. The 360ers can have their psuedo-castevania game. I'm much more annoyed at the GBA/DS Castlevanias never being ported to a non-portable. (Hmm, "ported to a non-portable", that sounds contradictory.)

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying the PS2 Castlevanias were bad games. They were actually kinda fun in their own right. I'm just saying that there was very little "Castlevania" about them, and that they certainly weren't as good as the 2D Castlevanias.

Add 1 more point for Xbox360? Why? Because the 360 now has a chance to discourage Castlevania fans with another 3D disaster. The N64 version sucked. The PS2 version sucked (unless you were on something). Don't get me wrong here, I'm not slamming the 360 here, I just wish they'd give up making these crappy 3d Castevania games.

Heh, he's probably thinking "Yea, but we haven't announced anything about the characters or storyline yet! Or what are random title generator came up with this time for our sacred 'Castlevania: __ of __' template."
Pfft, like anyone cares about that stuff. Unless it's Alucard, he's awesome. Or if they FINALLY ditch the generic-anime crap and go back to the Symphony of the Night art style. (Nohing against anime in general, I just hate when games like Castlevania and Megaman X suddenly go "anime just for the sake of anime" when they already had a perfectly good, even better, style in the first place. But noooo, I guess Shonen Jump is too popular to keep from cramming its style into everything humanly possible these days.)
Ok I'm done ranting :)

@Chrono: Maybe so, but there's still a big difference between the style of Megaman 1-7 and the first couple Megaman X's, and then that whole ultra-chatty, contains -it's-own-cartoon-cutscenes junk from Megaman 8 and Megaman X4 onward.
But of course that's just my opinion. If you or someone else does like that stuff than, hey, more power to ya.

I don't have an HD TV, or a PS3/360.. but i can't help thinking a HD 2d Castlevania along the lines of Odin Sphere would look stunning.
Or if they NEED to have it in 3d.. something like LittleBigPlanet. 3D in 2d world.

I don't think Igarashi(and many developers) quite 'get' the Wii. Using a whip motion would be retarded. The controller has got some damn buttons, use those for the game's main attack. Motion control should be subtle and natural, not hacked in. I'm talking to you, new Worms game(which it sounds like Team 17 has already ruined... shaking the wiimote for your power guage? Go to hell, Team 17).

Don't get me wrong, I loved the N64 Castlevania games. They took the properties that made the games famous and moved them into 3D.
It seems like IGA wants to convolute the mechanics of the series entirely since Symphony did so well with a different method.
SotN's coattails are wearing thin; IGA can't ride them forever.
And to note: every developer and their sister needn't produce games for the Wii that rely solely on the Wii-mote. The device does have the option of a traditional controller.

Castelvania is stuck in a sub adventure hump like DMC, however unlike DMC its level design is crap they need to overhaul how they build a 3D Castelvania game,a 2D is not bad but lets not make it uber generic fantasy like its become on the DS, Aria of sorrow was a bit better....
First off Castelvania needs to be more adventure than LOI or COD, really I think if you took the N64 levels mixed it with the game play of LOI you'd have a winner .
LOI and COD have overly simple level design that complied with at times weak gameplay has hurt the series, if they want to use a combo system look at other games that do it better like god of war and such, really its hard to make Castelvania suck but they've been doing a pretty fair job of it the last 2 games.

Why does everyone forget that third parties did just fine with the NES, SNES and pre-GBA Gameboys? Third parties didn't go downhill on Nintendo systems until the N64 rolled around, and that was mainly because they just weren't willing to put up with Nintendo's horrid royalty setup and expensive cartridges. The third party sales problems in Nintendo systems has more to do with the animosity generated toward them in the N64 days, thus not willing to put any real effort into titles. Also doesn't help that Nintendo still isn't developer friendly (on a business level).

In my opinion: First off, Castlevania has done well with the SOTN style since SOTN, and it will continue to do well because it's fun to play. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Second, I don't think Iga intends to make another 3-D Castlevania game after the abysmal sales of the last one. Third, the reason good 3rd party games haven't been making it to Nintendo consoles for the last few generations is because Playstation was top dog up until now, and Microsoft has been buying it's third party support. Nintendo doesn't buy support from anyone. They just make their own support. In addition, the Wii is popular, sure, but it's also a hassle to develop for. Why spend a lot of time and money trying to figure out how to implement awkward waggle controls, when you can just quickly and cheaply whip (no pun intended) out a traditionally controlled game for the PS3 or 360? Lastly, the games industry is fading in Japan. America is now the market that all the Japanese developers are starting to focus on. So, Japanese sales numbers aren't as important as they used to be. In summation, I predict that this game will be a 2-D 360 exclusive. It will be awesome. Anyone without a 360 will be jealous. And if it's done in the style of Odin Sphere...oh man! Delicious!

We'd all like a great 2D Castlevania, but if it's on Wii, people will think its kiddy and not "high-def" enough, and if it's on Xbox 360, people will think the graphics suck.
If it's 3D, either way, it sucks.
I've played all the GBA games and Symphony of the Night, those were good.
