I just came in here to say that Castlevania Symphony of the Night was awesome.

Nothing helpful here. Move along.

is it true that you can alter your xbox so that it can save entire games that are playable from your hard drive.

Make it 2-D or don't make it at all. And yes SOTN was awesome!

Richard, you typed "What's interesting about the interview is that Igarashi makes it sound as though the Xbox 360 will be the only platform for the next Castlevania, more or less pinning the hopes of a •••PS3•••• version on the success of Metal Gear Solid 4."

Shouldn't that read 'Xbox 360 version?'

@9 - The way he phrased it sounds right to me. The interview basically states that he doesn't see a point in a PS3 version unless MGS4 (and other titles, I'd imagine) significantly expands the PS3 market share in Japan.

This sounds good to me. I'm only interested in 2D-plane Castlevanias, but unless it was of Odin Sphere-level graphics, no way I'd pay full retail for a sprite-based version. Bring the production levels up to a full-3D 360-quality game, though, but in a 2D plane, and I might just buy it.

That said, and I have to be honest here, Castlevania only works well for me on handhelds. It's the kind of game I can just pull out of my pocket and play nonstop anywhere. I play it while watching TV or just about anything else that I can multitask with, and I can barely put it down. But having to give it my full attention aside from everything else doesn't work as well for me. We'll see, though.

I dunno about all you people hating on 3D Castlevania -- I for one found Curse of Darkness (?) on PS2/Xbox to be really fun. They did a pretty good job with the 3D-ness of it, I enjoyed building up familiars, and it "felt" like a CV game. It could have had a bit more to it -- more areas, more special abilities, more weapons, etc. -- but it was definitely worth picking up at Greatest Hits pricing.

That said, my favorites are still the SotN/GBA/DS-styled ones. If they redo it in 2.5D, I'll be happy to shell out for that too.
