Rumor: Halo movie script leaked
A 128-page PDF file allegedly containing Alex Garland's original Halo film script has leaked onto the internet. Garland famously was paid $1 million to write up the first draft for the movie, although the script has since been rewritten by D.B. Weiss and John Olson (A History of Violence). So is this really Garland's writing, or is it just well-written fan fiction? 1UP thinks it's legit, and provides a few sample pages of the ending (including the cliché post-credits sequel teaser) from the file. We haven't read the PDF, but the sample pages do thematically match what Latino Review wrote about Garland's draft back in November 2005.
Still, we're hesitant to call this real -- and, even if it is, the script is an early draft of a project at least twice-rewritten that may never go into production in the first place. Head over to 1UP to peruse a few selected pages from the alleged script.

I had to double-take at the picture for a moment, because I thought Master Chief was sitting in the classic "Al Bundy" sofa pose.

They've used this picture every time they bring up Halo movie news. How new are you? (No offense intended, just surprised you wouldn't recognize this image)
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 12th 2007 9:48AM
I'm signed on here during the day at work, so I probably missed the other posts of this picture. Hell, I usually skim past the HALO news due to the comments(read: "arguing")that floods it... no pun intended.
Anonim @ Sep 11th 2007 12:10PM
That Halo_Garland_Alex_020605.pdf looks really nice - but it's essentialy a Halo 1 game script.
Shagittarius @ Sep 11th 2007 12:20PM
128 pages? Is that triple spaced with 5 inch borders?
outforprophets @ Sep 11th 2007 1:01PM
Film scripts are written with the intent that 1 page represent about 1 minute on screen. Of course, with action scenes it's a little different.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 11th 2007 12:21PM
Fake or not, I hope this movie lives up to it's potential. The HALO universe just oozes sci-fi blockbuster potential.
Just keep George "I'm writing this script for a 12yr old" Lucas away from it and all will be well.
borland502 @ Sep 11th 2007 12:33PM
"I hope this movie lives up to it's potential."
Halo has potential? I thought this was going to be an Uwe Boll special.
Mike-453 @ Sep 11th 2007 12:51PM
"Halo has potential?"
Five novels say yes. :D
I'm just hoping when it finally is made, Bungie/Microsoft doesn't let anyone fuck it up or make it stupid to appeal to the mainstream. (yea i know the games are dumbed down to appeal to mainstream, but that pisses me off too)
borland502 @ Sep 11th 2007 1:43PM
"Five novels say yes. :D"
Wing Commander also had a similar number of novels. Yet God help me, that didn't save the movie.
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 11th 2007 2:04PM
My dad and I liked Wing Commander movie. The two times we saw it.
Aberu @ Sep 11th 2007 3:04PM
Yeah but the potential of the movie wasn't any worse... It just wasn't lived up to. And yeah Wing Commander the movie sucked ass. Didn't follow pretty much any storyline.
Phillip @ Sep 11th 2007 1:22PM
So is this movie on hold or not?
Mr. Objectional @ Sep 11th 2007 1:37PM
You do realize that a main plot device of the series is rocket-launcher-toting mutant alien zombies in space, right?
Mike-453 @ Sep 11th 2007 1:42PM
Even if it were that simple it would still be a pretty damn entertaining film, space zombies, rocket launchers, what's not to like.
GRANTED @ Sep 11th 2007 1:59PM
as a non-360 owner, let me say this move looks like it would be a blast to watch. i don't care if it's mindless. the flood battle sounds cool as hell, and the personification of master chief looks on the right track. if it came out tomorrow i'd see it.
Neebs @ Sep 11th 2007 2:31PM
So it's Halo 1: The Movie?
Weak.
Staggs @ Sep 11th 2007 2:57PM
If they do manage to get this movie back on track, I really hope it's not about the Chief. I mean, I'd probably see it several times regardless of who it's about, but anyone who's read the Halo novels knows that the Master Chief isn't exactly the most social person in the world, something that doesn't quite fit in with Alex Garland's 'character-development-out-the-ass' style of writing scripts.
Sean @ Sep 11th 2007 6:02PM
The twist is Cortana is a man.
LaughingTarget @ Sep 11th 2007 8:45PM
Probably fake. Movie scripts are specifically written on paper that cannot be scanned (we know Microsoft would have demanded this). Thus, unless this is a full 128 page hand-typed copy, I'd call it a fanfic.
Mighty Shockwave @ Sep 11th 2007 8:47PM
Meh, I think tat this movie would be better if it focused on the first encounters with the Covenant and the Fall of Reach. But, that's just me. Though what really ticked me off was one line, "We see the action through his eyes..." You DON'T do first person in an action movie. It just makes the film look like a game that I'm watching somebody else play. That's what pissed me off about the DOOM movie (other than everything else). At parts, the movie just felt like watching somebody else play with modded 3D graphics.
