Conan action game moves up to Sept. 28

Conan the action game, not the MMO, has actually moved up from its '08 release and will be hacking and slashing its way onto consoles Sept. 28. This should most definitely not be confused with the recently announced delay of the Conan MMO, which continues its state of everlasting development.

If you actually have no idea about this God of War-style Conan adventure, you can check out some of our previous coverage and we've placed the newest trailer we're aware of after the break. Admittedly this was a game that flew under the radar, but aren't you glad its not another delay announcement?

What a god awful decision, they actually chose to directly compete with the most and best games possible... who made such a stupid decision?

I mean I probably would have picked this up simply from the title if it released in a slow week/month, but I am almost fatigued already and the hevey releases are still to come...!

Happy delays all around!

In an unrelated event, I got a "new" game at Gamestop today and it has writing on the manual, it's not in original wrapping, and the disk is scratched. Yet I paid full price. I feel like an idiot. Must be my fault for trusting Gamestop.

I want to like this game. It has a god of war meets Two towers/return of the king(ps2 games) look to it. They probably needed to tune down the blazing swords, and what you collect from those you kill. It kind of gives it a cheesy look.

Conan predates Tolkiens fantasy world. Have you ever read any of Robert Howards Conan stories, or Dark Horses comic? Really good buddy...give it go, Conan (and Howards Kull) created the silent badass archetype that is teh master chief and kratos.

You do realize that Conan is one of the first barbarian type characters in modern literature, right? And that the author who created Conan (Robert E. Howard) pretty much created the so-called "Swords and Sorcery" genre in the 1930's. Of course you do.

And that new release date only applies to Europe. It's still October 23 for the US.

When are these Devs gonna actually use some creativity. I mean why Conan? Why now? Who cares about this character, this crap is not going to sell. Who approved this game they need to get fired and come uo with something original. People who read the VERY popular and well recieved comic? People who are older than 20, or read? Most guys who grew up in the 70s or 80s? People who liked the Arnold films? I dont know i guess nobody...

I'll give you a break since you seem to post before your brain realizes what you are doing sometimes.

Conan is an absolutely classic character created by Robert E Howard in the 30s. He was pretty much the first swords n babes fantasy character ever.

Calling Conan the most uninspired character ever is pretty ignorant.

Now this game on the other hand...

Poor IP selection aside, the bumping up of the release date worries me more. Most developers say they could always use more time.

The only rationale I can see for releasing it on the 28th is the higher shelf space exposure to the Halo fans. But that doesn't translate into more incramental sales, does it? Me thinks not.

Actually, the MMO had me curious, this version not so much. Conan was a badass and all, but right now it will be in the shadow of too many other characters to have much in the ways of sales.

At first I looked at the pics and thought "meh". But after seeing the video, I think I'm going to rent. I think it looks pretty good if those were in game fighting scenes and not CG.

I'll be giving the game a rental, but my expectations aren't high.

It's a sad thing, but I expect this IP will never be given the proper attention it deserves.

Conan should be featured in a true God of War calibur game both in terms of storytelling and gameplay. Not something rushed to market as a weak last ditch effort to save the bottom line. (Which I suspect this will be.)

Hopefully I'll be surprised.
