You know what we say? Lair-Shmair. Who cares if there's a killer-app on PS3 if they're going to keep updating the firmware all the time? It's like getting a new console every couple of weeks! (Sure, 360 owners can say the same, but that just because they have to keep mailing them off for repair.) Take, for instance, firmware 1.93 coming in the "next few days" that ... well, it fixes a network disconnect problem created by 1.92. Hmm. ... Let's move on.
On PSP, you've got the upcoming 3.71, which adds "many features that readers [of the Sony blog] have requested." No, they're not talking about any at the moment except for themes, which was actually in 3.70. Either way it's a "must-download," if only to protect ourselves from the ever-approaching homebrew menace.

I thought you got rid of your PSP because you weren't doing anything with it. I mean, that was your whole thesis for why the DS triumphs over everything and the PSP is a failure.

I wasn't doing anything with it because I was forced to choose between future awesomeness of homebrew apps (which are free) or future awesomeness on the game library. Then I realized that holding onto hardware I could trade in for moneys based on future awesomeness in general was stupid, and I got rid of it. That was maybe 6 months to a year after launch. Meanwhile, homebrew awesomeness is here (the PS1 emu that plays your ISOs, for example), but sony awesomeness is still future awesomeness (but getting closer)
I'll apply the same rules to getting a PSP that I applied to the 360, when I can name 5 games off the top of my head that I want on the PSP, that are out or soon to be out, I'll buy another one. Until then, I will laugh at its poor sales vs the competition.

These small firmware updates are the equivalent to the stuff you see in the PC world. The benefits aren't always new features but better performance and effeciency. I'm sure they'll add one or two features to the PSP firmware that were meant to be in the last update. I don't think they're making this out to be big news, but it is news nonetheless...we get enough of these that it only makes sense to cover it when it comes out.
On another note, is Heavenly Sword 'in stores' today because I don't want to waste a trip to the store.

God, I hope so. I've been playing the demo just to keep my chops up.

Alot of these updates also free up a lot of memory from the OS allowing future ps3 games to utililize that memory. Updates are great and welcome.

why cant sony just test the damn updates before they release them, every time they "fix" something, another thing gets fucked up

I'm sure they must them but even they can't account for every possible configuration of PS3s out there. The issues in 1.92 don't affect all users.
Either way glad to see a fix is on the way soon.

Yeah. I've had zero problems since the update. I was surprised to hear people were.

I've been fine with every update thus far. Did you check your configuration settings? Heaven knows there's a LOT to adjust and edit in that system menu... which leads me to wonder why I haven't used the system "for features other than manufacturer's intentions" yet. ¬_¬"

I suffered from the "Network Disconnect" problem as soon as I installed 1.92. I was connected wirelessly to my network and after the update I could access the web through my web browser but all contact to PSN was dead (which made Warhawk useless). I had to reboot router and retore default settings on my PS3 before it was back up. If this fixes the problem without the resets, good for SONY. The biggest problem with the reset was that I had to re-enter all my bookmarks.
