Even more PS3/PSP firmware coming soon
You know what we say? Lair-Shmair. Who cares if there's a killer-app on PS3 if they're going to keep updating the firmware all the time? It's like getting a new console every couple of weeks! (Sure, 360 owners can say the same, but that just because they have to keep mailing them off for repair.) Take, for instance, firmware 1.93 coming in the "next few days" that ... well, it fixes a network disconnect problem created by 1.92. Hmm. ... Let's move on.
On PSP, you've got the upcoming 3.71, which adds "many features that readers [of the Sony blog] have requested." No, they're not talking about any at the moment except for themes, which was actually in 3.70. Either way it's a "must-download," if only to protect ourselves from the ever-approaching homebrew menace.

Now, if only I had a PS3...
Oh well, back to Gears and my Call of Duty 4 beta.
sheppy2.0 @ Sep 12th 2007 8:43AM
Hmm, a news article about an upcooming firmware update. Methinks one wanted to be at TGS....
Night Elve @ Sep 12th 2007 8:49AM
Well even if you posted that with a bit of sarcasm, to me is pretty great that Sony is always working on new firmwares to add new features or solve some problems.
Jtenma @ Sep 12th 2007 8:45AM
In b4 flame..
Also, I like the themes on psp, they are pretty cool.
Supino @ Sep 12th 2007 8:49AM
They are just patching, no new features..
Phranctoast @ Sep 12th 2007 8:58AM
getting a bit closer to 2.0!
Febry @ Sep 12th 2007 9:06AM
Yep, Home hopefully!
Febry @ Sep 12th 2007 8:56AM

"many features that readers [of the Sony blog] have requested."
I'm guessing this doesn't mean homebrew support, since that discussion was banned from the sony blog.
And still I wait.
borland502 @ Sep 12th 2007 10:08AM
I thought you got rid of your PSP because you weren't doing anything with it. I mean, that was your whole thesis for why the DS triumphs over everything and the PSP is a failure.
Crono (NDF - Fire Ring) @ Sep 12th 2007 10:22AM
I wasn't doing anything with it because I was forced to choose between future awesomeness of homebrew apps (which are free) or future awesomeness on the game library. Then I realized that holding onto hardware I could trade in for moneys based on future awesomeness in general was stupid, and I got rid of it. That was maybe 6 months to a year after launch. Meanwhile, homebrew awesomeness is here (the PS1 emu that plays your ISOs, for example), but sony awesomeness is still future awesomeness (but getting closer)
I'll apply the same rules to getting a PSP that I applied to the 360, when I can name 5 games off the top of my head that I want on the PSP, that are out or soon to be out, I'll buy another one. Until then, I will laugh at its poor sales vs the competition.
DBX00 @ Sep 12th 2007 9:08AM
These small firmware updates are the equivalent to the stuff you see in the PC world. The benefits aren't always new features but better performance and effeciency. I'm sure they'll add one or two features to the PSP firmware that were meant to be in the last update. I don't think they're making this out to be big news, but it is news nonetheless...we get enough of these that it only makes sense to cover it when it comes out.
On another note, is Heavenly Sword 'in stores' today because I don't want to waste a trip to the store.
Matt B @ Sep 12th 2007 9:37AM
God, I hope so. I've been playing the demo just to keep my chops up.
Phranctoast @ Sep 12th 2007 9:18AM
Alot of these updates also free up a lot of memory from the OS allowing future ps3 games to utililize that memory. Updates are great and welcome.
vinny @ Sep 12th 2007 9:23AM
why cant sony just test the damn updates before they release them, every time they "fix" something, another thing gets fucked up
gullum @ Sep 12th 2007 9:34AM
I'm sure they must them but even they can't account for every possible configuration of PS3s out there. The issues in 1.92 don't affect all users.
Either way glad to see a fix is on the way soon.
Trev @ Sep 12th 2007 11:44AM
Yeah. I've had zero problems since the update. I was surprised to hear people were.
Vidikron @ Sep 12th 2007 10:10AM
Or really? Every time? That's not been my experience. Hell, I haven't even experienced any of the network issues caused by 1.92.
Matt B @ Sep 12th 2007 11:15AM
I've never have had any issues either.
OnimushaSoki @ Sep 12th 2007 12:56PM
I've been fine with every update thus far. Did you check your configuration settings? Heaven knows there's a LOT to adjust and edit in that system menu... which leads me to wonder why I haven't used the system "for features other than manufacturer's intentions" yet. ¬_¬"
Dave 242 @ Sep 12th 2007 9:46AM
I love this unbiassed neutral sarcasm :-). It always makes me feel better during a horrible day.
ysdarkfact @ Sep 13th 2007 4:41AM
I wonder how long it'll take to get a 3.7 custom firmware.
oomp @ Sep 12th 2007 1:29PM
I suffered from the "Network Disconnect" problem as soon as I installed 1.92. I was connected wirelessly to my network and after the update I could access the web through my web browser but all contact to PSN was dead (which made Warhawk useless). I had to reboot router and retore default settings on my PS3 before it was back up. If this fixes the problem without the resets, good for SONY. The biggest problem with the reset was that I had to re-enter all my bookmarks.
pmasterfunk @ Sep 12th 2007 5:55PM
"ever-approaching homebrew menace."
WTF
homebrew in no menace
