Headline = Call of Duty 4 + Collector's Edition - PS3

In what has become a fairly formulaic move for high-profile titles, Activision has announced that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will deploy on November 5th in both standard and suspiciously shiny collector's editions -- at least it will on the Xbox 360 and PC. Curiously, the PlayStation 3 has been snubbed from the proceedings, left in the cold with just one of this year's most anticipated games. Is Activision trying to say Sony's system doesn't have enough... collectors?

Should you own one of the more fortunate platforms, parting with an extra ten dollars will net you a hardcover art book, which we're told features never-before-seen concept, development and final in-game artwork. In addition, the PC version ($60) will provide access to a digital strategy guide while the Xbox 360 package ($70) will house a bonus DVD filled with interviews and other making-of mutterings. Expect those to mention the word "visceral" a lot.

From what I've seen of the beta it's the CoD formula with some nice improvements. A definite must buy.

How good is that picture? It will definitely look 10x better than the standard edition.

They're just giving PS3 owners a break - after all, PS3 owners had to spend $500+ to get the console, so now they can save $10 by not having a COD4 Collector's Edition. I think it's very thoughtful of them!

Whats up with all these multi DVD9 360 releases? Halo3 is coming on 3 DVD9s.. whereas Strangle Hold PS3 gets the 1080p transfer of Hardboiled on the gamedisc.

So out of all the games you had to compare to Halo 3 you picked Stranglehold? I forgot it was one of the PS3's exclusive big gunz. A mediocre game that's supposed to be a sequel to a mediocre movie... Nuff said

Yeah, that was debunked a long time ago, there are 3 disks in certain editions, but only one with the actual game

I'll get by quite nicely on PS3. Soon as my wrist casts come off, I'll just carry on playing LAIR. heh

Nah,I will be playing Halo 3 or Naruto Rise of a Ninja.I'm getting sick of shooters Halo 3 is the last one I will ever own.

Scratch that,Orange Box FTW but after that no more shooters for me...at least during this year.

Hopefully the Naruto game will actually turn out to be GOOD, though. There's still no guarantee of that. :/

Acculy it's kinda like a pyrimid.

PC on top with the most content in it's Collectors.

360 in middle with a collectors.

PS3 on bottem with none.

Well Microsoft did say they were trying to bring PC gaming back to the ranks of console gaming...SO far I think they've done a good job

I was thinking more along the lines of the developers simply liking the PC the best...I mean, it IS an FPS, and Call of Duty DID start only on the PC. Infinity Ward even acknowledged that the PC is a better platform for the genre when they said there would be no cross-platform online play.

screw you guys ill play shooters or anything for that matter as longs as its good...you act like its all the same......Gears is nothing like rainbow six is...nothing like bioshock....is nothing like halo....is nothing like ...COD you see where Im going. would it make a difference if it was a 3rd person. and 3rd persons are usually platformers...which all have guns(real or not0 and kill things so the only difference is the view.

Might it have something to do with the cost of pressing on DVD vs. Blu-ray discs? A PS3 comsumer wouldn't want to see an extra $5-10 on top of the 360 collector's edition price.

The only difference in pressing a BD disc is if you go from 1 layer to 2 layers.. even then its marginal. The added video content wont push it to dual layer unless its in 1080p.

What I was trying to say was that perhaps they don't make PS3 collector's editions due to the higher cost of pressing onto Blu-0ray vs. DVD.
For Example: COD 4 CE for 360 = $70
COD 4 CE for PS3 = $80

I don't know this for a fact. It's just a theory.

My Guess...

Activision put out Spider-Man 3 - Collector's Edition, exclusively on PS3. Most likely because of the game having close ties with a Sony product (the movie).

Infinity ward said they had a close relationship with Microsoft, with Call of Duty 2 being the biggest Xbox 360 *launch* title well into the consoles early life.

Maybe Activision is just pulling a logical move... And giving the goods to the people / companies / consoles / consumers who would most likely take the bait?
