In what has become a fairly formulaic move for high-profile titles, Activision has announced that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare will deploy on November 5th in both standard and suspiciously shiny collector's editions -- at least it will on the Xbox 360 and PC. Curiously, the PlayStation 3 has been snubbed from the proceedings, left in the cold with just one of this year's most anticipated games. Is Activision trying to say Sony's system doesn't have enough... collectors?
Should you own one of the more fortunate platforms, parting with an extra ten dollars will net you a hardcover art book, which we're told features never-before-seen concept, development and final in-game artwork. In addition, the PC version ($60) will provide access to a digital strategy guide while the Xbox 360 package ($70) will house a bonus DVD filled with interviews and other making-of mutterings. Expect those to mention the word "visceral" a lot.

It makes me wonder why no love for the ps3 version.....its almost as easy too manufacture a couple of collector versions of the ps3....or is this some sort of buildup too the disappointing ps3 version or what? And before someone starts complaining ....I know its also at 60fps blah blah blah...but people find differences in every multiplatform game and twist them too their own biases.

This is misleading; the game is still coming out for the PS3 just not a collectors edition. Who needs all of the other BS; just give us the game. The PS3 version is the least expensive of the 3 versions! Way to go Joystiq for making it look like the game isn't even coming out for the PS3.

Relax, JJ.. It's still coming out for the PS3.. When? Who knows.. But 1 thing is for sure..
-It will still LOOK better, PLAY (online) better, And SELL better on the XBOX360.
And thats a given..

You know HB.. the multiplatform online playable games i've played betweent he 2 systems... neither of em actually play better than the other system. Its really just a matter of which controller i prefer.
so as for COD4 i may have to buy it for the PS3. But thats only because i oddly, prefer the Sony controller to Ms's offerings for FPS. No idea why, it just feels more comfortable to me.

I wouldn’t buy a collectors edition of anything. I don't want a game company thinking people are willing to spend the extra $$$ in a test market ploy to raise future game prices.

PC Version for me, although i'll pass on the collectors edition. The behind the scenes movies seem cool but something that will be freely available on the site most likely later down the road.
I'm playing the 360 beta right now and while it's fun, it's nothing new or special, but it does look pretty. Reminds me of a mix between battlefield 2(ranking system with weapon upgrades and misc upgrades) + Counterstrike. To be honest, I'm looking forward to the single player campaign more than anything. With TF2, UT3, and Quake Wars, there's already too many online shooters i'll be playing that are so far more interesting...

This is likely yet another one of those stupid stories where tomorrow Activision will state that it neglected to include the collector's edition of the PS3 version. If it's true, it makes zero sense. The whole reason for having collector's editions is to squeeze more cash out of customers. They could include the exact same additions as the 360 version and slap the BD game with it.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Well, I probably wouldn't get this for my PS3 anyway, since FPSs for consoles are crap (unless you can use a keyboard and mouse... UT3, I'm looking at you), but even if I did get it, I wouldn't get a collector's edition anyway. More money for crap that has nothing to do with the game (oooh a book and a pendant and a little GI joe... whoopee). No thanks.

I tire of this discrimination and bias toward such an under-estimated console (and under gamed).
Still, who cares! Collector's editions are just shams. Wait a month or three and the title will be cheap.
