In all of Tuesday night's excitement about classics like REZ and Ikaruga coming to Xbox Live, we neglected to tell you about another, slightly less well known, title that will be making it's way to the Arcade: Braid. It's an odd 2D platformer that puts more of a focus on your ability to manipulate time and solve puzzles than on your ability to avoid dying. Though we're not sure of an exact date, Microsoft is currently saying "early 2008."
If you're among the uninitiated when it comes to Jonathan Blow's unconventional game, see our hands-on impressions here. If you want to understand more about Blow and his way of thinking about game design, you should check out Stephen Totilo's interview with him. On second thought, you have to read it. It's a long piece, but it's fascinating.

You forgot to mention Braid AND Schizoid were also mentioned at pre-TGS.

Not exactly. In order to access the XBLA (and the entire XBL Marketplace including demos), you can use the free Xbox Live Silver account.
It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to force customers to pay a cover charge just to get into your online store.
More info on the free Silver account here:

Thanks, waves. M$ isn't company which follows logic all the time. So felt better to ask then guess.
Well, slowly slowly, XBLA is getting close to critical mass, when it would make sense to buy Xbox solely for XBLA games. The day - at least for me - is already looming.

looks good, i dont see why pubs dont think people wont buy 2d games anymore. As long as a game is good i will play it. (and even some crappy ones for gamerscore!)

Count me into casual crowd. I will NOT pay to play on-line. Especially considering that I'm not willing (nor do have time) to train to play with others. Training for multi-player is crucial...

you don't need gold. i got a 360 a couple weeks after launch but didnt get live gold until a week ago. i played lots of single-player games, but with CoD4 (very fun beta, btw), puzzle fighter, halo 3, etc I felt it was time to go gold. the price isn't that high, it's a little over 4 dollars per month

Hey join the crowd samfish! I bought my PS3 in June for Bluray and a few imaginative PSN games. I can see a 360 purchase for similar reasons.
Those arcade games (PSN, VC, or Live) are pure impulse crack.

Once again samfish is mistaken as an SDF while actually being a Nintendo fan. That naked Peach disguise isn't adequate cover.

@hvnlysoldr - I'd say naked peach has no cover. Besides, I'm waxing poetic about the online offerings, not a specific console.

So it's basically a graphic adventure game in the form of a 2D platformer?
Do want.
