First crop of Neo Geo games for Virtual Console announced
Though Japanese Wii owners have been salivating over the Neo Geo titles they can or will soon be able to download through the Virtual Console, U.S. owners have not been so lucky. Sure, we knew that they were coming, we just didn't know which ones to expect. That was rectified yesterday by SNK, which announced that Fatal Fury, World Heroes and Art of Fighting would be coming to the US VC for 900 points a pop. More titles, SNK says, will follow up in the coming months. What we still don't know is exactly what date those months will be coming after. The first Neo Geo game hit Japan on Tuesday, but we have no clue when they'll be arriving here. Our psychic powers tell us it will be a Monday, but things get hazy after that.

Err there wasn't a Neo Geo game Tuesday. No explanation given.

Wish list:
Super Baseball 2020
Baseball Stars 2
Samurai Showdown 2
Nam 1975
Last Resort
Blazing Star
Cyber Lip (I'm a gonner!)
These are all small ram carts, they shouldn't take that much memory....=)
Matt B (SDF - White Gold Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 1:13PM
The original Baseball Stars was one of my favorite games ever.
2D @ Sep 13th 2007 1:49PM
You could have those games right now and save whole alot of money.
The beauty of Roms.
DarthDavid @ Sep 13th 2007 2:17PM
@2D....
I have the roms for these games....that's not the point, me as a videogame enthusiast/collector, out of respect for SNK/Playmore I will buy these games and continue to support those guys...I mean really 9 bucks, I guess its time to ask your mommy for a raise in your allowance. Hey 2-D change your name please, your insulting all of us.
bm @ Sep 13th 2007 3:53PM
Why stop there, 2D? You can download all your PC and console games too (very easily with connection speeds these days), imagine the kind of money you can save! You must think this whole videogame industry is a bunch of fucking retards trying to sell people bytes that they can just download online for free, huh?
Dr. Strangel0ve @ Sep 13th 2007 12:01PM
crosses fingers for Sengoku
those games were insane.
Kizzle @ Sep 13th 2007 12:02PM
Ha! 9 bucks!
XBLA just got a Neo Geo game for 5 bucks, and it had online play. Poor, sad Wii owners.
superberg @ Sep 13th 2007 12:12PM
On the other hand, Wii owners have a decent D-Pad on the classic controller. So the games will be playable for 9.00, rather than tolerable for 5.00.
Also, the Neo Geo games on XBLA have that trademark "blurry" scaling added, and I don't think you can turn it off. Ugh.
In conclusion, I'd rather pay 9.00 for a good version of Fatal Fury Special than 5.00 for a poorly ported one.
Shagittarius @ Sep 13th 2007 12:23PM
@superberg
As the NDF is fond of saying De Nile aint just a river in egypt.
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 12:24PM
Only Crono said it and laments how the pun doesn't quite work in text.
Negativecool @ Sep 13th 2007 12:28PM
Kizzle...[-] Points for making such a stupid flame against the Wii...4 dollar difference?...Well gee golly, obviously Microsoft's XBL isn't out for profit, only consumer satisfaction. Unlike those corporate monger Nintendo dogs!
superberg...[-] points to you for making an arguably worse statement with the lamest come back in history. Well at least my D-pad works jerkface! Clearly the Wii controls were sold with the only actually WORKING D-pad. Which by the way, must mean that the Wii has a better "port" of this Neo Geo game than XBL's "port." Clearly sir!
HineyWipe @ Sep 13th 2007 12:32PM
The 360's D-Pad sucketh...even if the XBLA games were free.
Vidikron @ Sep 13th 2007 12:34PM
The 360's d-pad isn't the best, but it does work for the Neo Geo games. I've played most of them on a hacked original Xbox and they play great.
superberg @ Sep 13th 2007 12:58PM
I'm not a fanboy. I own a 360. I just beat, and enjoyed BioShock.
That doesn't keep the 360 D-pad, or the XBLA Fatal Fury Special, from being craptacular.
Dissenting opinion /= fanboysim.
Jerk Face @ Sep 13th 2007 1:24PM
@ Negativecool
Why do you have to bring me into this?
...
...
Heh.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 13th 2007 2:36PM
Nintendo's D-Pads have always been the best, since they were invented by Gunpei Yokoi for the Game & Watch in 1981. They patented the hell out of them, so everybody else has to come up with a crappier version, and Microsoft was just unlucky enough to do the worst job at it this time around. No big deal. You don't buy a 360 for the D-Pad anyway.
Kizzle @ Sep 13th 2007 4:16PM
Thanks, I know when someone gets "negative points" it means deluded fanboys are pissed. I guess I made a good point.
Negativecool @ Sep 13th 2007 5:27PM
Well...actually I gave you [-] specifically because you made a BAD point. I will assume some others did the same.
Aerostratos @ Sep 13th 2007 12:13PM
Well I just hope they release all those Neo Geo Anthology disks over here on PS2. That's the way to go IMHO.
15-20 bucks for arcade perfect Neo Geo Translations of a series. Fatal Fury, Real Bout, Mark of the Wolves. Samurai Showdown, World Heroes. King of Fighters, Etc.
They already released Metal Slug and Art of Fighting.
It's just great to have em all if not most of em all on one disk.
Now if Capcom will just release that Dark Stalkers Collection over here.
ukickmydog (NDF - Heart Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 12:15PM
BUT, would you rather have the entire collection of games on a BRD? i mean, it's gotta do something other than play movies right?
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 13th 2007 2:38PM
Look guy, I got dibs on Heart. Months ago I used to lurk on Joystiq 24/7 just waiting for the NDF to bus out our rings so I could call Heart each time. Don't make me sensor bar grappling hook and nunchuck nunchuck you down.
ukickmydog (NDF - Earth) @ Sep 13th 2007 3:00PM
fine, i'll be the token black guy
Negativecool @ Sep 13th 2007 12:14PM
Agh, Neo Geo...the PS3 of its time...Mmmm nostalgia.
GRANTED @ Sep 13th 2007 12:16PM
i would like a ps3 version of metal slug
Jonah Falcon @ Sep 13th 2007 12:21PM
I played the Geo version of Mr. Do! endlessly on my emulator.
Sean @ Sep 13th 2007 12:31PM
Hahaha what were they thinking with that logo??
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 12:33PM
599 USD
Sean @ Sep 13th 2007 12:39PM
And how!
megaStryke @ Sep 13th 2007 12:37PM
GameTap already has an ass-load of Neo-Geo titles. Given that GameTap gives you unlimited play of roughly 1000 games for only $10 a month and a sampling of those titles are cycled on the FREE service and online multiplayer is growing on the service, both XBLA and VC (and by extension PSN as well) are getting boned.
So suck that down.
Sean @ Sep 13th 2007 12:40PM
:sucks it down:
Mmm, delicious.
Hirsbrunner @ Sep 13th 2007 12:40PM
Beats the hell outta paying $200 a pop for them. It still boggles my mind how anyone could've paid that for one game on the Neo Geo.
Obie @ Sep 13th 2007 12:55PM
Cool, but my question is HOW THE HELL WILL ALL THESE GAMES FIT? Seriously my memory is in low supply, and the SD card option is worthless.
DaiMac79 @ Sep 13th 2007 1:08PM
While I can't lie and say I'm happy to pay 9 bucks for something I could get on my xbox for 5, there are a few things that argue for the Wii version, IMO.
1) By having actual GC ports on it, my Wii allows me to hook up my PS2/Xbox/GC arcade sticks up, so I don't have to mess with a d-pad at all.
2) Call it silly, but I can barely justify turning on the 360 at this point for anything less than a new game, it had some graphical glitches while loading Stranglehold day before yesterday and I freaked out. I just want to play through the single player Halo 3 and some multi before this (my third console) develops serious issues as well. The Wii would have to actually catch fire before I would have similar concerns about it.
That said, some type of discount/bundling system would make the VC a little easier to justify, pricewise. Too bad we've already bought enough games to prove to Nintendo that they have things priced correctly ;)
SimonBob @ Sep 13th 2007 1:11PM
Dang it all, Nintendo! I want to spend 800 points on EarthBound, not 900 on arcade fighters. Everybody should be able to get behind that.
hydralisk456 @ Sep 13th 2007 1:26PM
I'm with ya brother! We need EarthBound NOW!
Sean @ Sep 13th 2007 1:25PM
I am behind it 100%. And I am behind getting Mother 3 translated and released here, somehow.
T3H WICKERMAN @ Sep 13th 2007 3:24PM
I will NOT buy a wii til they put earthbound out. One of my favorite rpgs growing up. Why not put all of them out for vc downloads the already had an enlish version of mother 1. Nintendo passes up most of its good opportunities though so no suprise. Its time, give us earthbound u bastards.
Raikage (NDF - PK THUNDER RING) @ Sep 13th 2007 1:26PM
Hmmm, I'd like Samurai Shodown, I've played that once. Maybe King of Fighters. I wish we could buy 100 points at a time...
Does the PS3 get games like these to download, or is it just 360 and Wii? I know about flOw but I'm not sure about any others.
David @ Sep 13th 2007 2:16PM
PS3 did get some games like these in Japan, at least. In fact, they got my super-by-far-all-time-favorite, "Last Blade," which is a truly delicious fighting game.
joeyg @ Sep 13th 2007 1:30PM
i bet most of you fanboys never heard of Neo Geo...lets just say the PS3 is a bargain compared to Neo Geo Prices. I won't even mention the price of the games.
Mr Khan @ Sep 13th 2007 2:38PM
Ok, Fatal Fury's a good start
Now show us King of Fighters, Samurai Showdown, and Neo Turf Masters
I also echo all sentiments about Mother.
jadnice @ Sep 13th 2007 4:32PM
Hmmm... Now can Nintendo give us a better storage option. DO U HEAR THAT NINTENDO!!!!
yomachaser @ Sep 13th 2007 5:22PM
The max size of a neo geo cart was 330 mbits, thats only 41 mbytes before you compress it. The games won't be that big at all.
B1gC72 @ Sep 13th 2007 6:44PM
i never really got into the whole Neo Geo thing but i remember this vertical shooter that i used to play at our old local arcade/skating rink called Aero Fighters (i think Sonic Wing in japan). i would love to see that game come to the virtual console. maybe eventually.
Oreo @ Sep 13th 2007 9:19PM
Way too much!
I thought MS cost too much this is even worse. It seems MS is being smart and selling these cheap, there is no need for these to cost $9!!!
baby sea tuna @ Sep 14th 2007 9:45AM
JEEEEZUS! 9 bucks a pop?!?
Thanks, but no thanks. Not even for Samurai Showdown.
kftgr @ Sep 14th 2007 10:04PM
It's a rom...not for 9 bucks.
@yomachaser
Actually, the Neo Geo did move to larger carts. I remember when the "330 Megashock" motto became a "Gigashock" motto. Anyway, their biggest game would have been Garou, which sits at 688 Mbits = 86 MB.
