Wickerman, was I responding to a comment you made? I don't think I commented on any that were actually sarcasm.

Either way, some desperate comments from both angles. I enjoy a good flame war too, but sometimes the insight is scary.

Insight: people are tards

Has anybody else ever compared fanboyism with religious fanaticism? It's rather entertaining.

Don't tell me you spent $1,250 (before tax) on 3 consoles within the last 2 years, and you're calling us out for arguing about what console purchasing decisions we think are better values...

That's mind-boggling.

And you're wrong. My Wii IS my girlfriend.

And anybody who takes my "all 360 games are shovelware" zing seriously should go eat themselves.

@Rubang:

"Don't tell me you spent $1,250 (before tax) on 3 consoles within the last 2 years, and you're calling us out for arguing about what console purchasing decisions we think are better values..."

But I spent almost ten times that recently to finish my basement this summer, and even more than that to buy a truck last summer.

For some reason, I don't think that I will be getting any replies about those purchases along the lines of:

"Holy shit dude, you finished your basement first? Tard. Finishing the attic is where it's at, because the attic has the "exclusive" insulation!"

OR

"Trucks FTW!!! woot!! all you car lovers can suck my balls!!!"

So, I guess that I don't see why the paltry cost of a console or three brings about such fanaticism...

What do you need a basement for? WoW or something? I'm just saying, we spend a couple hundred bucks each and are fighting over who made the better purchase, taking our gaming tastes and our feelings about the industry into account, and I think you spent way too much money. I think all 3 systems have a couple gems here and there, but there's no way in hell I could afford all 3. I guess I could, but I also like to eat.

I'd argue attics and basements with you all day, but I don't think either of them are helping or hurting the video game industry. That's basically the ONLY difference though.

Look guys, we all KNOW that the Wii isn't capable of putting out the graphics of the XBOX360 or the PS3. And yes, the majority of games on the Wii are not "must have" titles. But c'mon, are we such graphic-whores or gaming elitists that we can't enjoy a good game on any console, and just appreciate that game?

All consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, their draws and their turn-offs. But isn't that the beauty of it? The fact that each can deliver an amazing experience in its own way?

The 360 has what is almost unanimously seen as the best online experience. It has some fantastic games on XBLA, great game demos, awesome multimedia features, and of course, the online multiplayer rocks. It also houses what are more less the better games at this moment, with Bioshock (which is the strongest contender at this moment for Game Of The Year), Gears Of War, Forza 2, and a little game called Halo 3.
At the same time though, it has that alarming failure rate, no HD movie playback via disc (w/o springing for the add-on), no Wi-Fi, and its online service requires a monthly fee. But all in all, I love my 360, and I think it was a great purchase on my part.

The Wii is a fantastic system in its own right. It has the most easy to understand control out there, and is extremely versatile with it (playing like an NES control, nun-chuck+wiimote, wiimote by itself, etc). Plus, the IR sensor will almost definitely see future use on consoles next generation, as it has been praised in many different lights - from Metroid's first-person perspective to Resident Evil 4's aiming or Super Mario Striker's goal-keeping. Plus, let's not forget Nintendo's greatest asset - themselves. EGM, IGN, and various other press have long considered Nintendo to be the "greatest video game developer in the world". And speaking of games, the Wii has arguably the best collection of (legal) downloadable titles, with highlights being games like Ocarina of Time, Super Mario Bros., Mario 64, and Super Metroid - games that regularly fill the number 1 spot in lists of Greatest games of all-time.
And though the downloads online are fantastic, the other aspects of the Wii's online are not up to par. It is sorely lacking in many aspects, from lag issues to online infrastructure - heck, to titles that even GO online. And yes, the game library isn't exactly stellar, though it may get more negative press than it deserves. Plus, what games it DOES have are not going to compare - graphically or technologically - to either of the other two systems. And yes, the Wii's control schemes are great; when they're done right. It seems like devs are having trouble with that, and heck, maybe the control scheme is too versatile, even to the point of confusing. But that doesn't make its games bad; developers are to blame for that. Again, I love the Wii, and I think it was totally worth my purchase.

The PS3 has - on paper - the strongest graphics capability this generation, between Blu-ray and its Cell processor. Plus, it has an online structure that almost compares to XBox Live...and it's free. Plus, they've taken the plunge into the motion-sensing control, and some games benefit from it greatly. Also, the PS3 may be the most versatile of all systems this gen, what with being a Blu-ray player, a multimedia center, a game system, a computer, and a soon-to-be DVR capability. And though its library may not quite equal that of its competition, its not the barren wasteland that people make it out to be; it has some great action titles, some thrilling racing games, and a great first-party development team. Plus, it has MGS4 and the next Final Fantasy as exclusives (at least as of this moment).
Still, that price tag is extremely high for people like me, the gamers. I don't watch many movies, I have my TV hooked up to my PC for multimedia, and I have a DVR already. I can't justify the price of it, since there aren't enough games I want to own on it (but I guarantee, the moment Sony announces the Shadow Of Colossus sequel, I will spring for one), and its exclusives tend to not remain exclusives, at least now. Plus, it seems like developers are struggling with it right now, and that's not a good thing. Also, its motion sensing, while applauded, is not as strong as the Wii's. Not to mention that fact that it arguably has the weakest library of downloads (Warhawk and Tekken being the exceptions), and that its lack of rumble doesn't go unnoticed.

You see that? All the major consoles, all the good things, all the negatives. All in all, they are good at what they're SUPPOSED to be good at - being fun.

I'm a gamer, and I take pride in that. I also believe that you readers - with your loyalty and your different opinions and your various tastes in entertainment - are the same way. So, be a gamer. Have fun. Embrace the wide variety of experiences.

Shut up and play.

Won't do the easy??? The Wii is the laziest "next gen" console out there. It's an overclocked GameCube with fairly modest improvements. And what is Nintendo's main staple of games? Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and more Mario. Nintendo are as lazy as they come.

Don't you folks ever get tired of always spouting the same old "GameCube 1.5" BS? Play the console first or just stfu.
