Steam Community officially launched
Valve has officially launched its Steam Community, a system akin to Xbox Live where you can check fellow player's stats, plan group events and access the community information from within any Steam game. Also available both in and out of game is voice chat.
The service is free addition to Steam users. Tell us what you think of it in the never-ending comment space below.

Kye Lewis @ Sep 14th 2007 11:25PM

kinshadow @ Sep 13th 2007 1:40PM
I think MS should buy Valve
Egster @ Sep 13th 2007 1:51PM
I hope not. Microsoft has no clue what PC gamers want.
Matt B (SDF - White Gold Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 2:03PM
Yes they do!!! ever hear of the AAA titles like Hearts, Freecell, Minesweeper, or Solitaire?!? Do you live under a rock?
Brock @ Sep 13th 2007 3:26PM
PLEASE DEAR LORD NO! We would have to pay 50 dollars a year, make you fill out all kinds of registration forms, block anything that wasn't made by M$, and not to mention add about 50 .dlls to my boot system index as well as crash constantly and then have a request to send them all my personal data not to fix, but to email me garbage and advertise.
rockintom @ Sep 13th 2007 3:54PM
Er, if everything Microsoft makes crashes, then how did you type that response?

I would like to test your theory of never ending comment space but then I'm too lazy.
Stupidiot @ Sep 13th 2007 1:49PM
Hmmm, and I'd like to test the theory of a never ending reply to comment space, now THAT is new and exciting.
Anyone?
Sirromnad @ Sep 13th 2007 1:57PM
I really love it. It's finally an improvement on their broken friend system they had. Hopefully it will stay working.
Jeff @ Sep 13th 2007 1:56PM
I've been using the beta-- it's easy to use, uses basically no resources, does everything it should... and nobody else uses it.
Hopefully that'll change.
Matt B (SDF - White Gold Ring) @ Sep 13th 2007 2:05PM
Just do a search for the [mygot] clan. You will love those guys.
KrazyIan @ Sep 13th 2007 2:24PM
Its awesome, been using it since beta.
SeriousKriss @ Sep 13th 2007 2:34PM
It's nice, but I think Xfire is still better.
Hoffer @ Sep 13th 2007 2:35PM
I was just asking in a forum the other day what the point was for friends in Steam. I get about one random friend request a month on Steam. I always deny it, because I have no idea who these people are.
I guess from this, it sounds like they have a new system. I love Xbox Live. I have a large friend list, which makes gaming with people that are not jerks easier. Hopefully I can build up my Steam friend list in the same way. I’ll check it out tonight.
pointfour @ Sep 13th 2007 2:51PM
Looks pretty nice, but where's the Joystiq group?
Christopher Grant @ Sep 13th 2007 3:06PM
Working on it :)
Poisoned Al @ Sep 13th 2007 5:59PM
WORK FASTER!
WiNG @ Sep 13th 2007 3:12PM
plzzz make a Joystiq group or at least a SDF/NDF group!
wako @ Sep 13th 2007 3:41PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
I hate the new interface. It looks better but it takes a lot more system resources (since it is a total process on its own) for it to run compared to the friends list in the past.
Poisoned Al @ Sep 13th 2007 5:59PM
If it works, it would swing my Orange Box purchase from the 360, back to the PC.
Also I love that bitter little black guy in the background. It's very becoming of Valve humour to be told to fuck off.
Reapz @ Sep 13th 2007 11:20PM
Now Valve just need to implement an in-built mp3 player and a way to voteban team killers and we'll be right to go.
And for the TK'ing thing, I mean in fun levels where people shoot out the floors underneath you. Fuck that pisses me off.
TheBlunderbuss @ Sep 13th 2007 11:57PM
The new Steam takes up new resources and is giving Wine-users headaches.
Valve will not consider making a Linux client. Microsoft would not either, if they bought out Valve.
