Samfish on the ugly Superman Ad, his first post with that handle:

'Jun 30th 2006 2:38PM As a person who does graphic design and layout for a living...'eh...it's not the best looking ad...
That's not to say it's a piece of shit ad, but the over all layout just stinks.
It does what it's supposed to...it leads your eye around the page to the chunks of copy...but it's boring.
It borders on looking more like an advertorial piece than an actual ad.'

I like the use of fecal matter and related smells that give the whole comment a feeling of revoltion. Good job sam!

Watch out Samfish. Calling out Vlad's gaming allegiances is what got him to delete both my old accounts. But damn, just on that most recent page of comments he's dissing the DS headset, DS hinge cracks, Wii Sports, and defective wrist straps. Who was still talking about wrist straps in April?

I bought a 3D0 (SF2 Turbo, Way of the Warrior (yeah I liked that one), Gex), but for some reason PS3 isn't attractive to me yet. I feel like I overpaid for the 3D0, and I feel like already owning a 360 there isn't a huge incentive to rush out and buy a Playstation3. The 360 has been out for awhile and has a ton of great games (there are some stinkers, but overall the quality control for the 360 exceeds the original xbox, ps2, etc). Once Sony has something comparable to the 360, then I might bite (MGS4/FF13/Killzone 2, etc). But for now it seems like a better deal to be a gamer on the 360 and just spend your money for more games, rather than another similar piece of hardware.

Why do 3rd party developers even bother with the Wii? Even the shittiest games for the 360 make it on the top 20 NPD chart, like Two Worlds. The 360 prints money for 3rd parties while the Wii prints money only for Nintendo.

I would buy a $399 PS3, but ONLY because I have over $300 built up in credit at Blockbuster (buy games low, they pay a bunch for trade-ins!), the blu-ray movies, and the few exclusives.

A part of me doesn't think the price of the ps3 is going to drop...

But then again even if it does it won't matter. It'll just mean more loss for them.

"But then again even if it does it won't matter. It'll just mean more loss for them."

Considering that the Halo sales might finally push the Xbox division into profitability, I'd say that hardware profit is only a concern to Nintendo. Both Sony and Microsoft are fighting a battle for a different sector. They have to now, since Nintendo took away the biggest audience.

The last drop doubled sales of PS3s from mediocre to decent. If another hundred dollars off manages to double sales yet again (or better), then I'd say the loss might just be worth it for Sony.

Razors and blades strategy...razors and blades.

Halo 3 will soon sell over 3 million coppies? Well, that's a no-brainer. It's being released world wide within the same week. Not only are North America and Europe stoked for this game, the Japanese are even getting behind the title. This thing will fly past 3 million sales within the first 72 hours. Why? Because there has already been over 1 Million preorders (hit 1 million back on the 9th August) and if Gears of War is anything to go on, it'll wizz past 2 million sales no problem.

As for Nintendo and 3rd Party games... The reason companies are pushing up rehashed old games onto the Wii instead of putting new games on is because 1) They didn't see the Wii taking off, so they held off making games for it, which is reasonable. The Gamecube failed miserably. 2) When they saw the Wii was doing good, they instantly noticed they're not making money out of it and decided to rehash some old gamecube/PS2 titles to cash in on the Wii frenzy. 3) Nintendo had to stick to their guns with the Wii, hence why their 1st party software is AAA grade and most 3rd party games seem lack-luster from rushed development cycles and rehashed games.

And for the $399 PS3? It's hopeful, but I don't see it happening. The 60GB PS3 was put down to $399 for one reason; to get it to sell. The only reason they are making another batch is because Sony does really have a heart and wants to clear it's Sony Store back orders. A 80GB PS3 selling at $399, I personally don't see happening for a good long while yet.

Not exactly. Attach rates say a lot about a system and its demographic. The Wii sells like hotcakes for one game and one game alone: Wii Sports. Right now it looks like a large percentage of Wii owners haven't purchased a single game while 360 owners buy games by the truckload. A developer will take this fact into consideration before taking the plunge.

All that the attach rates tell me is that the third parties haven't yet figured out how to tap into the Wii sports demographic, and the ones that have are just tossing shovelware "me toos" in an attempt to cash in, and apparently failing, for a number of reasons. I don't think the "Wiisports crowd" has any inherent affinity to first-party Nintendo games, the third parties, for the most part, just haven't figured out how to give them what they want.

My brother is casual gamer and bought wii.
he owns the followling: Wiisports, Wiiplay, Brain Academy and Carnival games. Attach rates and how they get them is very fuzzy math, basic sales data however is pure fact.
I used to own Madden but it wasn't for me. I bought Resident Evil 4 wii edition even though I already had 4 on cube. So I get some 3rd party games. If I remember correctly didn't red steel and rayman raving rabbids sold very well. I expect MYSIMS, EA PLAYGROUND, to sell well. You got to find right demos.

Madden never sold well on Nintendo systems, anyway all the Hype was for 360 version, and hardcore madden people are snobs who refuse to try new controls because they like the games barely being any different, Maddenites don't want innovation or new experiences they just want slightly tweaked games.

$400 PS3 might be likely for Japan, because PS3 is royally screwed in japan as Wii is destroying it hardcore, but in American I don't think Sony will do that. They will lose so much money and without a super big game to back up PS3 this year it won't matter what price it is.

Dropping the price on the ps3 will only spur sales of those who want a Blu-ray player. It's not going to raise sales to gamers because games sell consoles, not movies. No kid is going to ask for a PS3 for christmas when ALL the top games are either only available on 360 or better on the 360. They'll go where their friends are and that's with the 360.

The halo thing I can see happening. But a ps3 price drop announced at next week's TGS? Unless Sony is really that desperate to beat Microsoft, or just likes to lose money, I doubt we will be seeing another price drop anytime soon.

Halo 3 could be the best selling game of any September ever, but it will still be Microsoft's last hurrah before the Wii/DS combo KILL CHRISTMAS.

Remember the Wii last Christmas, when all we had was Zelda, Rayman, and Red Steel and had no online games? Imagine that Christmas times ten with a year of great press, great word of mouth, great releases and online multiplayer in the mix now.

EA will stop making sports games for the Wii.
My goodness Madden(xbox) outsold Madden(Wii). BTW the xbox has been discontinued.

This will sound the death knell for the Wii as history has shown.

That happened to the Dreamcast that no EA Sports games went to them but there were other factors like Sega had no good business accountants. Under the NFL exclusivity license they must put games under every platform even including GCN and Xbox1.

Halo 3 selling 3 million units in less that 2 weeks? I read that GameStop has 4 million pre-orders for Halo 3 already. One store, in one country. If that's true, then isn't it more likely that there's around 8 million pre-orders world wide at least, plus another few million being bought from normal non pre-order purchase?

Once the PS3 hits 400/450 the industry will be happy making stuff for it and consuemrs will but it happily.

WII prints money even if it only has 4 or 6 worth while games *L*

It's pretty bad when the Wiimote is actually their hottest selling game (Wii Play) for the last few months. First party is the only thing keeping Wii alive. Third party sells are running last in multi-platform games. Exclusives are nothing to brag about either. What your getting is games that were develop for other systems being remap and ported over to the Wii. With the PS2 having a much larger install base, this will continue. The original Xbox did an excellent job improving the graphics on PS2 ported games along with online play. As for the Wii pulling this off, forget about it. I would rather see the developer make it the priority system over the PS2 and PSP. But that'll never happen.
