Halo-themed 360 arrives on Sunday

If you've been eagerly anticipating being able to ditch your white 360 in favor of a marketing tool that also plays games, you'll get your chance when the Halo 3-branded Xbox 360 arrives, which we now know will be on Sunday, thanks to a handy press release from Microsoft.

That just leaves you 2 days to decide whether or not to take the plunge. The question is really more of personal one: Is it worth it to you to pay $400 for a 20GB 360 featuring a headset, a Spartan green-and-gold finish, a Play and Charge Kit and permanent guaranteed virginity? That's something you'll have to decide for yourself.

Seriously, just say the price is $460+tax. No one is buying this and not the game too. Not including the game is hilariously insulting.

Multiple EB managers confirmed for me that the new Falcon chip set will be in these. One EB manager actually confirmed that the system where in the store, and reassured me that the Falcon chip is 100% with these models. So it you didn't pre-buy the system have fun on Ebay..

I was just thinking the same.What's the point on owning a halo themed x360 if it doesn't includes Halo 3?,Not even Halo 2 or any other game?,It looks pretty IMO but is not worh it.

People getting this thing are getting a bad deal,I mean it doesn't even includes a wireless headset.Pros are going to buy this thing and they know only n00bs use the normal headset.

You guys are forgetting that there are 3 editions of Halo 3 being released.

MS knows that there are plenty of people who are going to pony up the $400 for this console, AND for the Collector's ($70) or "Legendary"($125) editions of Halo 3.

Why would they short change themselves by throwing in a copy of the standard edition?

How ugly is that thing?
I guess if my house had a redneck military theme to it (the kitchen, however, would be cow themed), then I'd buy that since it'd fit right in.

But otherwise...Eew, much?

hehe, I was subconsciously expecting it to have a RROD... because pretty much all the pictures of 360s I've seen on the internet for a long time have had that attribute

any word on if these are still to include the 65nm chip. Haven't heard much about the new chips for a while.

But the hidden "feature" that all the press will be buzzing about is going to a ORANGE Ring of Death to match :P

I'm getting it, for one. I like the military theme design, I'm into Limited Edition stuff (or "marketing tools", if you're an increasingly cynical blog) and I'm a huge Halo fan.

I agree. I actually like the look of it. I won't even consider buying it though, simply cause it doesn't have the 120GB drive. I don't understand why this is being released with just a 20GB drive.

Right there with you. Mine is paid off. And what does a white console say about you? Ot a launch console for that matter. I think there are bigger things to worry about. Besides, if some snobs here do as most people and spend 6 hours straight gaming then they are the last people that ought to throw stones over this.

I think the fact that I spent almost $200 on ebay for an E3 Faceplate for my original 360 already insures my re:virginity, so I'm not so worried about picking one of these up this weekend.

Still I don't hate the design as much as most people seem to...

Because guess what? Hate to break it to everyone, but any chick who thinks playing games on an army green Xbox is dorky, will think the SAME THING about playing games on a "piano black" PS3, or standard Xbox, or PC. (I know my wife thinks it's all pretty ridiculous)

It is an alright value. But that color. My god that color is hideous. That has to be "for the kids" or something because no self-respecting adult would plant that behemoth in their entertainment stand.

So, let me get this straight...people complain when the Japanese are the only ones that get limited edition colors for their consoles, however when we make one it is called a marketing tool that plays games? I think it is very cool that MS did this, even though I could personally care less about it. Regardless of whether you like the design or not, having special edition consoles has never been frowned upon in the gaming community.

Pete has a point there. We always want crap made in new colors like they get in Japan, and here you have it - even though the color is pretty weak.

I just don't see the point in spending the money on it if you have a 360 already. It wont make people like you more. I guess if you dont own a 360 and will be getting one for the game, then it is an option. Yet, it seems silly to me that folks waiting to spend money on halo 3 don't have a 360 already. I know they are out there of course, but I wouldn't think in enough numbers to justify this unit.

...I will admit though, if it was Viva Pinata styled, my GF would have bought it even though we dont need another one.

Wasnt H2 special ed trasparent plastic grass green - that was pretty cool. This one is definitely not for gamers over 14.

It'll sell like hotcakes, but if they really wanted to sell these things, they’d have made it $459 and bundled it with a standard edition copy of Halo 3 inside. How many people would have bought one just to be able to play Halo 3 8 days early?

Yeah, but if they bundled it they wouldn't release it before the game comes out. This is way too big of a marketing stunt to allow people to buy it earlier than others. (See: You will be fired if you open the box early articles)

It should have been the Blue-Black-Orange colors of the Mt. Dew Gamer Fuel cans.

Or the Blue of the "other" Halo 3 controller, or the Halo theme Blue.

Green was just not the best choice.
