Isn't this the 3rd or 4th week in the row the GBµ has gone up? Who the hell is buying these things, and what about those Gamecubes?
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 14th 2007 9:31PM
The numbers are so low on those guys it's probably statistical anomalies and however many units the stores actually had in stock.
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 14th 2007 9:29PM
We have weekly Japanese numbers because they're distributed weekly and are free. The NPD numbers for North America came out monthly and cost money. European sales charts are intermittent and are reported when they come. Japanese sales matter to Japanese companies.
BPM @ Sep 14th 2007 9:57PM
Hey, that's my job. :V
samfish @ Sep 15th 2007 1:32AM
HIT 'IM, BPM! Hit a man with glasses!
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 15th 2007 2:04AM
Where's my enhanced vision when I need it!?
N-Zero @ Sep 14th 2007 9:30PM
WoW why aren't the japanese buying systems. Are their no good games out in Japan. Guess they'll have to wait for Mario Galaxy, and Brawl to finally get those numbers up.
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 14th 2007 9:33PM
It's been suspected Reggie is redirecting supplies for America to lessen our shortages. There's also anecdotal evidence from Japanese retailers that they're starting to stock up for the holidays.
Egster @ Sep 15th 2007 6:13AM
That doesn't explain the fact that every system has a drop in sales.
Vince UK @ Sep 14th 2007 9:32PM
Neebs, when you get down to double/treble figures, it really does mean shit all.
BPM @ Sep 14th 2007 9:58PM
Treble? Where's Bass?
samfish @ Sep 15th 2007 1:40AM
Where's Mega Man?
samfish (SDF- Green Lantern Ring) @ Sep 16th 2007 4:31AM
Half a heart! At least somebody got that joke. I salute you, mystery plusser.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 14th 2007 9:32PM
Oh crap, all those red arrows formed a ladder for the Cube and Micro to climb all the way to the top! They'll topple the Wii/DS by Christmas!
hvnlysoldr (NDF - Wind Ring) @ Sep 14th 2007 9:34PM
Hey wait a minute. I just realized two things. This won't make a very good bonus ending for the next podcast and Ludwig forgot this week is also a DS sandwich where it's both top and bottom seller. Well I guess since Phat sold none it doesn't count.
BPM @ Sep 14th 2007 9:59PM
It's like having a sandwich without the bottom slice of bread. Which is rather messy.
Hmm... If you have a sandwich without the top slice of bread, it's called an open-face sandwich. So, what do you call it when the bottom slice is missing? Bare-ass sandwich?
samfish @ Sep 15th 2007 1:34AM
I have evolved beyond the need for sandwiches. It's all about the wraps, baby!
Brandon @ Sep 14th 2007 9:36PM
This is the week before the Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core on the PSP, and its bundle. I wonder what effect that will have, since it apparently sold well. I wonder will it result in some shake-up in the rankings.
Egster @ Sep 15th 2007 6:15AM
Crises Core sold 350,000 copies in one week. Of those there were 60,000 bundles.
NintendoFanbot @ Sep 14th 2007 9:39PM
Clearly Nintendo has ruined the Japanese gaming industry.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Sep 16th 2007 7:03AM
> the DS is the Deathstar.
DeathStar, DS abbreviated.
ZOMG!!! Isn't that a secret plan of Mr. Iwata (correction) Lord Sith!!??
blooh @ Sep 14th 2007 9:41PM
and as usual the japs buy ps3's by the truckload even though there aren't games for it...
Donald @ Sep 14th 2007 9:56PM
The DS Lite is a truckload. The PS3 is about the size of a small sedan.
samfish @ Sep 15th 2007 1:36AM
More like if the PS3 is a truckload then the DS is the Deathstar.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 15th 2007 5:57PM
Can we please turn Deathstarload into a regular part of our lexicon?
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Sep 16th 2007 7:04AM
> the DS is the Deathstar.
DeathStar, DS abbreviated.
ZOMG!!! Isn't that a secret plan of Mr. Iwata (correction) Lord Sith!!??
Donald @ Sep 14th 2007 9:56PM
Stupid question regarding the Phat (RIP): How many weeks does it have to have a 0 before it gets dumped from the figures?
silkylove @ Sep 14th 2007 10:03PM
Wow. I guess the Japanese are all saving up for the The Phantom.
BPM @ Sep 14th 2007 10:06PM
I heard N-Gage is making a comeback.
alex2ex @ Sep 14th 2007 10:35PM
why the ds is selling less? i know the wii is being redirected to US but no one has say anything about the ds, its been 3 weeks in a row now, usually just one week sell less and the next goes back to normal, maybe next week the PSP will finally top the charts.
skyrous @ Sep 14th 2007 11:58PM
Well either there holding back stock waiting for Christmas like they are with the Wii, or more likely given that they've sold half million a month for the last 21 months maybe supply has finally caught up with demand. You figure it had to happen at some point. They've sold 20 million units in a country of 127 million that's 16% of the population owns one. By comparison the PS2 has sold 24 million and you have to assume that every gamer in japan has at least one of those.
Catprog @ Sep 15th 2007 3:47PM
skyrous
They are still yet to outsell the PS2 LTD
skyrous @ Sep 15th 2007 8:08PM
Correct, they have sold 20 million DS's in japan while Sony has sold 24 million PS2's in the same market. My point was you should assume that every gamer in japan would own a PS2 by now so that 24 million number is probably the market saturation point beyond which anybody not owning a system isn't a gamer and doesn't care. The DS is getting close to that number so it would make sense that the sales would begin to soften.
ExMcloud @ Sep 14th 2007 10:38PM
Sigh...........good thing I only care about the NPD cuz the Japs play crap for games...Take Monster Hunter wash rinse repeat...
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 15th 2007 12:14AM
Take Madden or an FPS, wash, rinse, repeat. How you like them apples?
Word of the street. @ Sep 15th 2007 1:26AM
*In Boxy Brown voice:You say Monster Hunter is what B****.
Actually Monster Hunter series are really good, take MHF2 in the PSP for example. The game is enjoyable offline and online and one of the best games for the PSP.
Want to rant about a Japannese game?,Use Gundam games everyone knows Gundam games suck no matter the platform or the year.
samfish @ Sep 15th 2007 1:38AM
I choose to rant about Battle Raper II and the fact that I can't buy it on a console.
ExMcloud @ Sep 15th 2007 1:46AM
Hey contrary to belief Madden this year isn't bad...(Cant believe I admitted that) But anyway seriously Japs play crap for games....They like games like Dynasty Warriors Gundam...Come on
See I put Gundam in there instead...lol
sheppy2.0 @ Sep 15th 2007 12:36PM
You guys just don't know. ZEIG ZION!
Jouten @ Sep 15th 2007 7:06PM
watdafuxup with the 'jap' slang? Were we sent back in time to the 1950's?
C'mon peoples! Well, I guess it's still possible, I hear these kind of things on XBL all the time...
RoboChamp @ Sep 14th 2007 11:52PM
..erm... I'll probably be skinned alive/ voted down into oblivion for this, but, *stewie's high pitched novel voice* it wouldn't be too far-fetched to suggest the Wii hype-bubble has burst in Japan...just maybe...?
*hears the sharpening of axes*
Oh crap.
skyrous @ Sep 15th 2007 12:04AM
Unlikely, If you were going to design a console specifically for the Japanese market you'd design a Wii, the Japanese LOVE novelty.
It's rather a bigger surprise that it's taken off in the rest of the world especially America. I think Nintendo realizes this and knows the Japanese market will still be there later but they need to product into the American distribution channels while the hype is still loud here. The NPD numbers for the next couple of months should tell us for sure.
Rubang B (NDF - Heart) @ Sep 15th 2007 12:15AM
The Wii already won in Japan. Now they're coming after America. It's gonna get dirty, and it might take until Marchish, but it will happen.
License to ill @ Sep 15th 2007 3:18AM
The honey moons over.
Welcome back to earth wii...
Korova @ Sep 15th 2007 10:34AM
GO-oooooooow Cube!
Seriously, is there any fact to support the idea that kids who go do school in september stop buying games and systems for a few weeks? They got like backpacks and pencils to buy. Or at least the moms do.
But then by the end of september, its bai teh haloz time again.
look#% @ Sep 15th 2007 10:44AM
could it be that almost everyone in japan owns a ds and a wii by now and well the xbox 360 had no chance in japan starting the day that microsoft opened in the u.s.a. while the ps3 well ......................... what can you say no games for it right now ,
Catprog @ Sep 15th 2007 3:52PM
there both still to outsell the PS2 LTD.
Chris @ Sep 15th 2007 2:20PM
Nintendomination. corny i know, but it doesn't make it any less true.
License to ill @ Sep 15th 2007 11:20PM
Who Dat...
gone with the wind @ Sep 15th 2007 6:34PM
@ catprog they may be both out selling the ps2 ltd but around the 2nd year the ps2 started selling in high numbers, i doubt the xbox will ever pick up in japan the ps3 probably will when games start coming in later this year.
