SDF was played off Japan's military Special Defense Force. They can't technically have an army due to the McArthur Constitution instituted after WWII. So it's like a war with soldiers can't physically attack each other.

Jhonen had to make a decision. And it was a bad one for anyone to make.
A. Increase episode production essentially watching the quality of the show degrade into nothingness. Seriously, Nickelodeon was expecting him to match Spongebob production rates. I'm sure we can all agree quality would suffer under that issue and ultimately, Jhonen would not be happy. Interesting side note, I still can't believe they got the voice of Smurfette to play Ms. Bitters.
B. Say "Fuck this shit" and let the show go out on a high note.
I'm just pissed the whole ordeal turned him off from forever. Or for an indeterminant amount of time.
