I want to know what people here think. Eternal Sonata or Blue Dragon? Very different RPGs, one with a traditional RPG system and the other with a modified one? My only worry is that I'm not a huge cell shaded, childlike RPG fan, and that Blue Dragon is more my taste, but I keep hearing such bad reviews of the first Blue Dragon disc.

The "calm" before the storm. Halo 3 is here next week. A little more than a week left. 7 days, 9 hours and 15 mins.

Wow, I won't be able to work next Monday cuz I'll be giddy with excitement.

@2 - Blue Dragon is decent and perhaps more hated than it deserves to be. The battle system eventually gets pretty interesting, but it's nothing really new per se. If you're into traditional RPGs the first disc is manageable, but we're also at a point where the PS2 has seen some of its best RPGs in the past year or so... by comparison, Blue Dragon is disappointing, particularly as a showcase for RPGs in the next generation.

I've not played ES, but I have heard that about ten hours in it throws all story out the window and just winds up being confusing and weird. I don't know how many reviews that that into account, although I have come to find that most places never come near to finishing RPGs for reviews to begin with.

You guys are crazy. Eternal Sonata is going to be great. In fact I might not even pick up Halo 3 until I'm done with it.

(yeh right..)

Yeah me too, I'm picking ES right after I have my fill of Halo 3, which is about a 2 months or so. :(

I don't understand why people are talking about Eternal Sonata so much. It wasn't that much fun when I played the demo and the child like setting actually made the game embarrassing to play when anyone else was around.

before i even read the blog i want to say that Tombstone is a heck of a fucking movie. Val Kilmer is AWE-SOME. Props to Sense for the Quote. Nocturne is a great listen if anyone is musically inclined in that direction.

I am never going to finish a game at this rate. Bioshock, Blue Dragon, Skate, tomorrow I pick up Eternal Sonata and Halo 3 next week. That's it, I am going to give up sleeping.

Nice Tombstone reference.

"This here's a nocturne." "A which?"

Anyone who doesn't get it needs to watch the movie immediately because it's totally boss.

Eternal Sonata is such a GREAT GAME! Loving it right now. Hopefully I'll finish it before HALO 3 comes out.

But seriously go out and get Eternal Sonata. It truly is a wonderful game. I was all amped for Blue Dragon but the demo was boring as hell and ES took me by surprise.

Two comments, not that anybody should care:

1.) I am apparently one of four Xbox owners in the country that totally fail to understand why everybody loves Halo so much. The story is kind of neat, I guess, but the action is so arcade-y and loose so it's not really that fun in single-player. Online, 90% of the people are 15-year-old douchebags that just want to yell COCK COCK COCK in the headset as loud as they can the whole time. Emphatic "meh".

2.) I *was* all pumped about both Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata until I played both demos. Why must chibi-anime-bullshit graphics ruin everything good? Seriously, you can't spit in the DS section of Gamestop without hitting seven different games with caricature-anime cutscenes and that same squeaky-voiced guy doing the animal sidekick. Looks like Blue Dragon is no exception; it would have to be *really* fun to get me over that hump. Pass.

On the upside, I think Eternal Sonata has visuals similar to Dark Cloud 2 (which was amazing), and of course the music kicks ass. I'm really eager to see what they do with that one. I probably won't get it on launch day, but I expect to try it out eventually.

Based on demos, ES > BD
I will probably buy Eternal Sonata, but I'm not sure when... perhaps after Halo3, perhaps tonight on my way home...
