It seems kind of obvious to me, it's not that the man characters are gay or not, it's that the female humanoid alien just likes getting it on with everybody.

To quote Henry Rollins' standup: "It'd be great being bi. You could just walk into a room and go, 'Mmmmmm.'"

I have no idea if this game will have a command line but, if so, perhaps this is how you will play.... :)

Capt Kirk would be jealous...even he never had it this good back in the old Star Trek series....

As a gay man I'm disappointed by this, while I appreciate it may be story constraints rather than predjudices (though there was a fade to black with the male/male romance in Jade Empire iirc, shockingly) in a role playing game I'd like to be able to pursue a romance how I choose rather down merely hetero fantasy lines, where's my fantasy damnit :P

It doesn't smack of story constraints - just dialogue. Gotta understand, there's 200,000 lines of dialogue from what I understand - on one DVD-9 disc.

i agree - story, shmory. Someone came up with the story, its not gospel brought down from the mountain. Its chosen. Timid exploration of sexuality is what it is. Alien sex is just a mask for intercultural sex, in my box. Same sex, same gender, cross gender, trans gender those are different territories to explore.

I guess the writer didnt have the fortitude and just stuck to what 12 year olds think is hawt.

"Would that small portion of women actually want to see two gay men fucking?"
Yes. Holy god yes. Fun fact: Shows like Queer as Folk are primarily aimed at women, not gay men.

Ladies like watching gay men fucking like you wouldn't believe.

its natural for women to be attracted to other women. girl babies suck on titties just like little boy babies. hopefully no babies are sucking man boobs, or worse yet, cock.

Wow. So if a boy is raised nursing from a bottle instead of being breastfed, is he more likely to be gay because he didn't have a breast to guide him to the light? What the hell are you talking about? Sexuality is not based on your mother... unless... hey, whatever floats your boat, Oedipus.

Uh oh, no gay sex in Mass Effect! *All the gay gamers buy PS3s*

No, but seriously, this isn't that bad. Depending on the circumstances, this could either simply be a case of artistic freedom, and the developer choosing what works best for the game, or blatant fanservice for young males. If it is the latter, I'll be very dissapointed in BioWare, but otherwise, they deserve to do what they want.

If you want hot boy on boy action leave in the bedroom, I'm not to interested in having it in my games anyway. In jade empire it was no big deal because they didn't cram it down your throat... You had to explore that possibility before you could even tell he was gay.

You're not going any boy-on-girl or girl-on-girl action either. This isn't an AO game.

Funny to see how much angrier Jonah Falcon is getting in his posts.

Well, Jonah congrats, a thread on Mass Effect where you can talk about the game in context and not just be trolling like you get 5 cents off each copy they sell.

Hmm... Let's see. I'm hetero, so male on male= yuck, but female on female= hot. But that means I'll have to play as a female. Let's just hope that nobody has a smooth forehead.

You do know that there's male-female romance in the game, right?

PS. There's NO SEX. It's ROMANCE, not PORN.

I don't recall Troi bending over and begging for Worf and Riker to DP her.

Didn't bother to read all the comments, but I REALLY hope that people won't make a shitstorm about this. Bioware doesn't have anything against homosexuals I'm sure, but a homosexual sex scene, in this age and day as sad as it is, is "too much" for a videogame like mass effect. I would even say it might affect its sales negatively. Purely business people, no need to get all hurt over this.

So what you're saying is if someone's an asshole for business reasons, we shouldn't consider them real assholes, just greedy cowards, nor should we criticize the assholes who create the market demand for lesbian action but not man-on-man action? You seem to be encouraging a very passive method of social progress.

The whole premise of the Joystiq post seems to be that we're all Larry Craig douchebags if we let our double standard, hypocritical beliefs keep on flourishing, in games, politics, and so forth. I think we're all aware that Bioware can't make a game starring a fat, black, female, homosexual Muslim as a main character anytime soon and expect the game to sell well, no matter how well crafted the game's graphics, story and gameplay is.

But, at a certain point market demands need to take a backseat to what we think is morally right. A certain game that features Big Daddies tried to hammer this idea home, but I guess a lot of people didn't pay attention.

My personal take on this story (if true) is that since there are many more gay men than gay women in the world, it makes more sense to feature gay male relationships in a game than gay female relationships. A lesbian relationship for the primary reason of pleasing STRAIGHT MALES is practically turning the game into a porn game.

If they put their backs into it a fat, black, female, homosexual Muslim might be pretty cool. That's how art is made - by tastefully crossing the lines we are draw in our mind.

As some point video games will take this role from movies. But at this point the technical and economic barriers are too high for cutting edge artistic achievement in video games. There are just not enough gamers. But joystiq is working on it.

Why does the game have to be a platform for gay rights, maybe its just a game. It doesn't have to be either a "step forward or step back for sexual politics", I would have to imagine that the majority of gamers could give a rip as long as they get to do what they are really buying the game for...have a really great futuristic RPG experience.

Last time I checked real life sexual politics really isn't part of that equation.

Here's an idea, perhaps it was just a typo. The reason I find this plausible is because they didn't list that the female character could have any relationships with male humanoid aliens which strikes me as strange.

Yeah I thought that too but the fact that the alien race consists of all "females" made it plausible.

Why are videogames even being USED for a battleground for sexual politics. Who cares, they make what they want to, the makers of this game aren't responsible for social change.
