Bungie: Special Halo 3 surprise before launch

Over on the NeoGAF forums, Bungie's own new kid on the block Luke Smith commented about the company's plans leading up to the release of Halo 3. Smith mentioned that Bungie will be releasing information on matchmaking, a few how to guides, some Forge talk, a tour of Bungie.net and a special two hour podcast will be released too. But then Luke messes with our heads mentioning that Bungie will reveal a "long awaited pre-launch surprise" sometime before September 25th. How dare he dangle such a large carrot in front of us.

So guys, what could the long awaited surprise be? We don't want to get our hopes up too much seeing that we pretty much know all there is about Halo 3, but we're thinking it may something to do with the community, the website or a future project. We give you permission to put on your speculation caps and share your thoughts. What could Bungie's surprise be? Speculate ... NOW!

Um, Dash update for clan support?

Maybe it's Halo 3 Shaped Candy Corn from Brachs, the worldwide leader in candy corn Flava! It's that time of the year!!! So Bungie/Microsoft have found YET ANOTHER way of marketing. Trick or treat biatches!

I think it's clearly clan support. But it will come in the form of the Fall update.

Yeah, I'm with you guys. Wouldn't it be great if the fall update with clan support was released the day before Halo 3's release. That would be Monday. The perfect pre-launch surprise.

I'm going to take a creative stab and suggest that the game somehow can allow you to play on former multiplayer maps by way of disc swap. go to options menu -> input old halo game, -> save maps to HD -> play with halo 3 engine. (don't forget those halo 2 ass-on maps are already on the HD)

I guess it's possible.
But don't sign your first born away for it.

I couldnt care less about clan support. I dispise clans in any game! Ive been wondering if they would surprise everyone and make Halo 3 on Vista with cross-platform play......?

actually, for the first 3 days of halo3's release, EVERYONE will have xbox live gold. one of their little marketing plans to get people to say, "hey, this is pretty cool. i'll shell out $50 bucks a year for this."

Is the surprise that people are already getting the game?

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this yet but we might see more footage of the live action Halo videos. Possibly one where Master Chief is introduced. A Halo Wars demo also sounds possible as well as a Halo MMO. I am very hopeful about a project like that as I believe there is a ton of story they could provide.

However, I'll bet it's going to be clan support. Not really much of a huge announcement but oh well.

With the "long awaited" part in their comment it can't be anything but a dashboard update to add a clan blade for clan support organized in one place.

Why would Bungie get to announce dashboard clan support? Wouldn't that be more up Major Nelson's alley? In-game I could see, but really? The dash?

Now I'm not sure if that is standard or you have to pay for the premium hosting service from bungie for that. Look it up.

I hope that the surprise is what I have been saying should have been done as early as HALO: CE: the ability to hear cortana in your headset.

rumor mill has it that it could be an extra 10-30 minutes of added gameplay on the legendary edition(to expand on what may happen to master chief)...which the collectors and reg. editions will not have..rumor only though!

its all about the DLC. If you have listened to the last Major Nelson podcast with Geoff Keighly they totally hint at dlc coming soon after launch!
