CoD 4 beta still helping with dev, not gold yet

Infinity Ward employee fourzerotwo and the only guy who updates us on the latest Call of Duty 4 happenings, posted a little update about the CoD 4 beta and cleared the air about rumors of the game officially going gold.

First thing is first, fourzerotwo confirmed that he has been playing a nearly final build of CoD 4 online, but the game is not 100% done yet or ready to be shipped. So, per the definition of gold status, we have no gold announcement just yet. Knowing that factoid he also wanted to reiterate the fact that those who are playing the beta are still helping the Infinity Ward development team, because they are still getting useful information daily. True, the CoD 4 retail version is pretty much finalized, but the information they gain from the online beta is and will be used to create patches, tweak gametypes and update their internal network. And here this past week we were thinking we were just playing for fun. Sheesh, it's good to find out that we were actually working while playing the beta and so now we think it's time to head back to work ...

At least this game doesn't have the disgusting media and marketing barrage that Halo3 does. Halo3 soda? Gimme a fucking break.

i had to look up that perk, but now i agree.. martyrdom would be fantastic! i love cod4 beta to death.. i can't wait to pick up the full version

I still haven't gotten an invite. I know it's unbelievable but true. Neither has my brother. We both signed up to the site months ago. Also didn't get in on the Gamespot one. *sigh*

The beta is great but what really pisses me off is the fact that you can detonate C4 by shooting it. I know from personal experience it can't explode from a spark or intense heat. It is non-volotile, which is why we even still use it. You can set it on fire and let it burn and still be totally safe. A claymore is a different matter though, the electrical firing system in it isn't as safe as using C-4 by itself. Sometimes it will explode on its own or you could perhaps detonate it with a shot if you hit it right on the detonator well.

Unfortunately also for this game, Halo 3 will crush it like a bug.

Great! So the multiplayer in the retail will probably be as broken and laggy as the beta. Foot shots will be just as lethal too! Yay!!

Hey IW ... when you get around to getting those patches out and updating your internal network, let me know. Until then, I'll just keep playing Halo 3. Thanks.

@10,, have you never heard of a patch being available upon a game launch? just because the SP is complete and the game has likely gone gold doesn't mean the MP netcode won't be improved prior to launch.

@9, i wouldn't be so sure about halo crushing this game. the fact that it comes out over a month later means that people will have already completed halo3 SP and will probably be already getting sick of the Halo 3 MP community

We're still looking at 45 days until the game is available at retail.

My guess would be that IW hopes to have an update sitting and waiting on LIVE that will address the multiplayer issues by the time Nov 5 rolls around.

I disagree completely. Check how many people still play HALO 2, despite so many people calling it a huge letdown (I think it is one of the best FPS out there). If Halo 3 is as good as I think it will be with forge and the insane customization options available, people will most certainly not be getting sick of it after only ONE MONTH!

@16 don't get me wrong I'm sure H3 will be played and loved by many for many years to come, but by Nov 5 i think that the majority of people who are hardcore halo fanboys (not saying this in a derogatory sense) will be looking for something new.

so halo will not crush Cod4 in fact I think COD4 will perform quite well due to the widely-spread and widely-enjoyed MP beta.

(besides for something to crush something, does it have to come after?...i.e. "halo3 will crush shadowrun" etc. how can it pre-crush something? maybe cockblock but not crush)

I think COD4 will do good, figure its going to come out and the PS3 as well and there really isnt that many good games for that system. After looking at the MGS game play videos COD4 looks way better.

The beta is a blast, I'm having more fun with it than the Halo3 beta, granted I'm terrible at FPS games I still manage to have fun vs the frustration at times in Halo with the PKs.

I hope they fix the broken party system. If we have a party of 4 and try to join other servers only half of the party makes it in. Sometimes after repeated attempts we can all get into the same room... but usually not.
