New Guitar Hero II DLC adds Trivium, Atreyu and Protest the Hero
Guys who we were always afraid of in high school rejoice! The new pack of Guitar Hero II songs dowloadable through Xbox Live tomorrrow morning (according to ScoreHero) is sure to bring a smile to the Endless Mikes of the world. 500 points will net you (careful of profanity in these links) Trivium's "Detonation," Atreyu with "Right Side of the Bed" and Protest the Hero's "Bury the Hatchet." Wow, why do we have the sudden urge to draw pentagrams on a binder with Wite-Out?This pack comes a month after the last offering: A My Chemical Romancextravaganza, and we're wondering if they're still going to feel like trotting out the black paramilitary gear when they hear how loud their new neighbors can scream. Here's hoping everyone gets along just fine.
[Thanks, Pat]

Speaking of, am I the only one who wants to see some Polaris in a Guitar Hero/Rock Band game? Usually feel like the only one with the album, so probably....
T3H WICKERMAN @ Sep 19th 2007 11:26AM
no we all NEED polaris in GH (available on itunes!). How bout some more metal thats not so high schooly ie Mastodon, Anthrax, or MORE MAIDEN!? (yeah to contradict myself i would settle for some Cradle of filth)oh and how bout some more DETHKLOK?
Dracula Jones @ Sep 25th 2007 5:07PM
Is that a shot from the single greatest episode of television ever, "Yellow Fever"?
baby sea tuna @ Sep 19th 2007 8:59AM
At first I thought they were abandoning GHII DLC since GHIII and Rock Band (which I played last night and is AWESOME) are coming out soon, but now that they're coming out with this and My Chemical Romance packs, I only wish that they'd abandoned it. I mean, how about some music for the people that don't wear eyeliner and shop at fucking Hot Topic?
Please? I won't even complain about the prices!
copa @ Sep 19th 2007 9:52AM
I will. The prices suck.
baby sea tuna @ Sep 19th 2007 10:03AM
Yeah, well, they're not gonna change.

do some research before you go around wielding music stereotypes. I bet more frat bros and jug heads listen to these bands than the outcasts.
Martin @ Sep 19th 2007 12:20PM
Ha ha! Coming from someone named doomcloud, that defense is almost tragic! I give you [+] 1 for laughter.
doomcloud @ Sep 19th 2007 1:32PM
who's defending anything asshat, these bands are mostly shit, just saying the stereotypes dont make any sense. I hate it when bands are categorized as being satanic or whatever just because of gross generalizations or guilt by association. Just because its not hootie and the fucking blowfish doesnt mean they wear mascara and fuck corpses
g.Park @ Sep 19th 2007 9:18AM
Atreyu and Trivium deserve the lashing they get, but don't lump Protest the Hero in with those guys- they're leaps and bounds ahead in terms of musicianship, writing, and integrity.
Tiger of PTS @ Sep 19th 2007 10:47AM
lol
Gamster @ Sep 19th 2007 9:22AM
Trivium, **** Yeah.
jsn @ Sep 19th 2007 9:23AM
this may be the first song pack I don't get...
jynxycat @ Sep 19th 2007 9:52AM
If you bought the MCR pack, you have no right to shun any other band on earth.
jsn @ Sep 19th 2007 10:10AM
Sure I do. I'm not a big fan of theirs but at least the song were catchy enough that my party goers enjoyed playing them. Trivium and Atreyu are just... dull.
g.Park @ Sep 19th 2007 10:14AM
I liked MCR better when they were called The Used.
I liked The Used better when they were called AFI.
I liked AFI better when they were called the Misfits.
Jack @ Sep 20th 2007 9:29AM
And to think I'd be the only one to catch a Pete and Pete reference. Well played, McElroy.
murph @ Sep 19th 2007 9:31AM
who, who and who? for the same price as The Ramones, Ozzy, and Bad Religon? ahahahaha!
P.S. how's those claims of "the most DLC...EVA" coming along?

Did you guys know there are CUSTOM Guitar Hero 2 games out for 360 now on newsgroups?
alt.binaries.games.xbox360
http://www.newzbin.com/browse/post/2650759/
I guess they can do the same for PS2. The scene has figured out how to replace the game's original music and insert their own note charts. The only niggle is that they haven't modified the set list text in-game , but it sounds and plays fine. The release above just came out 2 days ago, so expect more to come since the process was just finalized August 30th.
CUSTOM GH2 discs are awesome! Oh, and you'd need a modded box to play them though. YARGH!
Baldrash @ Sep 19th 2007 10:08AM
Custom Guitar Hero 2, at least on the PS2, has progressed a long way. You can customize the set list names, which hero/guitar you use in Quick Play, add different fret boards, change the loading screen messages, etc.
I've got a half-completed custom job sitting around on my hard drive. I should get back to it at some point.
ShortFuse @ Sep 19th 2007 10:56AM
Yes, but with the CRC stay intact? You know, so you don't get banned from Xbox Live, if you weren't banned already.
JJ Rooster @ Sep 19th 2007 12:19PM
No I think the CRC doesn't match (haven't checked myself) but I won't go on Live when playing it anyway. Not sure if this one's a big enough deal for MS to check against. I'll give up Live for regular custom GH mixes though.
Adam @ Sep 19th 2007 9:51AM
Still expensive... and waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too loud for me. Screaming and rapid drumming do not music make.
jynxycat @ Sep 19th 2007 9:53AM
Maybe for your 50th birthday, you kids will buy you a Rolling Stones' greatest hits record or something.
g.Park @ Sep 19th 2007 10:13AM
Really, what does your band sound like?
baby sea tuna @ Sep 19th 2007 10:05AM
Sweet burn.
Nekura @ Sep 19th 2007 10:08AM
Am I the only one pissed that they still haven't released the original GH1 and GH:80s tracks via DLC? I sold my PS2 once GH2 for the 360 came out because they said the franchise was staying here and that they were back-porting their previously released content.
With the 80s Edition being a PS2 exclusive, there's even more music I'm missing out on. (Granted, the one song that I really wanted was "After Midnight" by Limozeen, but still - a bunch of those on the disc would have been fun to jam to.)
I'm almost ready to pick up a used PS2 on eBay as it seems that they will never release all of the original content as promised. The price didn't bother me, but I would even buy a full-priced GH1 or GH:80s disc if that would make this possible.
Come on, Activision! Show us the love!
JJ Rooster @ Sep 19th 2007 10:30AM
GH1 and 80's edition converted to GH2 for 360, all on 1 disc! This is crazy!
http://www.newzbin.com/browse/post/2656107/
baby sea tuna @ Sep 19th 2007 10:36AM
No, I'm genuinely surprised that the 80s songs never came out for DLC. I was thinking there was probably a 2 or 3 week exclusivity window for PS2 then they'd start showing up on XBLA. At this point nobody that hasn't already bought it for PS2 is going to, this close to GHIII/RB so it would be stupid of them not to port the songs over. I mean, even if it was overpriced for the PS2 at $50 (and it was overpriced for the content,) they'd probably end up getting twice that in MS Spacebucks if they released it for d/l.
They must hate making money...
NATO_Duke @ Sep 19th 2007 10:17AM
All I want is the 80's stuff made downloadable for the 360. Otherwise I have to keep standing here looking stupid in my leg warmers and checkered vans.
rivaldi22 @ Sep 19th 2007 10:18AM
PROTEST THE GODDAMN HERO.
One of my favorite bands. So good.
Though, yeah, Trivium and Atreyu are kinda balls.
And yeah, like the other guy said, don't lump Protest the Hero with those bands, even though Guitar Hero decided to. They're not really the same kind of music. Trivium is just kind of metal, Atreyu is...eyeliner-bad, and Protest the Hero is like, part metal, part punk, part post-hardcore, and part math-core. Though genres are pretty obsolete in this day and age. But they have more to do with bands like The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Number 12 Looks Like You, and HORSE the Band than say Trivium or Atreyu.
And yeah, please don't judge them based on that YouTube video Joystiq posted. Their sound doesn't really translate into a tiny video camera, and it just sounds like a dog farting for 5 minutes.
Plaid Ninja @ Sep 19th 2007 10:34AM
Pentagrams.... um guys? This isn't Venom we're talking about here.

Damn I hate Protest the Hero and Atreyu... But god damnit I LOVE Trivium.
I may have to buy it *just* for the Trivium song.
And to all the Trivium haters, lrn2metal. That is all.
rivaldi22 @ Sep 19th 2007 11:41AM
I wasn't really hating on Trivium, I don't really know too much about them, admittedly, but I definitely know that they shouldn't be lumped together with Protest the Hero.
Not in terms of quality (don't get me started on how ignorant it is to call music "good" or "bad", haha), but rather in terms of style.
Protest the Hero are more a post-hardcore band with some metal sensibilities, in my opinion, rather than a straight-up metal band, especially considering their older, pre-Kezia sound.

"dying in your arms" or "pull harder on the strings of your martyr" by trivium would have been much more fun to play than detonation.
i can't count the number of times i air-guitared to pull harder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=chSNremdkcc
could you imagine how fun that would be in rock band?
xMx Reaper xMx @ Sep 19th 2007 7:12PM
wow.
just reading down through these comments makes me realize how much people have truly lost their taste in music.
no.
im not defending atreyu or even trivium at all.
but honestly.
look at protest the hero's musicianship.
their song writing.
and the style involved.
granted.
i dont generally listen to much music in their style.
their guitar player kicks ass.
its like saying that the fall of troy isnt a good band.
when their by far one of the most technical bands to exist.
their experimental.
and not afraid to try something different.
but.
also afer seeing the people that bash red octane for putting bands like in flames, and dragonforce on their.
you really need to learn what good music is.
also.
how about some fucking children of bodom?
by far one of the most talented bands coming from europe.
they deffinately deserve a look.
and i guarantee that half of the fucking people on this sight have no idea as to who they are.

I'd like to have seen dying in your arms as DLC too.. but hey, there are a lot of songs/bands not in there that I would like to be in there...
can't have em all you know..
still a cool game to play ^_^
