Released PS3 titles may become rumble compatible
Following the not-so-surprising announcement of a rumble-ready PlayStation 3 controller, Sony sent out a press release to list all of the titles that are compatible with the new controller. The list features pretty much every title in the console's library except for flOw and Lair.
Also mentioned in the press release is that "PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update." It sounds like a no-brainer, but we're hoping this means Sony will set the trend by updating all first-party games from Resistance to Heavenly Sword. For sake of being complete, we've alphabetized the list of compatible titles and posted it after the break.

Very nice.
p.s. Please, please do not say 'I thought rumble was last-gen'. It is getting really, really old.
Mr. P @ Sep 19th 2007 11:57PM
I think people are just a little jealous that PS3 owners will be enjoying rumble, waggle, free online, and HD movie playback in one neat package. Don't even make me mention the games releasing next year!
Myke @ Sep 19th 2007 11:58PM
I AGREE!
mike @ Sep 20th 2007 1:15AM
Your right. They do get to enjoy all that. Unfortunetly there are no games to enjoy. please DO mention the games coming out next year because other then that little something planet game for PSN and haze (which is coming to 360 after a short while) nothing interests me
Ken Seang @ Sep 20th 2007 1:33AM
Same goes for the whole Wii being two gamecube that are duct tape together too! Joystiq can't seem to let that go...
Mr. P @ Sep 20th 2007 1:50AM
No games to enjoy, Mike? So what do you with your 360 when it red rings? IMAGINE you're playing games?
Here's a little list of games I'll be personally playing on PS3 next year (this isn't a full list, mind you--just my own to-buy list):
- Gran Turismo 5
- Metal Gear Solid 4
- Final Fantasy 13
- Devil May Cry 4
- Grand Theft Auto 4
- Soul Calibur 4
- Tekken 6
- Silent Hill 5
And the best part is I don't have to worry about having the console die on me and losing a month of my XBL subscription (which I have with Xbox 360...5 times now).
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 20th 2007 2:10AM
lol, the only game i want from that list is gta4, which happens to be multiplatform :)
Gareth @ Sep 20th 2007 6:18AM
Notice how each one of those is the sequel of a sequel of a sequel, lol! Not to mention that nearly all of them are multi-platform or have better equivalents on the 360 (VF5, Forza).
Sony loses even more respect for not just coming out and saying "ok ok, all that stuff about rumble not being possible was bullshit, and when we said it was last-gen we were just trying to cover our arse. now that we've settled the lawsuit that was bitch-slapping us crazy, we have added rumble and will now promote it as The Next Best Thing(TM)" - as that's exactly the case.
I still can't see any reason to own a PS3 though unfortunately for Sony.
And why would you want to wait til next year to get rumble on a PS3 when you can get a cheaper, better console right now that already has it? =S
vinny @ Sep 20th 2007 9:35AM
@Gareth, i couldn't have said it any better
Slaziman @ Sep 20th 2007 9:59AM
Jesus Mr. P, do you have something against games that haven't gotten to their fourth title yet?
The only thing older than "but I thought rumble was lastgen, LOL" is RRoD jokes.
ill trooper @ Sep 20th 2007 10:15AM
Yeah, but 'RRoD' isn't a JOKE, it's real, unfortunately.
Slaziman @ Sep 20th 2007 12:00PM
It's stupid, you can get it repaired for free, that's like keeping on whining about snapping Wii Straps. Making digs against it is -.-'
maverick_saturn_626 @ Sep 19th 2007 11:46PM
Good, bout time too, I'm going bed YAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNN
ackmondual @ Sep 19th 2007 11:54PM
about high damn time.
Things are looking up for Sony. If they can manage to NOT screw up this chance as well, that oughtta get M$ to counter and raise the stakes yet a few more nothces
Wilhelm @ Sep 19th 2007 11:55PM
Spring 08? Wow...
Mr. P @ Sep 19th 2007 11:55PM
Fuck yes, Heavenly Sword, DMC4, and MGS4! Still needs GT5 Prologue and NG Sigma, though.
Gillman @ Sep 19th 2007 11:56PM
Nothing about virtual fighter 5. Guessing that they have kind of moved on to worrying about the 360 at this point though.
NgC @ Sep 19th 2007 11:58PM
/sarcasm: Wow! It rumbles just like a real PS2 controller! Holy crap I'm totally gonna buy a PS3 now just for this!
Bleu @ Sep 20th 2007 1:23AM
I love it just another great thing sony is doing and there is mooooooore to come.
Yup @ Sep 20th 2007 12:10AM
The rumble could go with or without. Hey at least when your not using it battery life is longer. It's no biggie, and I don't think it anyone will miss the vibrating affect in your hands.
Zach Isso @ Sep 20th 2007 12:09AM
Congratulations to Sony for announcing some previously not-known-to-exist titles.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 20th 2007 12:15AM
Like what, Wardevil? That was announced back in 2005.
Zaphod Beeblebrox @ Sep 20th 2007 12:16AM
Nevermind, I see some I do not recognize. My bad.
Autopsy15 @ Sep 20th 2007 12:16AM
Brrrrrrr. Thats the sound of me playing Warhawk with rumble.
Jerah Tulloch @ Sep 20th 2007 12:20AM
why not same time all three places
ShortFuse @ Sep 20th 2007 12:19AM
Spring 2008!? WTF? It's a damn controller. Why would Japan get it 4-5 months earlier. Since when are controllers region locked? This was a stupid move. They shouldn't have announced it. I was expecting them to put it in the $400 item. I guess there is 0% chance for me getting a PS3 in the next 4-5 months.
ill trooper @ Sep 20th 2007 10:33AM
"Since when are controllers region locked?"
I don't know where you're getting this idea from, other than from the different release dates for different countries... I don't think Sony would do that - even the games are region-free.
Let us know where you're seeing that info if I'm wrong, because I plan on walking over to my local import video game shop the moment these hit Japan to buy one.
ShortFuse @ Sep 23rd 2007 11:05PM
I'm not saying they're locked (that's be stupid) but it's like they're treating as such restricting it to a certain region first. I can understand a couple of weeks, at most a month for a controller but not 4 months.
It was bad wording. I should have said region restrictions (regionlock being a restriction). It's not like they're translating the buttons or changing any of the voltage (USB is 5V, always). I'm just saying they're treating as if it was region locked.
Negativecool @ Sep 20th 2007 12:33AM
I haven't read any of the comments for fear of needless fanboy bickering in what is just good news for gamers. I just needed to post my thoughts to get them out of my head.
I have to say, without sounding like I'm being paid, that I am VERY pleased and (oddly) very relieved to see that Sony has finally brought rumble back. Actually, I'm more relieved than pleased. I am relieved because in my opinion, I think the lack of rumble is one of the things holding the PS3 back...at least for me it was anyway.
I can't tell you how pissed I was when I found out that rumble wouldn't be in the "next gen" Sony console...To be the only console on the market without such a standard function seemed like an embarrassment to me. I wasn't going to buy a PS3 without this capability...
Now here it is, Sony has worked it out, and I am happy. Thank God! An odd sense of peace and ease has suddenly settled over me now, I can’t explain why. I think maybe it’s the comforting thought that maybe….just maybe, Sony is actually trying to compete this generation instead of being self-righteous arrogant jackasses telling people what they want.
Now...
Game on.
Obie @ Sep 20th 2007 12:55AM
Soo does that mean the controller will rumble everytime you crash into walls in Lair?
duma @ Sep 20th 2007 12:58AM
what no Madden?
as far as waiting for spring 08, sony you can kiss my *ss i will be importing this.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 20th 2007 1:02AM
i thought rumble was last-gen?
ill trooper @ Sep 20th 2007 10:25AM
No, you believed the hype. Sorry, you were misinformed.
Digi Smalls @ Sep 21st 2007 1:02PM
yeah he was, but by who?
Brian Fantana @ Sep 20th 2007 1:45AM
But I thought with the super advanced tech. of the six-axis they couldnt have rumble. No, for real thats good news if you have a PS3.
Ben Hobbs @ Sep 20th 2007 2:14AM
This is part of whats wrong with the PS3, tacking things on later is always a bad sign, the company throwing as much shit at the wall and hoping some of it will stick.
Seriously they should spend some time trying to make the PS3 perform better as a games machine and buying/developing some decent games.
The PS3 constantly has this aura of "It will be a bit better later".
Shagittarius @ Sep 20th 2007 11:30AM
The Wii promises the same thing only I know there no aura of it will be better later. Its gonna suck all the time.
Rev Cletus @ Sep 20th 2007 2:57PM
I really don't have much throw for the urine matches, but I do hope this rumbley thing works for Amplitude and Frequency. I guess all PS2 games, really. Would really put some buzz back in my Katamari.
OrganicShadow @ Sep 20th 2007 10:44AM
I think that's pretty much what we can AT LEAST be thankful for out of the whole DS3 thing. I hate the DS name, I hate that they didn't change the design any, and I hate that I have to wait till Spring 08. If it turns out that it doesn't have TouchSense rumble in it then I will be even more disappointed, but at least I can play MGS/MGS2 and around 60 of my other PS2 games and now that my controller will shake.
What sucks about the TouchSense thing is, if they don't include TouchSense in the DS3, then no game developers are going to pay for TS SDK's to make their games compatible, because only 3rd party controllers will have TouchSense.
Why won't they support these 3rd party controllers? Because I have YET to see a Bluetooth, tilt-enabled, rumbling PS3 controller from a third party company. Until a third party can come up with something that has the same standard features as the standard PS3 controller, then I, as well as a lot of other people, aren't going to buy anything other than SIXAXIS.
Thus, if Sony or someone else doesn't support TouchSense in their default standard controllers- TouchSense, a nextgen rumble that we SHOULD all have from the get go, will have to wait until NEXT gen.
scratch @ Sep 20th 2007 6:33PM
hey cletus, does your amplitude play smoothly? I was testing out my ps2 games on my ps3 and i was disappointed to find that amplitude had a tendency to skip every minute or so, a big problem in a rythm game. to the ps3's credit, it seemed to play all the others fine. im trying to decide whether to hang onto my old ps2+multitap+4controllers just to play amplitude (probably my favorite ps2 game). so i was curious if you'd noticed anything in your amplitude on ps3 playing?
stockdog101 @ Sep 20th 2007 3:05AM
to "blooh (CDF - Ass Ring)"
"i thought rumble was last-gen?"
actually it was last two gens nintendo 64 had rumble pak add-on, and also 3D graphics were last-gen too, should we not care about that either?
Almack64 (NOF - Ultrazord) @ Sep 20th 2007 2:44PM
The only reason the "I thought it was last gen" comments are at all funny is because SONY THEMSELVES made it. It's not like GC's Duct tapped or RRoD which was said by others and spread across the internet. SONY THEMSELEVES put their foot in their mouth and made that statement. Hence for them to eventually go on and use it and pretend they didn't make that ridiculous comment is kind of funny. But maybe you missed this fact, if so you are excused.
Burnt Meatloaf @ Sep 20th 2007 5:02AM
For such a minor feature, Sony sure has gotten a beating in the PR department. Not like they have any other PR issues, of course.
It's definitely a good move to patch older games to take advantage of rumble. Sometimes, patching isn't such a bad thing.
Rob @ Sep 20th 2007 8:32AM
The negatives of patching far, far outweigh the positives in my book.
blinguskahn @ Sep 20th 2007 5:00PM
Where does it say the controllers will be region locked?
Rob @ Sep 20th 2007 8:31AM
So what does it mean when Lair and flow aren't compatible titles? No rumble at all? You have to plug in the old controller?
vinny @ Sep 20th 2007 9:37AM
i highly doubt dev's will spend the time to update their old games to support rumble, whats the point if no one bought the games in the first place, the only game i can see getting rumble is warhawk
ill trooper @ Sep 20th 2007 10:25AM
I'm sure many of these games will work as though it was there all along.
I always assumed it was something Sony had told the developers to be ready for in case the legal issues were cleared up, and therefore I figured the devs had likely added the support into the games, with the possibility that it would never be used.
Willie @ Sep 20th 2007 10:47AM
MOTORSTORM with RUMBLE!!!! I hope Evolution Studios makes it happen.
