Metal Gear Solid 4 will include a small taste of the
Metal Gear Online experience through an included "Starter Pack" mode, Hideo Kojima revealed at the Konami press conference today in Tokyo. A new trailer highlighted the game's sharp graphics, which nearly match the visual fidelity of its single-player counterpart. In addition, fun gameplay bits, such as the ability to roll down enemies in a barrel were shown. The trailer ended with a soldier launching himself helplessly into the air by using a massive cannon device (a
Halo nod, perhaps?).
Both
Metal Gear Solid and
Metal Gear Online will be playable at TGS. Stay tuned for more.

5.99 for fully functional multiplayer pack
Sam @ Sep 19th 2007 6:10AM
"(a Halo nod, perhaps?)."
Lol. Yes because halo invented player launching devices in multiplayer games.
I hear halo also invented the shotgun and sliced bread.
/sigh.
Poisoned Al @ Sep 19th 2007 7:17AM
I thought Nintendo invented sliced bread.
Joshua @ Sep 19th 2007 7:37AM
Yeah, and I think Atari did the shotgun thing.
Jim Halpert DM @ Sep 19th 2007 7:23AM
I'm confused. Is the online component to Metal Gear Solid 4 sold separately? No, can't be. That doesn't make since. Or maybe they're just totally different games. Like one game for online, and one game for single player. No that can't be it, if that were it, why would Splinter Cell come packed as one game. This is real confusing.*
*Warning!-Message not intended for those who are unable to recognize sarcasm.
phattie @ Sep 19th 2007 7:23AM
Looks like MGS|O is going to be an expansion pack for MGS4 rather than a standalone game ala Warhawk.
TRUTH @ Sep 19th 2007 7:53AM
So you buy a $60 game & there only giving you a starter pack!! wtf So you have to buy the online game separately... Great Job!!! NOT
Jake @ Sep 19th 2007 8:04AM
Probably wouldn't fit on the disc. Sony should have delayed the PS3 a couple of years and used a 200Gb 8 layer disc once the tech became available.
Seriously though, I think Konami may have found a way to release this big budget title to a less than stellar userbase while still earning a profit. I am very curious how much they tax you for the online component and whether or not it is shooterish or Splinter Cellish or something different.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 8:27AM
Good thing Halo 3 comes with online included
sicsided @ Sep 19th 2007 8:33AM
yep, and it doesn't break the mold either!
JKPierce @ Sep 19th 2007 8:44AM
Hey, two completely different games with completely different development cycles. Awesome comparison.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 8:54AM
Was I comparing anything? I'm just happy Halo 3 and Halo 3 Online come on one single DVD-9 disk
JKPierce @ Sep 19th 2007 9:30AM
Oh.
That's even dumber.
riggs @ Sep 19th 2007 10:23AM
^^rofl.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 10:35AM
I don't know about you, but I'll probably play more Halo 3 Online than the whole MGS4 single player. Yet they cost the same, and Halo 3 Online comes with a campaign mode.
CaptNink @ Sep 19th 2007 10:53AM
Please stop now. You embarrass us all.
Doc @ Sep 19th 2007 8:45AM
what? why split it up and make us pay twice?? oh i guess it can't all fit on blu-ray right?.....
Jake @ Sep 19th 2007 10:45AM
Bluray sounds wonderful in concept until a developer can't even afford to give you a game for $60 and has to split it into two games and charge for each.
Either way, it is still probably all worth the money. MGS is some good stuff.
ohms @ Sep 19th 2007 9:07AM
I guess by releasing it as a seperate game, it's not tied to ps3 as an exclusive like MGS4 is, so don't be surprised to see MGO on the 360.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 9:08AM
OMG, I never thought of that possibility
:O
Konny @ Sep 19th 2007 9:08AM
Are 360 owners forgetting that they pay $60 a year for the privilege of playing online multiplayer... without that Gold account, Halo3 would just be a generic SciFi shooter.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 9:13AM
Ain't that 50$?
And looking at PSN, it's well worth it.
vinny @ Sep 19th 2007 9:28AM
oh common, you're not even trying anymore Konny, i know you can troll better then that
TRUTH @ Sep 19th 2007 9:33AM
WOW for a SUPERIOR Online Service, No Problem!
ill trooper @ Sep 19th 2007 9:52AM
LIVE (Gold) shouldn't cost money, there's too much advertising and plenty of purchasable items that can carry the costs. There are still multitudes of annoying kids on LIVE despite the $50 cost, so that's not a valid reason either. The pay model exists because we have shown we will pay - it has been worth it, but I'm thinking Microsoft will eliminate the fee by the end of next year.
After playing Warhawk for a few weeks, I see that PS3/Live function-parity could be only a few software updates away if Sony stays on the case. I'm not saying it's happening, I'm only saying it's POSSIBLE.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 10:12AM
for the hours of fun that xbox live provides, it's well worth the 50$
all the hours I've played gears of war online on my friends 360 already justified the 50$
konajinx @ Sep 19th 2007 12:53PM
Wow...people are still dragging out this old "argument"? Give it a rest already. And as far as I know, you can still get a Live subscription card for $39 at Circuit City. It still beats whatever price Sony decides to dish out currently for whatever ridiculous new version of the PS3 they magically pull out of their butts. But have fun while you keep waiting for the games. I'm sure MGS4 will wind up being a disappointment like all the other supposed sure things released so far on the PS3.
megaStryke @ Sep 19th 2007 9:32AM
Remember the online mode in MGS3: Subsistence? Remember how it got shut down after only a year?
herman @ Sep 19th 2007 9:34AM
Maybe the trolls are the people that mention Halo 3 on every PS3 article. Let's get more info on the game before we jump to conclusions.
HB96st @ Sep 19th 2007 9:36AM
Because it was Wack.
HB96st @ Sep 19th 2007 9:42AM
Honestly though, I don't even care about MGS.. It could come to the Wii in some shape or form and I wouldn't be shocked. If I wanted a game chock full 'o cut scenes, I'd watch a MOVIE.
Really, MGS has been taking a dive because of that.. Splinter cell is a much better game. Granted, there are way cooler characters in MGS, but you get more immersed in Splinter Cell and its movements are more Fluid than MGS "move-like-my-hips-broke-because-i'm-using-the-d-pad"
Real talk, if it were to come to the 360 I still wouldn't buy it.. My money is on Splinter Cell.
megaStryke @ Sep 19th 2007 9:44AM
Who uses the D-pad?
NeoAngelicPrince @ Sep 19th 2007 9:44AM
This is to my fellow 360 owners/fanboys...
What do you expect when probably over 50% of the game is going to be CGI animations/movies. Despite all this propping of bluray and the more space issue by ps3fanboy its pretty clear that theres just not much of an advantage if they're not going to put Online and the Game together.
I can't wait for Halo 3...the anticipation is just ridiculous. And the commercials are really starting to get to me.
Noshino @ Sep 19th 2007 9:56AM
mmm...Reasons:
1st, Different Developers
2nd, Different Gameplay
3rd, ...The game is supposed to be huge (READ: SUPPOSED TO)
Next time do a little more research (as for Reason 1 and 2), it makes you look dumb =)
ill trooper @ Sep 19th 2007 9:57AM
Take it outside
I plan on playing Halo AND MGS4, get your head around that, fanboy pinhead
Jake @ Sep 19th 2007 10:54AM
I am a 360 fanboy in the sense that I much, much prefer the current games on that system as well as this Fall's coming games. It really isn't even remotely close.
Come next year, though, my 360 fanboy ass will buy a $400 PS3 and MGS4 will be one of the biggest reasons. The games are always pretty good.
With that said, it really annoys me that they are charging extra for online. It had damn well better be a full online experience much different from the single player such that it justifies the extra cost.
And yes, MGS games use too many damn cutscenes. But they are pretty good so I'm down with it.
geek13 @ Sep 19th 2007 10:22AM
HAHA Halo noobs make me laugh. Hey go back to your subpar FPS and bunny hop till you die. PC FTW!!!
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 10:44AM
Yeah, having just 3 genres (MMORPG, RTS, FPS), having to pay more to get to the graphics level of the consoles ROX
What were the last 2 good games to come out for the PC? World in Conflict and Bioshock.
And they're both on 360.
Shagittarius @ Sep 19th 2007 2:02PM
and both cheaper and have better graphics on the PC.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 2:48PM
But take a twice as expensive rig to run.
HB96st @ Sep 19th 2007 10:36AM
Y'know, its funny.. Spending Thousands to hook up your "PC" to play games. You don't find anything wrong with that? I remember when Half Life2 first came out and how many people had to "Upgrade" their PC's... LOL, wow.
Buying all 3 consoles with games and controllers for the cost of upgrading your PC to play one game...
-PricelessFTW.
Jake @ Sep 19th 2007 10:49AM
Just think of the 360 and Live as the surf n' turf of consoles. You pay more, but you get more and a better quality experience. Unfortunately, the meat can sometimes be too red in the middle and you have to send it back.
blooh (CDF - Ass Ring) @ Sep 19th 2007 11:12AM
lol
JJ @ Sep 19th 2007 11:07AM
i thought MGS4 and MG0 were both different games... i thought that was common knowledge as they have em both announced. I really dont see the problem... nor the reason for halo references.
geek13 @ Sep 19th 2007 11:27AM
Actually I did own all systems. That was till my 360 died on me for the second time. I will no longer support M$ and it's poor quality product. I don't see why ppl insist on going back for more after they get punched in the face by M$. Surely it's not the games cause I never purchased one game for my 360. I don't like halo and GOW will look much better on my PC. Didn't want to ruin the the game by play a half finished product.
chispito @ Sep 19th 2007 11:40AM
There is no good reason why any PS3 game should require more than one disc. If the developers still can't fit one game on one disc, what is the point of Blu-Ray, exactly?
Especially since multiplayer should contain zero prerendered cutscenes, and a minimal quantity of uniqque textures.
HB96st @ Sep 19th 2007 12:06PM
"I will no longer support M$ and it's poor quality product. I don't see why ppl insist on going back for more after they get punched in the face by M$."
So instead of just "returning" your system back like any other person with a brain, you just give up and jump ship...
Sounds like that Sony propaganda.
I cant see why suckas insist on going back for more after they get punched in the face by Sony is more like it.
You sound stupid.. go Punch yourself... I bet you'll do it if sony asked you too, huh??
geek13 @ Sep 19th 2007 12:12PM
Why would I want to get another broken system? Plus like I said before i'm more of a PC gamer so stop your xbot trolling and go play your 360 like all the other NOOBS.
Slaziman @ Sep 19th 2007 1:08PM
Jesus your ignorance is outstanding.
They spent 1 billion to fix RRoD, it was in the news, WHAT do you think it's being spent on? Putting new heat sinks and fixing the problem.
But sure keep your broken 360 like a noob instead of getting a fully functional one and at least E-bay it if you hate it so much.
Your post REEKS of false accusations with the intention of spreading FUD, or you are a retard. It is much better keeping a broken 360 around the house than sending it in for repairs for free if we are to believe your bullshit.
As I said, PC gaming ain't got SHIT on console gaming, everybody knows this. Gears already looks awesome on the 360, if you think that seeing it like that is ruining the game then you are just stupid. List me 3 good recent PC exclusives that aren't shooters, MMORPG or RTS, and I'll give you a big fat cookie.
konajinx @ Sep 19th 2007 1:02PM
How is someone who plays on a console rather than a PC a noob? By your logic, people who played the Atari 2600 years ago were noobs because they weren't playing shitty text games on a PC that no one even owned at the time.
Get yourself a new set of insults, geeky. No one thinks your 3.5" floppy is interesting.
